Overview

Islington Townhome Rental Photos and Description

Townhome, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 2-4)

This garden maisonette is located in a peaceful Georgian enclave in the heart of central London. It is a stylish, airy and modern space, designed by award-winning architects. It is also extremely comfortable.

I live here half of the year (I'm a filmmaker and am often away on long shoots) so this is very much a loved home full of character and interesting artefacts from around the globe.

The maisonette opens out onto a beautiful large garden with outdoor lighting which can be enjoyed for much of the year. It has a brand new Weber gas BBQ which guests are welcome to use.

The ground floor comprises a big sunny open plan living room, dining area and kitchen with a stunning glass conservatory and limestone floor which has underfloor heating throughout - so your bare feet will always stay toasty warm even in the depths of winter! Looking out into the garden it's very hard to believe that one is in the heart of central London!

I am a real 'foody' and the kitchen is very well stocked with gadgets galore for those of you who like to cook. The fridge has an automatic ice dispenser and freshly filtered chilled water on tap.

The first floor has two bedrooms and a bathroom.

The master bedroom overlooks the tranquility of the garden which backs onto a private cobbled mews. From the bed all one can see is sky and trees. It has beautiful handmade curtains, designer lighting controlled on a dimmer switch and original wooden flooring.

The bathroom is a 'wet room' with a huge rain shower, oversized sink, heated slate floor and heated towel rail.

The front bedroom is extremely quiet and also has a big window and wooden flooring. It has a very comfortable bed which can be used as a single or converted into a double.

The apartment also has wifi internet access and the rent includes up to 60 minutes free phone calls per week to landlines in the States and Europe. There are lots of maps and guidebooks for you to use during your stay.

The maisonette is in a Grade II listed townhouse set in a leafy, safe conservation area of Georgian London. Whilst the area is very quiet, the vibrant neighbourhoods of Islington, Bloomsbury and Clerkenwell are just five minutes away, offering theatres, cinemas, museums, a fantastic range of shops, bars and restaurants. With King's Cross and the Angel tube stations less than ten minutes walk away this is the ideal hub for almost anywhere in London. There is a historical walk from my doorstep through Clerkenwell past St Pauls Cathedral to the River Thames and Tate Modern. It is also a few minutes walk away from one of London's most authentic 'cockney' markets - where you can still buy a lobster for £5 at weekends!

I am happy to welcome 1-4 people.

Please note the maisonette is not suitable for toddlers as the staircase is open-plan and there are no child gates fitted.

A great place to stay in London!

  • 5 of 5
Three of us (myself, husband and 13-year-old son) stayed here for a week over the Christmas holiday and had a great time. The residence is just as attractive as it appears in the photos. The bedrooms are cozy and comfortable, the kitchen is modern and easy to work in (plenty of cooking equipment; while we ordered in food several nights, we did cook dinner there as well), and the living/dining areas are very nicely decorated with many artworks and mementos. The 2 bedrooms and bath are on the ground level, with stairs leading down to the kitchen and living/dining room areas. (Note: when the shower is in use, the bathroom is strictly a one-person operation.) The location is very quiet, on a residential street in Islington (part of a historic block of homes), yet is a brief 2-block walk to busy streets and commercial areas; it is a 10-minute walk to St. Pancras/Kings Cross tube station (we took the Eurostar to Paris for a day and the location of the flat made this very easy) and a 5-10 minute walk to Angel tube station. We felt that we were really living in London since, while the townhome is not immediately adjacent to tourist sites, all of London's attractions are easily within reach. There are many good restaurants (either eat in or carry out or delivery) in the area; we had great meals at Jamie's Italian and at a terrific gastropub, A Hundred Crows Rising. There are also several grocery stores a short walk away which made it easy to have breakfast foods and snacks handy. While everything in the house worked, we did have a couple of questions and the owner got back to us right away. I would definitely stay here again and only wish I knew when I was next coming to London so I could!

