WONDERFUL APARTMENT!!!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this apartment almost entire month of February! It is a beautiful space overlooking the Tiber! The apartment is spacious, clean and very bright....which I love!

The owner and her family were extremely helpful to me and were very quick to respond to my requests for help! The location is great! A short walk to the Vatican, the Spanish steps and Via del Corso! There is a little grocery store right behind the apartment building which had everything I needed!

It is also very close to public transportation!

I have stayed in many apartments in Rome and this is at the top of my list of favorites!

I have already recommended this apartment to my friends!

I will definitely return!!!

Impressive!

awesome view. and also very clean apartment, kitchen, most important is the bed and the bathroom is very clean.. and spacious. classic elevator. based on my experience, the owner is serious about preparing the apartment for us (guests). Mrs. Carderi who greet us cannot speak english, but one of her family, Alex is helping us via whatsapp. no problem. Old Rome is all walking distance. would surely comeback again if were in rome. Thanks Alex and Marissa, cheers

Great central location for sightseeing!

  • 4 of 5

LOVED our visit to Rome! We had no issues with the owner or getting into the apartment. The lady who met us only spoke Italian but we were able to figure things out. This apartment is in a great location along the Tiber River. The trees had leaves in September so the river view was limited but we still enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the mornings and evenings. It's also along a very busy street so there is traffic noise. We are from the suburbs but this was not an issue for us sleeping except the night they had a LARGE group of motorcycles going thru in the middle of the night. I did some research and think it was part of a charity bike run so who can get upset about that! We took a taxi from the airport and had the owner arrange a car for us back to the airport. Other than that, we walked to every place on our must see list (both in our 40's and left the kids at home with grandma). Bummed that the Trevi Fountain was undergoing renovation while we were there! The apartment has roll down shades that allowed us to sleep in while we adjusted to the time zone. The building does have an old elevator that was pretty neat to use and the apartment has A/C. The kitchen is sufficient but we only used it for breakfast items and our nightly wine/cheese before heading out to dinner. The bathroom is small compared to today's US standards but very typical for a European bathroom. We never did figure out how to close the shower door enough so that water didn't leak out onto the floor. The photos of the apartment are accurate except the sofas are different (there's still 2), there is a TV in the bedroom, and the pillar shown on the balcony had started crumbling so it's wrapped with green mesh. However, those are all trivial things that didn't interfere with our enjoyment of the apartment or Rome!

Outstanding location and great value

  • 5 of 5

Having been to Rome before many years earlier, I knew that lots of walking would be involved, so a good location would be key for us. I settled on the Piazza Navona area as being one of the most central to the attractions we planned to visit, and also with a wide variety of restaurant choices in the neighborhood. In choosing this property, I was attracted by the balconies, the warm wood finishes and the tall ceilings. When we arrived, we were met by the mother of the lady who booked our reservation, and Mama only spoke Italian. However, as she went through the apartment and explained where everything was and how it worked, we somehow understood her. Make sure you know how to get out of the building at ground level, there's a button you have to push if I remember correctly. There was also a sheet of paper in the apartment explaining various routines like trash recycling, as well as user manuals for the appliances. Our trip was at the beginning of autumn, and the trees were fully leafed out. We could see glimpses of the Tiber river through the trees and had a pleasant sunset view from the terrace to the west. The apartment itself had a kind of mid-1960's modern feel. The many windows made it bright and pleasant. The bed was super-comfortable. Now, there was street noise audible at most times. However, we never found it to be a problem for us, and we had no trouble sleeping. We walked almost everywhere from the apartment, only took a few taxis when we had to go over a mile, and never used the subway. We used the market close by near Via Tomacelli, and we loved the Taverna Ripetta ristorante which is right around the corner from the apartment. Ciampini near the Via del Corso has great pizza. We usually ate breakfast at the apartment, and the toaster was handy. This was my first time staying in an apartment instead of a hotel in a European city, and I was very pleased with the experience, and especially the price, which was far less what we would have paid for a decent boutique hotel in the same location.

Great for a family of 4

  • 5 of 5

The prior (and only) review was unduly harsh. This apartment worked well for our family (2 adults, 2 small children). It is centrally located, but at the same time, the neighborhood is largely residential and very quiet (we had no noise problems whatsoever). It is difficult for me to conceive of a location in Rome’s center which is more convenient but just off the beaten path. The location, I think, is its greatest asset.

