Gary's family picked family oriented York for their vacation spot from their home in Keene. I'm Gary's wife, Marion, I'm from Bermuda, and I'm a flight attendant. I love the cottage as our whole family does! We find York so interesting and kept the old fashioned family oriented way, it is fascinating and charming. A great place to vacation year after year. We love it there. we just live 30 minutes away.
The Owner purchased this cottage in 1972
Family friendly, close to beaches. Several miles from Highway, but easy to find. York is a year round town, there are reasons to come here any time of the year!
This family friendly area, suitable for all ages. The beach, town, playground. Areas to explore, the White Mountains a few hours beautiful drive away. Shopping outlets in Kittery and Freeport. The Maine coast with spectacular scenery. Fall Foliage and the coast line are a wonderful combination for the walker, painter, photographer, or just want to see what it's all about!
We were able to explore many sand beaches (and enjoy picnics prepared in the nicely appointed kitchen at the cottage), light houses, and historic landmarks, including military forts, within easy driving distance of Memories Cottage every day AND still have time to enjoy the scenes of surfers, boogie boarders, and joyous dogs and their humans romping on the beach at Long Sands. Sunsets at near by Nubble Light were the perfect way to end the days before returning to the comfort of the cottage. There were sufficient reasonably priced restaurants nearby when we wanted to eat out and a market that carried a "fish chowder" selection of fish the night I wanted to make my annual Maine chowder and corn muffins. The cottage neighborhood was neat, quiet, and respectful of the privacy of all. Memories cottage provided us with more than we expected in the way of amenity's and comfort and made our 30th year of traveling and staying on the Maine coast a most excellent memory
Hear the sound of the buoy clanging and the waves rolling in, smell the salt air mingled with wonderful fragrant flowers while you relax in this charming, comfortable cottage. The owners, Marion and Gary, make your stay memorable with their thoughtful touches ... beach chairs, boogie boards, beach umbrella, a small grill and a readily appointed kitchen help to make your stay enjoyable. You are minutes away from downtown York Beach with it's quaint shopping, historic Goldenrod Kisses restaurant/candy shop and Short Sands Beach. Travel just a tad further south and you come upon the lovely Cape Neddick lighthouse, beautiful Long Sands Beach and then the historic area of York, Maine. Travel a bit further down picturesque Route 1A and you reach terrific outlet shopping in Kittery, Maine and then more fabulous history and shopping in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. If you travel North on Route 1A instead, you will pass through Ogonquit and Wells before reaching gorgeous Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, Maine where shopping and restaurants abound, but don't stop there ... travel along the coast through Old Orchard Beach, Scarborough and then see the historic Portland Head lighthouse in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Go a bit further and spend the day in Portland, Maine for more shopping, history and restaurants. This cottage is close to so much, yet still a quiet and peaceful retreat from the world. We have stayed here often over the past 10+ years and have loved every visit. The only downside is having to leave!
This cottage is very comfortable, warm, and inviting. We only stayed a couple of days but felt right at home and hope to return next year as well for a longer stay. When we arrived, the cottage was immaculate and we were greeted with a personal note from the owners. It is located in a quiet and quaint residential neighborhood yet just close enough to all of the local attractions. A perfect combination for a beach vacation!
We stayed a week and enjoyed every second! The owners, Marion and Gary were gracious and caring and had completed some marvelous upgrades just before our arrival. My family felt as though we had been living here forever. the owners were just a phone call away and responded quickly when a smoke alarm battery failed. The property and cottage were immaculate and we would not hesitate to recommend to anyone..
