There are three beautifully furnished beach apartments.

Two of the apartments sleep 5 persons and one sleeps 8 persons. Each apartment is equipped with a fully fitted kitchen with all amenities and air-conditioning in all rooms. There is cable TV in all the apartments as well as internet access.

There is secure parking on the compound and there is a pool 40ft by 20ft long. There are also BBQ facilities available for all guests.

Sea Horse sleeps up to 8 people. It is a two bedroom air-conditioned apartment with Front Porch. It has a fully fitted kitchen with all amenities. It has cable TV and internet access.
About Leah Pirtheesingh (Director)

Monica and Harry built their family home in 1975, for themselves and their 3 children. It was back in the oil boom days of Trinidad and Harry being a manager was offered this sought after plot at a very attractive price.

In the late 1990's they decided that the home was too big for just them and so decided to turn their home into rentable apartments re-furbishing the attic for themselves, now known as the penthouse.

Together they suffered the refurbishment still living on the premises, as walls were knocked down, roofs were extended, bats flew through their home and rain wet them in their beds.

In the end the results have been this magnificent trio of apartments in the style of their own home.

Harry and Monica add to the attraction of The Sand Dollar. Guests often refer to them as friends and return bearing gifts to this delightful couple.

Why Leah Pirtheesingh (Director) chose Trinidad

There are many rentable properties in Mayaro, however very few that have the owners living on the premises. Mayaro has a reputation as beachfront property, exposed to sea blast and uncared for. With this reputation guests often abuse rentals , by squeezing in extra people, pilfering equipment and leaving the properties in an undesirable state.

Here at Harry and Monica's place there is a standard that is clearly upheld and despite the privacy that all guests are offered there is still the sense of visiting this couples home and therefore the apartments tend to be looked after and cared for.

What makes this apartment unique

Sand Sucker Rd is still under the watchful eyes of BPTT guards. They regularly do night patrols of this road and The Sand Dollar is the first property that they come to. The guards are therefore very protective of this property as well.

Sand Dollar apartments is located 2 minutes walk from the Atlantic coast. It's the longest beach in Trinidad, 13 miles of undisturbed beach, lined by coconut trees. The beach is scattered with sand dollars, chip chip, donkey eyes, shells, sea birds. This tends to be a very quiet stretch of beach largely undisturbed unless its a public holiday. The most beautiful time to be on the beach is just before sunrise. Always a breathtaking experience watching the sunrise across the ocean. Once its low tide the early morning finds many walkers, joggers, swimmers making use of the cooler temperatures.

Mid mornings often find fishermen coming in on their pirogues

with their nets full. Visitors are often invited to help pull the full nets in. They are often generously rewarded with a fish of their choice from the catch. Often a spectacular sight are the large black corbeaux , scavenger birds that feast on the carrion.

Mayaro is a great place for on shore fishing, fishing off the sand. A great place to bring a little cooler of drinks and a wide brimmed hat in order to sample the fruit de mer.

There are a few fresh water rivers on the stretch of beach that meet the sea during high tide. Its quite refreshing to wash the salt off on occasions.

About 6 miles , just past Mayaro junction you meet the Nariva river. Boat tours are offered for the interested visitor. There are manatees in this river as well as cayman, small alligators.

Mayaro is famous for its Saturday market. Vendors come from neighbouring villages to sell their goods. It's a very colourful, musical affair. However be prepared to start early; 5:30am because most vendors start packing up around 9:30am.

There are a variety of eating places available in Mayaro. There are the staple fast foods as well as some unique sit down restaurants. The Ranch, located just near the village is a great bar /restaurant with good music and a friendly atmosphere. There are also a few tasty roti places for lunch, a very filling Indian dish. For the less adventurous weekends bring out roadside BBQ's.

Mayaro is the perfect location to relax, de-stress and get away from it all.
