Farmhouse, 4 Bedrooms(1 or 2bd flat)+ Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps2-10)

Our small organic farm sits on a hill along Lucca’s beautiful northern countryside in the hamlet of Aquilea, with stunning views over the Valdottavo valley, the high peaks of the Apennines, and the National park in the distance. We produce our own olive oil, bake our own bread, make jams from our own fruit trees, prepare home-made yoghurt and classic Italian sauce from our own tomatoes, and grow a variety of vegetables.

Our solar powered and beautifully restored farmhouse has 3 comfortable, fully furnished apartments that will feel like home the moment you step inside! Each has its own entry on a lovely terrace where you can relax and enjoy outdoor dining, including pizza from a brick oven. At our above ground swimming pool, guests can enjoy sunbathing with an incredible view.

The 2-story apartment sleeps 4+2. The ground floor includes a kitchen/eating area and a sitting room with a sofa bed. On the second floor, there are two bedrooms (one has 2 twin beds, but can easily be transformed into a double bedroom) and a large bathroom with shower and a bathtub. A door next to the living room leads to an adjoining studio apartment that has a dinette kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom and sleeps 2. The two apartments can be combined into a large 3-bedroom and 2-bathroom apartment sleeping 6+2.

We have also an other nice,cosy Studio on the ground floor that is not adjoinable to the others and sleeps 2.

Since our 3 apartments can be rented separately as well as combined, updating is difficult and the calendar is not always correct. So, please send us your enquiry if you are interested in staying at our farmhouse.

Our love and respect for the environment can be seen in our organic farm with free-range animals, olive groves, a vegetable garden, and fruit trees. We use solar panels for hot water, to help with the wood boiler heating system, and to heat the swimming pool. We chose an above ground, moveable swimming pool because it has less environmental impact. We have two gazebos near the pool with photovoltaic roofs.

Here a car is really necessary. We have a special agreement with a car rental agency and can help you to rent a car with a cheap rate.

Driver service: If you don't feel like driving, the owner or one of her relatives can be your driver and guide: they can pick you up at the train station in Lucca or at the airport in Pisa or Florence, bring you to the farmhouse to get settled, help you to visit undiscovered surroundings and Tuscan beautiful towns.

Cooking lessons and catering : You can learn how to make classic Italian dishes in our large country kitchen and enjoy your meal in our lovely dining room. The owner speaks excellent English and is a talented cook. You can choose the menu with her, deciding what you would like for your delightful cooking lesson. If you do not feel like cooking, you can enjoy being served authentic Tuscan dinners for €25 per head.

Italian language lessons : We can organize Italian language lessons upon request.

About Donatella Sechi

Donatella Sechi purchased this farmhouse in 2006
Why Donatella Sechi chose Lucca

This had being been our dream, we wanted to move to live in the country, but not too far from Lucca where we were working.

In 1988, a few monthes after the birth of our oldest son, we bought this abandoned property and step by step we renovated the building and we started replacing olive trees. We moved here in 1994 and after a lot of works in 2005 we were ready with the rental units. So finally I could devote myself to this full-time job.

What makes this farmhouse unique

When you arrive you immediately fall in love with the view of the mountains and the peaceful feeling that the view gives you. You can think to be really ina remote area, out and far from stressful life, while in 7 minutes you can reach Ponte a Moriano, trhat is the closest little town, where you can find everything you can need.

Beautiful views and helpful hostess

My husband and our 2 young children stayed in the 2 bedroom apartment, which is very cozy and is true to the photos. It was very clean and had everything you need for a self catering unit. The views from the property are very beautiful. On the evening of our arrival Lella cooked us a great meal, and she was very helpful later on when I got an eye infection and couldn't find a doctor, she made phone calls for me and got me a prescription. It was convenient to have the shops at Ponte a Moriano close by and be able to visit Lucca easily, but many of the other places we visited took a drive of over 45 minutes, which was a bit inconvenient with our young children. And another small inconvenience was that there wasn't a stair gate at the bottom of the stairs, only at the top, so we constantly had to keep the little one from climbing them. Also, if you are going during rainy colder weather like we had, keep in mind that the you can't control the apartment's heating and for me it was a bit too cold. All in all it was a great place and I would recommend it.

Unforgetable Experience at Abbacca-la

Myself, my daughter, my husband and my friend went to Abbacca-la as part of a tour in Italy. We came from Assisi, which was beautiful, so were already a little disappointing to have to leave for our next destination. The experience proved to be well worth the trip!

Driving up to the Eco Farm was beautiful, and gave us the country experience we were hoping to get on our Italian tour. The apartment we stayed in was a two story, two bedroom apartment, with plenty of room for all of us. It was cozy and had everything we needed to feel at home.

The next day we took a short ride to Pisa, which wasn't as impressive as we would have hoped, and after talking to Lella more we probably would have better enjoyed exploring nearby Lucca or some Medieval towns in the area.

We returned to the Farm for a cooking lesson with Lella, which we had planned in advance and were really looking forward to. We selected to make three courses, bruschetta, home-made pasta, and gelato. The lesson was amazing! My 4 year old daughter had a great time, and Lella made it really fun for her while teaching us at the same time. We used fresh organic ingredients and olive oil produced right on the farm.

The meal was incredible, the pasta was fettuccine with a mushroom cream sauce, and I've never tasted pasta so good. The lesson was easy (at least it looked easy watching Lella) and fun and I can't wait to replicate it at home.

Lella speaks English very well and was able to give us a lot of information about Italy and the area. We wished we could have stayed longer, and want to return again in the future. I highly recommend a stay at Abbacca-la!

The farmhouse was exactly what we were hoping to find I Tuscany. Perfect location for sight seeing. We stayed in Italy for two weeks and we all agreed that our cooking lesson at the farmhouse was the best activity of the trip. We would most certainly stay here again.

Farmhouse Stay

My family and I stayed at the beautiful Farmhouse, Abbacca-La outside of Lucca. Our stay was wonderful and Lella was a wonderful host. My husband, myself and our three children had plenty of space in our lovely apartment. The apartment was very clean, comfortable and had a beautiful view of a Tuscany valley. The location of the farmhouse is not far from Lucca and was a great central location to other sites in the area - Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Cinque Terra and a lot of the charming wine villages. Our family also participated in a cooking class with Lella. The food was so good and our kids had a wonderful time! Our time in Italy was an experience that we will never forget and we are excited to return to Italy in the future!

wonderful place

This is a really well-equipped cottage in a stunning location. Views from the back windows are absolutely beautiful, and the front opens out onto a pretty and private courtyard - we ate and drank coffee/wine there all the time! Lella and Piero are brilliant hosts. Genuinely lovely people, and the cooking lessons are fantastic. It's real Italy, and the nearby town of Lucca is lovely. Very historic and attractive. We have been three times, and will be going again. It's quiet and beautiful. We love it.