My sister and I spent a glorious week here in the midst of a heat wave in the fall. The split-level flat is imaginatively designed and colourfully decorated by the owner, Jenny, who lives there most of the time and whose library, CD collection, art and cookbooks reflect a love of travel and Latin culture. The main bedroom is light-filled and lovely and the queen-sized bed is comfortable, likewise a more spartan pull-out mattress on the floor in the front room; the kitchen/dining room excellent for cooking and entertaining. The lush backyard planted with bamboo, lavender, herbs and flowers was as perfect a setting for morning coffee as for an early evening glass of wine.
Nearby, the street stalls of Chapel Market, the spiffy Waitrose supermarket, Ottolenghi take-out, Paul's patisserie and Steve Hatt's Fishmongers made it easy and fun for us to put together a celebratory dinner for ten. Alternatively, there are restaurants of all sorts within walking distance, including highly rated Moro in Exmouth Market where we had a memorable meal.
Despite its central location, the flat itself is tucked away on a quiet, pretty street. Amazing that such a tranquil spot exists so close to major traffic hubs of Angel and King's Cross. Buses and tube station connections abound, and taxis are easy to find. In fine weather, the opportunities for walking are plentiful. A short stroll north connects to the antique shops of Camden Passage and to London’s extensive canal system. Westward, one can meander through pleasant streets and historic St. George’s Gardens to Tavistock Square (check out the Gandhi Memorial at the centre), and south to the British Museum in half an hour. Alternatively, head south through historic neighbourhoods (see medieval St. John's Gate, St. Bartholomew-the-Great Church, Smithfield Market, Postman's Park and St. Paul's Cathedral on the way) to reach Millennium Bridge and the Thames in under an hour. I would recommend this flat to travellers seeking discovery, comfort and repose in central London.

Greatest stay in London yet

  • 5 of 5
We have been in London many times and stayed in a variety of rentals and hotels. Nothing beats Jenny's place for location, comfort, and style for money. We had a great time, were in reach of everything we needed and can only recommend this great lodging experience

Hood Family October Holiday

  • 4 of 5
We had a great week at this lovely central London flat, great space including outside space, rare in London. So close to King's Cross tube and station, so everywhere is within easy reach. Nice local restaurants and shops too. I would highly recommend this flat for a family break in the city, enough space for four and very well equipped with lots of personal touches to make it a home, not just a holiday apartment.

Plenty of sunshine in London with this fab place to stay!

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I took a long-awaited honeymoon/babymoon to London and loved staying at Jenny's place. We loved the relaxed vibe, artistic touches, cool music selection, and lovely outside garden. When we showed up, she warmly greeted us to a neat, clean, and fabulous place to stay for 10 days.

The bedroom overlooked the garden and downstairs, and the comfy sunroom is amazing and allows lots of light to flow in, even when it was raining outside. The lush garden in the back was even nicer than expected!

Instead of spending money on a hotel, we had more room to relax and enjoy what living in London is really like. We had plenty of room to spread out, did laundry as needed, enjoyed open air meals, and groovy music from her selection.

We were within walking distance of bustling Islington where we went grocery shopping, found a fab organic pub, an open air market, and great ethnic restaurants. Jenny provides plenty of info on the local places to go as well. It's a short walk to the Kings Cross and Angel tube lines and if you prefer, major bus lines.

Places that are close the Jenny's that we enjoyed... The London Library with a great exhibition, The Duke of Cambridge organic pub, Chapel Market open air food market, Wagamama noodle house, and the amazing Abney Cemetary (on the 73 bus to Stoke Newington --- super cool). And so much more just tube stops away!

We hope to be back soon...

A Perfect Place

  • 5 of 5
I can not rave enough about our stay at Jenny's Garden Maisonette flat in Islington. The flat is conveniently located near the Angel tube station, several bus stops, local pubs, markets, shops and grocery stores. Garden Maisonette, has a great garden in the back of the property, quiet bedrooms at the first floor and a very fluid entertaining area on the ground floor with heated floors! The pictures enclosed are accurate, but do not do justice to the feel of the property. Jenny has a great art collection, and inspiring interior design; worthy enough for one to not leave the flat. She also leaves the renter with a lot of valuable information about the unit and its neighborhood.

I would recommend this property to everyone, it was a fantastic stay. And most of all I gained a new London friend who lives in the hippest part of town. What more could a traveler ask for?

Thanks Jenny!!!
