The local town of Chalus is well equipped with amenities, and you will find a range of service industries as well as plenty of local shops, schools, medical care and supermarkets. Chalus has history and culture too, with its Lionheart connections, its street markets and lovely honey - coloured stone houses. There are several lovely restaurants and coffee shops as well as a recreational area with children's playground.
Chalus and its immediate area offers lots of sport and leisure opportunities. Limousin is known as 'Lakeland', with many beautiful lakes where you can take part in water sports, swim, sunbathe, rowing, canoeing etc.
6km away is the very famous Chateau Montbrun which is one of the most beautiful chateaux in France and open to visitors. Also nearby is the remembrance village of Oradour sur Glane, which is preserved as a living monument to those who died in the war.
Limoges, about 35km from Chalus, is the capital of porcelain and a short drive away, with the more touristy spots of Sarlat, Domme, Bergerac and Ezylat an easy day trip away.
At Bussiere Galant, which is a cycle ride or short drive away, there is an activity centre with a lake and beach for swimming. It has a toddlers' paddling area, volley ball, crazy golf, fishing, tennis and boules. It has also an adventure climb through the forest which is a huge hit with children, teenagers and indeed adults of all ages. There is also horse riding, canoeing, tennis, donkey trails, cross-country cycling, quad biking and golf locally.
