The Eixample suburb was built in the nineteenth century and is the birthplace of Catalan art movement 'Modernism' (similar to the French 'art nouveau') which Antoni Gaudí is the main reference.

The stunning works of Eixample as the Holy Family, the two famous houses of Gaudi (La Pedrera and Casa Batllo), the Apple of Discord, and the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau do very touristy area.

One of the main attractions of the Eixample is the Passeig de Gracia, a street famous for its luxury shops, similar to Fifth Avenue in New York.
