Todi is a picturesque medieval hill town surrounded by medieval, Roman and Etruscan walls. Almost all Todi's main medieval buildings front on the main square, Piazza del Popolo, often used as a movie set. Todi is in the southern part of the Umbria region, the region in the centre of Italy. Like neighbouring Tuscany, Umbria is dotted with hill towns but has fewer tourists. Towns such as Spoleto (44km), Orvieto (38km), or Perugia (46km) are within easy reach. Todi is near the Tiber River overlooking the Tiber Valley Natural Park. Umbria is often called Italy's green heart for its nature parks, it also has one of Italy's largest lakes, Lake Trasimeno, and spectacular waterfalls, Cascate delle Marmore.
In late summer, the Todi Art Festival has art exhibits and drama, opera, classical music, and ethnic music performances and there are 'summer evening' events scheduled throughout the summer. In July is the Gran Premio Internazionale Mongolfieristico, an international ballooning competition with 50 hot air balloons from Europe and the US. Theatre is held in the Teatro Comunale from November through April.
The tourist information office is located in the main square.
The closest airport is Perugia Sant'Egidio, 30 minutes by car from the house, there is a direct flight to London Stansted operated by Ryanair.
