Bougainvillea Sunrise is the place to truly get away from it all and relax. This magical, airy two bedroom, two bath home is nestled into the hillside of Estate Concordia with an areial view of John's Folly Bay. The East End of St. John to the British Virgin Islands are the back drop to your view of the Caribbean Sea.
Sunrises are not to be missed at least once during your stay. Seeing darkness turning to light as the bright red sun emerges from the sea and the sky turns brilliant shades of pink is one of the unique benefits of this home.
Both bedrooms are air conditioned, providing maximum comfort for sleeping and cooling off as necessary during the day. The master bedroom features a king size bed along with a full bath, flat screen tv and private balcony, all overlooking the ocean. Wander down the steps from the balcony to the large private porch to relax in the hammock or lounge chairs.
The second beroom features two comfortable twin beds. Tropical flowers grow outside the bedroom window in the terraced back yard. Located across the hall is another full bathroom.
The main living area extends into an incredible sunroom with two daybeds perched above the water. This is an ideal place to start your day. Watch the sailboats bob in the ocean or you may even get lucky and see sting rays in the bay below. Sunrises are amazing with the sun rising out of the ocean. Sunsets are also beautiful watching the colors of the sky change over the hillside.
Plenty of windows and skylights throughout this home create a light and airy atmosphere.
The fully equipped kitchen opens to the dining area. Everything you need to create a fantastic island dinner is here for you. Seating at the kitchen island is great to keep the cook company or you can dine at the teak dining table in the dining area. Grilling outide is also an option with a gas grill on the back porch right outside the kitchen door making cooking fun inside or outside.
Native hermit crabs live in the rocks outside the kitchen window. Eating left overs, especially coffee grinds makes them happy and ensures their stay. Have your own crab races. Great fun for both kids and adults.
Salt Pond Bay and Beach, part of the Virgin Islands National Park is about five minutes by car. Salt Pond offers some of the island's best snorkeling. It is about a five minute walk down a trail from the parking area. Ram's Head Hiking Trail starts out at Salt Pond. It offers breathtaking views and full moon rises. Salt Pond Beach is so named because there is a natural salt pond behind the beach. Depending on the weather you may find salt crystals.
Wander into the town of Coral Bay for restaurants, shopping, and groceries. You're likely to see free roaming donkeys and goats on the 1o minute ride along the island road into Coral Bay.
Coral Bay is the quiet side of St. John so please remember you may not be able to get everything you need there. There are two grocery stores that provide most of the basics and some of the luxuries. Cruz Bay is about a 45 minute drive for more shopping and grocery selections.
We also own a restaurant in Coral Bay, Aqua Bistro,http://www.aquabistrostjohn.com/, and offer a free drink to all of our guests.
Please note travel time from the airport in St. Thomas can be 2-3 hours depending on the ferry schedule between the islands. It is a beautiful journey between and through both islands and adds to the away from it all experience.
We have lived in the Virgin Islands most of our adult lives. We now split our time between our island home and a home in the mountains of North Carolina. We love our home in St. John and are happy to now share it's unique character with visitors to our island.
Marc Kaye or Carrie Glenn purchased this house in 1998
The amazing views are what sold us on this property. They are really unbelievable. It has a laid back natural style to it. The native hermit crabs living in the terraces were really what did it for us.
The natural setting and style of the house make it easy to feel at one with nature. Once you arrive at Bougainvillea Sunrise you really are away from it all. It can be just what is needed when life gets too busy.
My family of 4 stayed for a week. The home had everything we needed and had plenty of outdoor spaces to enjoy the view and the breeze. After days spent snorkeling, we were glad to have such a relaxing space to come back to at the end of the day. Carrie and Marc were quick to respond to any questions we had. One recommendation to first-time travelers to St. John's (like me): spring for the 4WD rental car. If you are planning to explore the beaches, you will do plenty of driving and will want the higher clearance and power of 4WD. We definitely recommend this home!
This is a beautiful home with lots of room. Plenty of outdoor deck space. Everything was as portrayed on the website. The property was clean and well maintained. The Concordia Cafe is a short walk away and offers good food and entertainment. Walking distance to Salt Pond Bay. We would definitely stay there again.
Spent 9 nights here on the quiet side of the island. Views beyond compare. House had everything we could have wanted. Salt Pond Bay is 5 minutes away with fantastic calm waters for our daily snorkel. Owners provided everything we needed in terms of info and suggestions. Would not hesitate to stay here again. Thanks for the memories.
Looking to spend some quality time with the family on St. John and we were so fortunate to rent a week at this location. The house was everything and more we hoped it would be, The description on website was on target. Owners were very helpful with getting us settled in to this unique, beautiful spot. Property was well maintained, spotless and with many creature comforts. Location was in a quiet neighborhood but easily accessible to may options. We walked to Salt Pond to snorkel as well as Ram's Head from house. Great restaurants within a 10 minute drive. After spending a day over in busy Cruz Bay, we were so happy we had chosen this end of the Island for our Getaway.Wishing we had booked another week to relax at this slice of heaven. * Hermit Crabs made the trip for our 2 daughters!
Bougainvillea Sunrise is lovely, its simple beauty perfectly reflecting its gorgeous setting. I can still hear the breeze and see the blue green Caribbean and distant isles if I listen closely to my mind's eye. The villa was clean when we arrived and Marc was there to greet us and answer any questions. The amenities were in good condition, and we used the grill and outdoor shower and deck many times. Our two children are teenagers and with the layout of the villa we were able to get along easily and amicably. The appliances all worked well and we enjoyed the island knowing we had such a nice place to come back to at the end of the day.
We so appreciated the hospitality and warmth of the weather and the people we met. We did yoga twice and dined well at neighboring Concordia, as well as snorkeling every day at different beaches and dancing most nights. What a vibrant local music scene! There is a great lunch place right at the bottom of the drive that is not to be missed with its delicious fresh food and entertaining staff. We also had an amazing meal at Aqua Bistro, the owners' restaurant in nearby Coral Bay, that will be long remembered. It is a beautiful beachside restaurant and bar and a real favorite of the locals. The ribeye and ponzu ahi tuna are unparalleled.
We would not only recommend this villa to family and friends, but also hope to return ourselves, sooner rather than later.
My family of three enjoyed a ten day stay at this beautiful and comfortable home. We felt relaxed and happy being able to end and begin our days here. It is very clean with ocean breezes bringing in fresh air.
This home is perfect blend of modern conveniences such as air conditioning in the bedrooms with an outdoor natural feeling. The kitchen windows are open air with sugar birds chirping away outside and native hermit crabs living in the hillside happily awaiting your morning coffee grinds or any leftovers you have. The act as a natural garbage disposal and can provide hours of entertainment for both children and adults.
We enjoyed many sunrises and sunsets from the deck. The view is indescribable. You can see all the way to Virgin Gorda in the BVI and watch sailboats, cargo ships, and the light on the ocean. If there happens to be some rain the sunroom inside the house is the place to get comfortable and enjoy the view.
The owners and manager were very easy to deal with. There were always available to answer questions and their on site local knowledge was helpful in planning our stay on St. John.
We look forward to many return visits to St. John and Bougainvillea Sunrise.
Relax and enjoy the ocean views and breezes from your private deck and home or wander over to Concordia Eco Resort to take advantage of amenties they offer such as yoga, water sports, movie nights and crab races to name a few. They also serve dinner nightly with a full bar and live music depending on the night.
Salt Pond Beach with amazing snorkeling and hiking is five minutes away. Part of the Virgin Islands National Park, this is one of the best beaches on St. John.
