Car: necessary

The house is 1 mile from Londonderry shopping, 20 minutes from Manchester, and 6 miles from Weston. Also 20 minutes from Stratton and Okemo ski areas, 10 minutes from Bromley Mountain and the summer Fun Zone, and 5 minutes from Magic Mtn. The 70 acre property includes 12 km of private trails for summer and fall use and ski passes for each house guest for the 35 km cross country ski trail system during the winter.

In the summer and fall, guests can fill their days without ever leaving the house's grounds -- playing in the large yard, walking the ski trails, flying kites in the meadow, or watching the sun set over the Green Mountains from the raised deck in the meadow. And of course, walking, running, or biking over the private trail network. The Appalachian Trail and Long Trail are nearby, Lowell Lake State Park is 1/2 mile away for canoeing, and there many great options for kayaking and fishing. Miles of Vermont back roads are great for long bike rides, runs, or drives.

Other Activities: Cross country skiing & snowshoeing

A Warm Comfortable Home Away from Home

My family and I just spent the week between Christmas and New Years at the Viking Nordic Guest House and had a fantastic time. We were a group of eight - 6 adults and 2 children, ages 6 and 4. The sleeping arrangements were comfortable and clean, as was the bathroom setup - all on the second floor. The first floor was a wonderfully welcoming and comfortable living area, including a brick fireplace in the living room and a TV with DVD player and VCR in the sitting area (all with very comfy seating), a beautiful dining room large enough to accomodate dinner guests one evening for a total of 11 at the table (actually an additional dropleaf table would have allowed us to entertain even more) and a kitchen that gave us more than enough space and equipment to enjoy cooking most of our meals comfortably at home. The temperature outside varied from high 40's to low single digits and we were always warm and cozy in our guest house. We chose not to use the woodburning stove in the dining room because of the children, but found that we did not need it to stay comfortable.

Most of our group skied daily at nearby Bromley (great for a family group like ours) and some of us (me!) enjoyed shopping in Manchester and the nearby Vermont Country Store. There are several convenient shops on the main street in Londonderry, where we did almost all of our food shopping. The area is crowded with wonderful restaurants as well.

Dana and Malcolm were wonderful and helpful hosts. All in all, as a winter vacation destination, I highly recommend the Viking Nordic Guest House.

The Viking Guest House

We have stayed at the Viking guest house on multiple occasions during the fall and winter. Have used the house for family holiday gatherings, multi family ski vacations and deer camp. The guest house has all that is needed for a comfortable stay. Excellent cross country skiing right out the door. Fully applianced kitchen, washer and dryer, fireplace, wood stove and cable TV. There is also a library of books and board games. Great place to let the kids out to run around the expansive manicured grounds or to play in the snow in the winter. Great view of Stratton Mountain right out the front door. What ever the season this is a great jumping off point for all activities. Skiing, hiking, hunting and fishing, shopping, theater or just to hide out and relax. Looking forward to our next stay. Love the place!

The place is very pretty, and the surroundings are lovely.
One bed of the three queen-sized listed, is not really that, it's a trundle that pushes together, and it is not comfortable. If you are planning to use it, bring an egg-crate foam pad. Also, there is a mattress in one other room that is reportedly needing replacement. There is not a blender, if you want one, nor is there a gas grill. Ultimately those two things did not matter to us, since the lawns are really nice for playing things like badminton and bocce ball, and our primary objective was to be secluded.

Thank you to the owners.