The building is easy to reach by Taxi. It can also be reached by buses that stop nearby. The closest Metro stop is Spagna, so I would not plan on arriving by Metro. the building has an elevator.

I did not find any fault with the management of this apartment. All our dealings were very courteous and professional. Arriving was not difficult, and the person who met us was friendly and helpful. It probably helped that I speak some Italian, but I speak it quite poorly, so I don’t think anyone else will have trouble communicating.

The kitchen is fine - typical for a small apartment in a city - better actually, it has a washing machine and dishwasher – a godsend. We used the kitchen for breakfast and a couple of lunches and snacks and it was absolutely fine. There is a range (no oven), microwave, refrigerator, and toaster, and it is stocked with utensils, plates, glasses. Really, unless you plan on spending your stay in Rome making pasta fatto a mano, the kitchen is absolutely fine. The prior visitors left basic supplies (as did we when we left), but obviously, we had to get our own food, coffee, toilet paper, etc. I have never rented an apartment or house where the owner stocked these items, so this was perfectly normal to us. The bedroom is separated by two sliding wall sections – they are substantial, but the bedroom does not close off completely from the rest of the apartment. This was ideal for our small children, but, say, two couples should consider privacy needs.

Management provided some information about the area, but regardless, you can find a supermarket, at least 3 pizzerie (two very good ones) and 5 restaurants (including some of the best pasta alla gricia in all Rome), a cash machine, grocery store, butcher shop, bakery (cookies and bread), and several gelaterie all within 5 blocks, so if you don’t "come prepared", you will end up falling over whatever you are looking for shortly after leaving the apartment.

Without hesitation, I would stay here again.

Good location but noisy and a few other cons...

  • 3 of 5

First, I should say that the property was very clean, well maintained and in an extremely central location on the Tiber. It is not "2 steps from Spanish Steps" at all, however, and unless you go in the dead of winter, you won't have much of a view of the Tiber as there are trees blocking what would otherwise be a panoramic vista.

I arrived at the planned time around 6pm and after ringing for a while, was greeted not by Laura, with whom I had been emailing, but by the owner (?) who didn't introduce herself, didn't speak English and didn't trouble herself to help me with my bags. I arrived the day before my boyfriend with a fair amount of baggage. Not that I expected her to heft my duffel, but perhaps my small backpack? Not a brilliant welcome.

The apartment is as it appears but do note that there is no way to close off the living room from the bedroom entirely. It gets great light but also fairly epic traffic noise at all hours - we resorted to ear plugs and sleeping pills.

The kitchen is very rudimentary but adequate, there were no basic supplies like coffee though Laura brought me some the next day, and we had to struggle to get enough towels for two people, not to mention an ongoing battle for toilet paper. We finally gave up on that one and bought our own. I'm not sure how two rolls for two people for seven days makes sense and when weighing the cost of providing more against the rather cheap and icky feeling of inadequate customer service, were I the owner, it would be a no brainer.

There is no info in the apartment other than a map of nearby grocery stores and a bakery, so you had better come prepared. In summary, what you see is what you get on this one, plus noise, minus views, and without any warm or fuzzy assistance from the management.

Should I return to Rome, I think I will look elsewhere though for some, this apartment may be adequate.

Owner's Response: As I'm used to do with all other reviews posted from our guests , my answers always start thanking them for the time they spent leaving honest memories, suggestions and impressions of our property. I'm sorry that you have not appreciated the courtesy with which we answered to your 26 emails that preceded your arrival. We had clearly explained that in the house we provide all linen , bed linen, cleaning products for any , let's take a small supply of basic necessities, but then everyone has to clearly provide for their needs .Sorry, but we can not give a hotel service ! We try to make you feel at home, that's why we still care to bring coffee, or what you have requested , however promptly. We still wanted to reassure you that even in summer you'd have a view of the Tiber, not only now while the trees are bare , because the apartment is on the 4th floor of a building where each apartment has ceilings 4 meters , so the view is still taller than the trees and the noise , with storm windows , comes very muffled . Obviously Rome is a city very eventful , where it is difficult to meet the peaceful silence of nature We truly regret that you did not feel that our apartment level were where it should be. We pride ourselves our ensuring that every guest is looked after, with the most care. Our daily effort is to welcome and personalize each single stay, with individual preferences and wishes.
