Situated within walking distance of the centre of Aix-en-Provence and on the edge of the Sainte Victoire National Park, the house has a beautifully landscaped mature garden of approx 1600m2, including an attractive salt-water swimming pool with electric cover. There is a north-facing terrace sheltered from the sun and lined with bamboo leading out from the kitchen (ideal for lunches on hot sunny days under the fig tree) as well as a south-facing terrace overlooking the swimming pool which is perfect for enjoying a glass of rosé in the evenings…..
The house is set over three floors:
Top floor: bedroom 1 and bedroom 2 and one bathroom.
Middle floor: main living area (kitchen, dining area, sitting area and large main hall), a large well-equipped utility room, WC, corridor leading to light and airy bedroom 3 with its large en-suite bathroom with walk in shower and full bath, and flat screen tv (all on opposite end to living area, so quiet).
Bottom floor: bedroom 4 with attractive en-suite bathroom and walk in shower.
The studio (bedroom 5) includes a fully equipped kitchen, bedroom area and en suite bathroom along with built in wardrobes and plenty of storage.
The main contemporary kitchen was installed in 2010 and has top-of-the-range Gaggenhau appliances (fully integrated coffee machine, steam oven, oven, American-style fridge and freezer). There are 4 bathrooms in total (3 of which en-suite), and one WC. The property is secure with an electric gate including intercom system, and parking within the grounds.
Mother of two small children. We lived in the house 2009/2010 when we fully renovated it with the intention of living long-term which is why we renovated to such a high quality (for example the Bulthaup kitchen), but unfortunately had to move back to the UK in 2010.
We love L'Acanthe because of its rare quality of being a beautiful house so close to the centre of Aix-en-Provence, but with such easy access to the Sainte-Victoire national park with all that it has to offer.
The house is situated within the neighbourhood of La Torse, at the end of a cul-de-sac located directly opposite the lovely “parc la Torse”. The centre of Aix-en-Provence is a 20 minute walk or short bus ride away (1.5km), so the city is easily accessible with its wonderful museums, fine restaurants, provençal markets, excellent shopping and other attractions. This town house has the benefit of being close to the city (there are relatively close neighbours but the house and garden are shielded by hedges and trees so remains private), and at the same time on the edge of the national park so has a wealth of activities available nearby (mountain biking, hiking, cycling, horse-riding) which are easily accessible by car, or even bike! The famous Sainte Victoire mountain painted by Cezanne is within a 5/10 minute drive. Mediterranean beaches can be reached within 30 minutes, Marseille within 30 minutes, the Luberon National Park (villages such as Lourmarin, Roussillon, Gordes) within 45 minutes and many other charming villages and wine growing regions in Provence. Marseille is celebrating being the European Capital of Culture in 2013 and will be hosting hundreds of cultural and artistic events throughout the year.
