Nice house, but unfortunately noisy
Review Submitted: March 31, 2009

The description is consistent with the reality: very nice house and garden. The owner was very helpful and we established a good contact - which is important when you are living in Europe and renting in the US.
House equipment, furniture was comfortable and the distance to the beaches ok (we fortunately could use the bikes in the house, because parking on the beach is impossible to obtain in E.H. when you rent for a couple of weeks).
The only - important negative - point of our stay was the noisy road in front of the house which is not mentioned in the description.

Owner's Response: In response to one renter's comment about proximity to the road, at no time during the tenancy, which this reviewer extended, were any complaints raised. Indeed, none of the 50 or so tenants we have had since acquiring the house have complained about road noise. Perhaps the reviewer, a European vacationer, had different expectations about the Hamptons. The house is on a road which heads towards Three Mile Harbor with many vacation homes along it. But it is well set back and shielded by extensive landscaping. We, and our tenants, regularly enjoy the "outdoor living room" and "outdoor dining room" sequestered in the middle of the property. Because of the home's excellent location--proximate to the Village and within walking distance of the best farmer’s market and some of the best restaurants in East Hampton -- a certain amount of traffic is unavoidable. Yes, there is less traffic and noise "south of the highway," but rents for a comparable home there would be several multiples of the rates we offer. Likewise, there is less noise in more remote locations, for example, in Clearwater Beach or Settlors’ Landing, but many regard these locations as less accessible to East Hampton life and the ocean and therefore less desirable.
