Heavenly Vacation

5 of 5
Submitted: August 6, 2008 Stayed: July 2008
Words can't even describe the beauty of this location. The description provided is most certainly accurate. All of us couldn't speak when we first walked in the door!! It was in perfect order, very clean and well cared for. The home was so spacious, beautifully furnished, and the view was breathtaking! It was beyond our expectations! It is honestly very difficult to describe how beautiful it all was.

We certainly recommend this rental to anyone looking for peace and quiet. We took walks every morning and spent the majority of the days on the private beach or on the deck overlooking the beach and the Lake. We ate at the 2 local resturants, Legs Inn and The Crow's Nest. We had very positive experiences at both of them. We spent some time in Harbor Springs, which we highly recommend doing while visiting Cross Village. We also took the kids and spent a day at the Mackinac City Water Park, Thunder Bay. Tons of fun!! The closest full grocery store is Glen's in Petosky about 30 miles away. We found a small IGA in Harbor Springs with the basics, too.

Honestly there is not one thing that was wrong with this rental. We would recommend this home to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing, low-key vacation. We were so happy to be able to bring our 2 dogs. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves, too.

No doubt we will be back next summer. Thanks again!!!

Perfect Home and Location, Well Worth the Visit

5 of 5
Submitted: September 26, 2011 Stayed: September 2011
I stayed here for a short weekend, and by the end of my stay I deeply regretted not arranging for a longer stay. The home is spaceous and clean, with a well equipped kitchen and all the modern conveniences one could ask for in a vacation cottage. The proximity to the beach was just right, and the view is spectacular, both day and night. If you've never watched a sunset over a distant horizon, then this is the place to experience it.

Nighttime is peaceful and quiet, with the only sound coming from the tide washing over the rocks along the beach. Both myself and my wife had a great night's sleep.

Locally, there's good places to eat and quaint little shops to explore, but we could have spent the whole time at this great house and never felt like we missed out on anything. It was truly a worthwhile visit, and I look forward to visiting again.

This house is perfection on the beach!
My wife and I have stayed here more times than we can remember and it is always our first choice of the many rentals available.
As you enter the unassuming streetside entrance you are greeted by a by a wall of glass on the other side of the great room that offers the most spectacular views of Lake Michigan to be found anywhere..
With the vaulted ceilings, this spacious home seems even larger than it is. We have stayed here with as many as 3 other couples and have never felt cramped. The well equiped kitchen has plenty of elbow room for "too many cooks" and the two living rooms (one up one down) allows for a separate space for the young ones.
The North Country Trail is less than a mile away and of course the miles and miles of beach on Sturgeon Bay offer a northern experience that is hard to beat.

Honest to Goodness bit of Paradise!

5 of 5
Submitted: February 15, 2010 Stayed: September 2009
We chose this rental for our vacation last autumn and can’t wait to return! The panoramic views of Lake Michigan from inside this spectacular home kept us amazed from morning to night. The great room provides a feeling of connectivity throughout the kitchen, dining & living areas, and the well equipped kitchen & choices of dining tables made mealtimes & entertaining easy and delightful for all ages! With the comfortable separation of the bedrooms, each with it’s own bath, we had full privacy & quiet places to retreat to. It was very clean, well kept, and we couldn’t have asked for more!

We were pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of birds we viewed, and especially thrilled with the Bald Eagles and Common Loons that flew right overhead on their way to or from the lake! The trees that provide such privacy from the cottage next door were often visited by songbirds, & observing the frequent Hummingbirds just out the kitchen windows was delightful. We used both morning & evening decks, and always enjoyed the lake and long walks along the shore.

This location is so convenient for visiting elsewhere and we found the recommended Crow’s Nest to be a great, nearby dinner destination. We liked driving the scenic roads in the area and shopped in Good Hart, Harbor Springs, and Petosky all of which offered interesting choices. Heading back to this cottage with all its amenities and with our fresh goodies, we knew we had everything we could dream of right there! With each day, we felt like we never wanted to leave and that’s why we look forward to returning.

This rental is perfect for any and all! You'll especially enjoy it if you like things like stargazing from the comfort of the chairs on the deck, listening to Lake Michigan’s endless lullabies, and waking to some bit of Paradise you'll feel is all your own!

Check beach conditions before your stay

3 of 5
Submitted: July 28, 2009 Stayed: July 2009
Upon arriving the first thing my kids wanted to do was to head to the water and check out the beach. When we all made it down to the water we found that the pictures posted on the property listing did not accurately reflect the conditions we found during our stay. After our 30-day window to cancel with full refund past the property manager informed us that the lake level was higher this year, resulting in a rocky beach front, and recommended bringing some type of water shoe to used to protect our feet. What we found was an approximately 8-10 foot wide area of rock covered beach above the water line with rocks extending out into the water on the lake bottom. Needless to say everyone in our party was diapppointed with what we encountered. Inside the cottage we found that the previous renter must have left the doors/windows open and found hundreds of nats or mayflies inside the cottage which congregated on the cathedral ceiling and in other areas throughout the cottage. Some of them had been killed and left smashed against the walls, others we tried vacuuming up or died within an few days and accumulated in various places thourghout the cottage. With about two days left in our stay ants began to enter the lower level through the basement bedroom door. Some areas/features of the cottage were dated and worn, light bulbs were missing from fixtures, and the carperting in the lower lever was stained/worn and in need of replacement.

Overall the floor plan of the cottage worked well and exterior of the property was well kept. Very nice lake views from the main living/dinning area and upper deck. The large sand dune across the street was fun to climb and provided a panoramic view of the surrounding area. However, the condition of the interior of the cottage during our stay, in addition to the misleading photos of the beach front at lake level in the property listing, was not what we expected for the price.
Owner's Response: Yes, indeed the beach shoreline does change from season to season and from month to month, as we are there in the late spring and are always surprised to see how it has changed when we arrive late summer. Most of the years, there has been an adequate-sized beach.
As for the nats and flies, those too depend on the weather and they can get through even the smallest of screens. We have them in our house in Petoskey, too. It has been an unusual summer with lots of rain and varying temperatures!
As for the interior, the owners will be there the month of August and I imagine they will assess how the wear and tear of the home has been. It is a popular home and rented by multi-generational families for vacations with lots of positive reviews and memories I am sure.
