Photos and Description of the Uzes vacation house rental
Idyllic location, surrounded by vineyards, easy access to towns, Med & Mountains

If you're looking for the classic character house with a pool and outdoor space in which to soak up the real French experience, 'Tigh Chéilidh' is for you! The property is a delightful 3 storey stone village house on the edge of the lovely gardoise village of Garrigues, close to Uzes. The sunny roof terrace with uninterrupted views over the surrounding vineyards is the ideal spot for taking a leisurely breakfast or sipping aperitifs watching sun go down, whilst the splash pool and sun deck provide a relaxing area for cooling down and unwinding. The small garden situated opposite the house, offers space to sit and natter or BBQ and dine on locally bought market produce.

Like all older stone properties, this comfortable, well-presented house has it's eccentricities which add to it's charm and character. On the ground floor, the stylish, well-equipped kitchen has vaulted ceilings and floor length windows which open out across to the garden and let a bright and airy feel into the kitchen. Decorated with a mix of traditional and modern furniture and with fully integrated conveniences, the house is a blend of old world charm and up-to-date facilities.

The classical stone walls and vaulted ceilings in the living room, which has a calm, contemporary colour scheme, provide a cool escape from the midday sun or a cosy refuge during colder periods.

The wide stone staircase leads up to a spacious first floor bedroom with twin or a king size bed, a bathroom, separate WC and utility room and a further bedroom. The master bedroom can be found on the second floor - a lovely, airy bedroom with a large double bed, floor to ceiling fitted wardrobes and 'quirky' en-suite shower room with it's own outdoor terrace!

The large, sunny roof terrace, accessed through the master bedroom, has a covered area with table and chairs for dining and an open area for chilling out and taking in those rays!

The village is situated close to the fabulous Duchy Town of Uzes, with it's fabulous and famous Saturday morning market, abundance of pretty, independent shops and excellent gastronomic restaurants, and also within easy access of the vibrant cosmopolitan towns of Nimes & Montpellier. Garrigues lies surrounded by vineyards, beautiful countryside and stunning scenery to the north and west and the vast sandy beaches of the Med and the Camargue to the south.

If you can tear yourself away from the tranquillity and if you want to explore a little further than the beautiful countryside immediately surrounding the property - at once vineyards and 'garrigues', natural scrub land covered with fig and olive, oak and plane trees, there is an unending list of attractions and activities in the area.

For food and wine lovers, there is an abundance of gastronomic delights and wine domains:

A visit to the region would not be complete without visiting one of the many markets where pallets of local produce are displayed in glorious multicolour with aromas to entice, whilst the numerous fabulous restaurants also make use of the many Specialities of the Region on their menus such as:The Picholine Olive; Uzès Honey; The 'Pelardon' is the traditional goat's cheese of the Cevennes; The Uzège Truffle; Asparagus; Figs; Chestnuts; Camargue Rice; Shellfish. Dishes such as 'Boeuf à la Gardianne' and 'Brandade du Morue' should be tried and savoured!

Wine: Being a part of the largest wine producing region in France means that there is a wealth of expertise to be drawn on. Visit the numerous 'caves cooperatives' and private cellars and taste the various appellations such as St Gervais, Chusclan, Laudun, Pic St Loup and Regional Côtes du Rhône, Costières de Nimes and Tavel Rosé

Culture lovers can wander in and wonder at the towns and cities of historical significance in the area such as Nimes, Uzès, Montpellier, Arles, Orange and Avignon (Provence) or visit the delightful mediaeval towns of Vézénobres, Aigues Mortes, La Roque-sur-Cèze and St Guilhem-le-Désert (Hérault).

The area is a playground for both culture and fun: From the Mont Aigoual, the highest point in the Cevennes, to the fine sands of the Mediterranean, without forgetting the famous Pont du Gard, the Gard offers a wide range of breathtaking sites and a varied and beautiful choice of heritage. Lush green forests, areas of wild garrigue and beautiful coastline have made this area, witness to 2,000 years of history and one of the main birthplaces of Roman civilisation, a stunning mosaic of the warm and dazzling sunlight of the Midi.

To list all the activities and attractions available to the visitor would take volumes. Suffice to say that whether you are looking for leisurely family entertainment which can be found lazing the day away on the long sandy beaches or in one of the numerous fun parks such as La Bouscarrasse or Espace Grand Bleu Water Parks near Uzès and La Grande Motte.

From sports enthusiast to culture vulture: Both the climate and the landscape lend themselves to an outdoor lifestyle in this part of the South France. With the sea, rivers, mountains and endless rolling countryside never more than a short drive away and consistent sunshine throughout the spring and summer months, it is like a playground for the outdoor enthusiast.

There are a number of golf courses within easy reach or enjoy activities such as: cycling and mountain biking, walking and hiking, horse riding and pony trekking, water based activities such as sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and canoeing; climbing and caving, fishing, skiing and snow sports and airborne activities such as parachuting, ballooning and micro lighting.

About Julie Aldred

The property is owned by Emma & Raymond Millar, they are originally from Scotland and currently live in the Middle East. They have been in Dubai, UAE for 5 years. Emma works in IT and Raymond works in Oil & Gas. Emma spent her childhood summer holidays in France and it has been a dream of theirs to own a traditional French house with view of the countryside.

Julie Aldred purchased this house in 2012
Why Julie Aldred chose Uzes

With our busy lifestyle in Dubai, we were looking for a 'pied a terre' in France, where we could invite our friends and relax with good food and wine, but also have access to some of the fabulous sites and cites in this part of the Mediterranean.

'Tigh Chéilidh' or ‘The Meeting Place’ was renovated back 2009, and whilst it retains the character and eccentricities of an older property, it also has all the mod cons. The house boasts a master suite with en-suite bathroom as well as a large double and single bedroom with a bathroom to share; and there is a spacious and secluded garden, that is ideal for enjoying a good book or barbecuing. Ideally located on the outskirts of the village, there are magnificent views of the French countryside that can be enjoyed from large the roof terrace.

Garrigues-Saint Eulalie Is a charming village 10 minutes drive from the market town of Uzes and 20mins from the Pont du Gard. The village enjoys the benefits of a very good bakery with small shop and 2 restaurants, one that is within easy walking distance. There is plenty to do in the surrounding area including horse riding and visiting some of world’s most famous wineries.

All in all, it fulfils all our wishes and we hope that you will enjoy this fabulous property as much as us!
