my wife and i stayed at loon pines for 2 weeks and just loved it. when we arrived the owner was at his cabin across the street and came over to welcome us in person and informed us of the laws and regulations of the town. one thing we wanted to do was some fishing and found out thet you needed a permit which the owner told us where to get one. the best thing is that if you are looking for a quiet get away with not alot of people around this is the place for you. nice cabin on a secluded lake very friendly people around and noone to bother you. there is plenty to do with the downtown area of plymoth and activities at the cabin, boating, fishing, bbq, swimming, hiking, and much more.plenty for the kids.

How can you beat Summer in NH?

NH Transplant Carlsbad, CA USA
Review Submitted: October 1, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
We loved our vacation here at Loon Pines. The cottage is rustic and ideal for a lake vacation. Although the weather prior to our visit was less than desirable, with monsoon-like rain for weeks on end, after a few days of sun and warm weather the ground dried up and the lake warmed up. The kids loved being able to catch frogs, toads, dragonflies..all kinds of creatures. We even got to be a part of our own nature show (as my 4 1/2 yr old said) and witness a snake at the lakeside froggy buffet. Our hosts were extremely accommodating and helpful. The cottage is well-equipped with dishes, sheets, bedding. I would suggest some bigger towels for those of us who of the JLo-ish persuasion though. Also, for those of us who vacation from far away, more space for storing clothing would be nice too.
The lake is gorgeous and perfect for small children to play and swim. The wild blueberries lakeside were a HUGE hit with my 1 1/2 yr old. And the fish must be practically starving because we were catching fish left and right. My 1 1/2 yr old caught a 10" lg.mouth bass on a sponge-bob fishing pole that was a foot long!!!
All in all we loved this spot and hope to return again.

Rainy Adventure on Loon Lake

humbird Cumberland, RI
Review Submitted: August 19, 2008 Date of Stay: August 2008
Our family vacation was accompanied by some sort of rain each day. A total of five inches of rain fell during the week we were there. The cozy, personal touch the cottage provided enabled us to still have a great time. The decor and cabin amenities created a relaxing environment. It was like home away from home! We started each day with a visit to the Shell station on Tenney Mountain Highway where we set up a movie rental account and picked up the newspaper to keep in touch with the weather forecast so that we could plan our excursions accordingly. The folks at Shell were very friendly and also provided directions to the various places we visited. Our time on the lake included some swimming (in the rain too) but I have to say that our dog did more swimming than us. As we cruised along in the boat on the lake we meet some friendly neighbors that pointed out fishing spots and the best time of day to fish. We were also able to fish from shore. Our catch consisted of bass and pickeral. The highlights of our week (besides renting 12 movies) included visits to downtown Plymouth, North Woodstock and Waterville Valley (quaint shops). The rain cleared long enough for us to visit the Polar Caves where my husband and I realized that "We're getting to old for this stuff"! Next, the search begins. Our youngest daughter was on a mission to find a tye-dyed sweatshirt with peace symbols and NH on it. Mission accomplished in Waterville Valley. Next, a second trip (mind you - gas prices) to Clark's Trading Post gift shop for a sweatshirt that my oldest daughter declared on the first trip was too expensive. Lesson learned as my husband declared, "When on vacation and you see something you like - get it because there will be no return trips in the future". Great places to eat in Plymouth are George's Seafood & BBQ and Bad Dawgs. We also found a great breakfast/lunch restaurant in Campton (exit 28 on Rte 3N) called The Stixx. Two of us had breakfast and the other two had lunch. The food and atmosphere were excellant! Needless to say, we had a great time and are planning on returning to Loon Lake in the summer of 2009. In the meantime, we'll be praying for nice weather and sun but know that if the weather does not cooperate we will still have a good time. And yes, the movie rental account will come in handy. Thank you for allowing us to share in your serenity on Loon Lake. We returned to RI well rested.
