Guestbook comments from the owner

"We recently spent a very enjoyable holiday in Grenada based in this house. It is light, airy and spacious and affords panoramic views over La Sagesse Bay. The back of the house has a full width terrace overlooking the infinity pool and the terrace is reached through sliding glass doors which, when open, provide a pleasant breeze to the ground floor, which includes a well-equipped kitchen, dining and sitting areas both indoor and out.

The features of this house, which were particularly good for us, were wi-fi access, air conditioning to all areas and provision of everything needed for travelling, as we were, with small children - cot, high-chair and safety gates on all stairs.

La Sagesse was five minutes away by car where there is a lovely, secluded, child-friendly beach with sun loungers and bar/restaurant. "

What a wonderful villa. What a beautiful view.

My Wife and I have traveled to many of the islands in the Caribbean. So, we are well versed in this type of vacation. To start with, the owner called us right away after we emailed him which is a good omen. Finding out that he was a famous sportsman gave us much comfort.
Up front, we must say where Zingibar is located, you need a car. And, you will have to drive on the left. That said, you could use it for the 10 minute drive to the beautiful La Sagesse beach and restaurant below and just spend a laid-back great vacation that way or if adventurous, drive the 30 minutes to many of the island’s attractions.
This beautiful home, with the fabulous view and infinity swimming pool, is well worth it. You are secluded, away from the tourist hustle and bustle. And, Bentley comes with it! Bentley is the house manager and good friend of the owner. He will pick you up at the airport, rent you a car, give you a cellphone to use and tell you all the best places to explore on this beautiful island. He even loaned us his laptop when ours died. Most importantly, he is a wonderful person.
We were adventurous as usual and spent a lot of time exploring. We liked the IGA supermarket in town, went to Magazine Beach and ate at the very unique Aquarium Restaurant there, had cocktails at Radisson Grenada Grand on Grand Anse Beach, took the Westerhall Estate Rum Factory tour and took the Herb and Spice Garden tour in Laura. Closer to home, there is the funky restaurant/bar at the Grenada Marina just over the hill from Zingibar that we liked. We stayed 10 nights, but still could not see or do all the things we wanted to and there were times we just got delicious take-out from the La Sagesse Restaurant (bring your own plates), hung out at the house and enjoyed it and its beautiful view of the beach and the Atlantic.
We will return!

Outstanding Grenada Experience

Outstanding Grenada Experience Highlighted by a Stay at Zingiber

My husband, our 6-year-old son and I stayed for one week at Zingiber in February. While we traveled extensively in Caribbean islands, this was our first time to visit Grenada. We fully enjoyed the beautiful island; our positive experience was highlighted by our relaxing stay at Zingiber. As others have commented, the villa provides front-row view of picturesque La Sagesse Bay. Relaxing in the hummock (which we brought) on the huge terrace and enjoying the lovely ocean view was priceless.

Area:
We were absolutely happy with the La Sagesse Bay area rather than staying in the busy and touristy Southwest area. The area is filled with unspoiled natural scenery which gives a private and privileged feel. It has a relatively short drive to restaurants, grocery stores and other activity providers. Make sure to stop by local stores nearby - we enjoyed sampling fresh sugar cane at Wayne’s (only 5 min drive from the house, toward South). There we drank sugar cane juice and bought some cane vinegar. Local people are very friendly and helpful. In the evening, my son loved going for adventures finding frogs and toads just outside of the villa.

House:
The best feature of the house is its expansive 2-tiered terrace. As the place has ample outdoor furniture, that allowed us to fully enjoy life outdoors at the villa. Having an infinity pool was also a definite plus and we used it a lot. It has robust kitchen facilities - making pancakes in the mornings and preparing dinner was a fun experience (note to US travelers: this UK oven system utilizes mnemonic increments rather than a temperature setting). Wifi worked well as others noted and TV reception was good, too.

Service:
House manger, Bentley, was a great resource and he looked after us well during our stay. We rented a car at the airport. Meeting him there took away any anxiety we had for our first day on a new island. He was reachable anytime we had questions. The owner provided local cell phone for us to use during our stay - having that was very helpful for making reservations and inquiries to restaurants and activity providers. The villa's owner is prompt and responsible and it was a pleasure communicating with him before, during, and after our stay.

Acid Test:
Would we come back to this villa? Yes!

