Mas Cagnet – La Grande Maison - is a large south facing self-catering house located on the border of the Gard and Vaucluse departments. It has been sympathetically converted from an old barn using the original stone and retaining exposed beams. The house sleeps 14 people in seven bedrooms, has a large very well equipped kitchen, a games room and a 6m x12m swimming pool, all of this making it ideal for multi family holidays and family reunions. It is surrounded by vineyards and unspoilt forest but is only 10 minutes by car to the nearest village of Goudargues, with local shopping, ATM, cafes, and several restaurants. The ambiance of Mas Cagnet is peaceful, relaxed and sociable. You can choose a variety of holiday experiences ranging from quiet and restful to the more active and strenuous. Rambling, hiking, cycling, canoeing, and tennis are all available locally.

Mas Cagnet is on the border of the Gard and Vaucluse regions, just to the west of the Rhone. The property is located near the top of the ridge separating the Ardeche and Ceze rivers. The proximity to these two rivers offers canoeing and river-beach activities and amazing caves to be explored. Ten minutes away by car is Goudargues – a picturesque village with food shopping and restaurants arranged either side of a slow flowing, shallow canal. Cycling is very popular for those serious about the sport - it's a good training ground for competiitions. The area is rich in Roman history with magnificent amphitheatres in Arles and Orange, Roman temples in Nimes and an enormous aqueduct, built in 19BC, in Pont du Gard. On a more modern note, the house is a few fields from the Cotes du Rhone wine region. The nearest towns are Pont St. Esprit and Bagnols-sur-Ceze and historic Uzes, Orange and Avignon, are within easy driving distance. Street markets are held in these towns on different days.

Notes: Tennis courts are located about 10km away in Goudargues and St. Julian de Peyrolas; bicycles can be hired in Bagnols-sur-Ceze, and a 26 or 32 km canoe descent of the Ardeche River for the adventurous is available from St Martin d' Ardeche. Horse trekking is also available nearby. A feature of the house is two large covered outdoor dining areas. These, in partnership with an abundant and inexpensive supply of the local wine, make for long lazy lunches! Finally, the local forest and stream provide excellent challenge and interest for the young - and not so young -explorers.

Mas Cagnet Background: Mas Cagnet is a secluded collection of connected farm buildings which have been converted into four separate homes over the last few years. They are surrounded by fields, vineyards and forest. Each dwelling has its own aspect, space and parking. The rental property, La Grande Maison, is the largest and enjoys the south facing aspect of the site. To the north of La Grande Maison is the cottage which is connected to, but independent of the rental property. It has its own separate entrance and amenity space and is the holiday home of the Mas Cagnet owners. To the north of the cottage, and also connected to it is a two bedroom apartment. The main farmhouse has not yet been refurbished but has planning permission for a 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom house.

Events and Workshops at Mas Cagnet.: Mas Cagnet has been host to social events, quilting and yoga workshops. Next year (2009) there will be quilting workshops from April 25th-May 2nd, May 2nd - 9th, May 23rd - 30th, Sept 12th -19th and Sept 19th - 26th.. The price of £750 (£700 if sharing) includes all meals, airport transfers and daily tuition. Ring Krys Evans on +44 208 977 4650 for details. Wedding and big birthday parties have been held there with great success. The house has accommodated 60 people for dinner ‘under the arches’ and, with the help of a marquee, 120 people for a wedding. The games room can be configured as a board room, a meditation/yoga space, and a business planning meeting venue. Additional accommodation in the area can usually be arranged given sufficient notice.

Our family spent two sun filled weeks in mas cagnet. The house and grounds were beautiful and peaceful, with an array of interesting plant and bug life. The surrounding villages were a treat to visit and there was a large selection of cultural events on throughout the summer months. We used the house as a base to explore the local area, the highlights being the crazy nearby waterfalls, canoeing in Goudarges & the ampitheatre in Nimes. Our group was aged from 74 to 9 and there was something for everyone, the pool and house were excellent, and the amount to do and see in the local area left us never having a dull moment.

We had a fab week at Mas Cagnet. There were 14 of us but the house provided plenty of room for everyone. We had wonderful weather in August and spent most of our time around the pool. One night we had a fancy dress party 'Summer of Love'. The whole holiday was loved by all ages from 14years - 80.
We would all recommend the house and the location for a holiday to remember and a house which is even better than the description and photographs on the web site.
