The Heart of Our Stay

Susanna&Duane Silver Spring, MD
Review Submitted: October 9, 2009 Date of Stay: October 2009
Our vacation in the Hamptons would not be the same had we not stayed at this quaint and beautiful cottage. Perfectly blending historic tradition and modern convenience, the newly renovated kitchen matches the quaintness of the rest of the house with its wood beams from centuries old pioneer ships. Charming decorations lightly scattered throughout the house enhance the feeling of comfort and home. It is obvious that the owners not only take great care of the property but truly love the home. They were extremely helpful and accessible (although every detail is already provided for you in the red binder. It contains everything you need to fully enjoy and relax at the cottage and surrounding areas.) The location is also perfect. With its small town feel, we could easily navigate to all the area has to offer: bike rides, ocean walks, shopping, food, and village touring. At the same time, we could return to our own private retreat and either enjoy the fireplace or the gardens in the yard. This cottage immediately became the heart of our stay and we can’t wait to return!

Tranquil retreat

Haleiwa Portland, Maine, USA
Review Submitted: May 22, 2009 Date of Stay: November 2008
We were fortunate to spend our wedding anniversary at this tranquil retreat. The cottage is well-situated and appointed. We spent rainy days exploring the town and enjoying a movie at the local movie house, biked to the beach on sunny afternoons, cooked our meals in the airy kitchen (decorated in calming gray and white tones), and retreated to the lush garden in the evening. It was a magical visit, and we plan to return again soon. The owners are congenial and clearly take pride in the cottage-- it was a pleasure working with them. The cottage, all told, provided a delightful respite from the hustle and bustle of city life, and we couldn't recommend it more highly. Enjoy!

Bucolic Retreat

Review Submitted: April 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
This is a unique property made with the wood from an old ship giving it a charm and beauty lacking in the newer houses of the Hamptons. The backyard is populated with mature trees, shrubs and flowering plants and goes back quite a ways from the street. Relaxing in the garden is an unexpected escape from the stresses of urban life. I will return again.

Nice house, but unfortunately noisy

Review Submitted: March 31, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2008
The description is consistent with the reality: very nice house and garden. The owner was very helpful and we established a good contact - which is important when you are living in Europe and renting in the US.
House equipment, furniture was comfortable and the distance to the beaches ok (we fortunately could use the bikes in the house, because parking on the beach is impossible to obtain in E.H. when you rent for a couple of weeks).
The only - important negative - point of our stay was the noisy road in front of the house which is not mentioned in the description.

Owner's Response: In response to one renter's comment about proximity to the road, at no time during the tenancy, which this reviewer extended, were any complaints raised. Indeed, none of the 50 or so tenants we have had since acquiring the house have complained about road noise. Perhaps the reviewer, a European vacationer, had different expectations about the Hamptons. The house is on a road which heads towards Three Mile Harbor with many vacation homes along it. But it is well set back and shielded by extensive landscaping. We, and our tenants, regularly enjoy the "outdoor living room" and "outdoor dining room" sequestered in the middle of the property. Because of the home's excellent location--proximate to the Village and within walking distance of the best farmer’s market and some of the best restaurants in East Hampton -- a certain amount of traffic is unavoidable. Yes, there is less traffic and noise "south of the highway," but rents for a comparable home there would be several multiples of the rates we offer. Likewise, there is less noise in more remote locations, for example, in Clearwater Beach or Settlors’ Landing, but many regard these locations as less accessible to East Hampton life and the ocean and therefore less desirable.