Relaxation

WE as a family group of 4 adults and an infant arrived in Grenada after sundown, we were met by the house manager, Bentley at the airport. Having no idea as to where we going it was reasurring to follow Bentley. The villa was a welcome sight and very appealing even in the dark. When the sun rose the first morning it revealed a beautiful view of the ocean, the bay and a wonderful beach. The house is very comfortable, the location great, the pretty and peaceful surroundings fantastic. We rented a vehicle and explored the island, I strongly suggest this to anyone as there are numerous sights to see and experience. The island people are friendly and welcoming, we were greeted warmly everywhere. We ate most of our breakfast meals in the house, however every meal we ate at any of the restaurants were delicious ( Thanks Bentley for the tips) starting at the beach restaurant, which is visible from the balcony. The beach at La Sagesse is good for youngsters as it is protected by the bay and reasonably shallow with sandbars. I truly recommend this rental property and hope to return again. Scott M. We arrived after sundown on Grenada and thankfully were met at the airport by Bentley the house manager. Though we didn't know where we going, Bentley led the way and we soon arrived at a very lovely and comfortable home. When the sun rose on our first morning it revealed a beautiful view of the ocean, the bay and a wonderful beach. The location is fantastic, the house is wonderful, the surroundings are very pretty and peaceful. The nearby beach restaurant serves very fresh and delightful meals as did every restaurant we ate at the entire week, thanks for the info Bentley. We as a family of 4 adults and an infant would definitely recommend this property and the beautiful island of Grenada to anyone wishing a friendly and rewarding vacation. Scott M. Zingiber is a beautifully situated house overlooking La Sagesse Bay and Nature Reserve with views of the stunning palm fringed sandy beach.

Access to the beach can be made by car (which takes about 5 minutes) or by a 15 minute stroll along the ridge road down to the bay.

The whole area offers unspoilt natural scenery with lush vegetation and hidden bays perfect for exploring or beach combing as well as birdwatching.

The beach is quiet and peaceful especially midweek and gently slopes into the sea so offers safe swimming. Now and again you can get some great waves further along the bay which are fantastic for boogie boarding and body surfing. Kayaks can be hired to explore the bay and get close to the 'whale rock.'

The bar/restaurant on the beach provides delicious simple fresh food including locally prepared soups, salads, fish, steaks burgers and creole dishes from breakfast through to dinner.

There is also a local cricket ground where support is always welcome if there is a game on.

Grenada Marina/Boatyard is only a 5 minute drive away and offers a beach bar with light meals. Its worth a visit if you are interested in looking at the huge yachts and boats being repaired or stored out of water.

Le Phare Bleu is another local restaurant (10-12mins drive) offering lunch and evening meals with a view over a boat marina. (Take your swimming gear if you are visiting in the day as you can swim out and jump in from the mast in the sea!)

Other fantastic bars and restaurants including our favourites, The Dodgy Dock at True Blue, The Aquarium, Port Louis, The Beach House, Umbrellas and La Boulangerie to name a few are slightly further afield but no more than 25 minutes by car.

As the island is only 21 miles by 12 miles nowhere is far in Grenada.

The picturesque capital of St Georges with the prettiest harbour in the Caribbean as well as a wonderful market and plenty of history and heritage is only 20 minutes away. There is a fantastic carnival parade in August.

Visit the Nutmeg Restaurant and watch the goings on in the working port or the cruise terminal for modern air conditioned duty free shopping.

Grand Anse beach is a two mile stretch of white sand beach where many of the large hotels are situated. It is only 25 minutes away.

The Island is full of wonderful places to visit including the interior rainforest and Grand Etang crater lake, swim in natural waterfalls or go river tubing and hiking. .

There are lovely old plantation houses to visit for lunch some with historic museums as well as a fascinating nutmeg factory in Gouve with all wooden machinery. 'Fish Friday,' a feast of locally cooked freshly caught fish takes place in the streets of Gouve every Friday evening.

Most of these attractions are within an hours drive of the house with only the turtles laying their eggs on Levera Beach in the north a bit further!

Exciting adventure trips can be arranged - deep sea fishing, diving and snorkelling with PADI course available, hiking in the rainforest, full Island tours to suit your own tastes, trips to other islands and even dolphin and whale watching.

Anything is possible on Grenada and all so easy to get to - just ask our very good friend and house manager, Bentley who'll do everything in his power to ensure your stay is truly memorable.
