A newly build cottage less than an hour drive from exciting Reykjavik. The cottage is located by the lake Úlfljótsvatn which is next to Thingvellir, the national park. Also close to other famous landmarks such as Gullfoss and Geysir. The cottage is 114 m2 and three stories high. On the Main floor there is a fully-equipped kitchen with a fridge/freezer, microwave, toast, oven/stove, with a dining area next to the kitchen seating up to 8. And a bathroom with a shower . Up in the sleeping loft there are 2 separate bedrooms with one queen size tempur bed and one king size bed / 2 single beds. There is one room in the basement with a queen size tempur bed. In the basement there is also a hobby room with a sky satellite TV and a good stereo/home theatre its a comfortable sofa area for relaxing, watching a movie, or listening to music on the TV, DVD and CD player. Also there is storage room in the basement with a thermostat for the hot tub. Around the cottage there is a 100 m2 porch with a BBQ and a hot tub.
The house is built very high up on a hill so i recommend 4x4 car specially during winter but if not there is also possible to park in the driveway and walk up to the house instead you get stunning panoramic mountain view there is also amazing to see the northern lights / aurora. The view is truly amazing!! The cottage is newly built so all the equipment are new. Free Wi-Fi is also included.
My name is Hrafn and this is my girlfriend Þórunn. I am 30 and she is 28 years old from Iceland.
We live in Reykjavík city. We own the house Brekkur by the lake Úlfjótsvatn,
We love staying there and so do our friends and family so we decided to put it
on Holiday rentals and offer it for rent for other people to enjoy to.
I´ll be happy to assist you in any way I can and help you to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Hrafn Gudmundsson purchased this cottage in 2010
Already had the house and was looking for a place to put it on had been looking everywhere. It was very important for us to have view over the lake so we ended up finding this place to build it on and we put it high up on a hill so it has amazing panorama mountain view over the lake.
The location is perfect and the view is even better its not far away from Reykjavík. Really close to many attractions and lots of things to do and see then the town Selfoss is 20 minutes away you can find every kind of service there so while your enjoying the nature at its best you can easily get every service needed from short distance.
Thank you, Hrafn for everything. You were so easy to work with and the property is breath-taking. Can't wait to come back to Iceland and stay there again.
I would like to say a huge thank you to Hrafn for letting my family and I make use of his wonderful cottage which is in the most perfect location for visiting all the major attractions situated in the golden circle.
Being a fellow holiday home owner I have very specific standards of a property I want to rent and we were not disappointed! I did a lot of research into the area we wanted to stay in and Harfn’s cottage ticked every box we could have wanted.
We found dealing with Harfn (the owner) very easy and he replied quickly to all our questions and made us feel at ease with the whole process of booking.
We also rented a car from the company that Harfn co owns with his brother and this was straight forward process . The car had a sat nav with the cottage address already pre-programmed and finding the cottage was easy. The car had winter snow tyres and driving in the ice and snow felt very safe indeed.
The cottage is approx 1.5 hours from KEF airport; it was a very easy and straight forward drive to do. Harfn met us at the cottage and showed us where everything was and also how to operate the all important hot tub (amazing sat in the tub on the patio in the snow)! He was so helpful he even helped us bring the bags up the drive way to the house.
The layout of the cottage was perfect spread over 3 floors. The beds were very comfortable, the bathroom was very modern and the shower was fantastic. In the basement is the lounge (with a fantastic entertainment system) and another bedroom. On the middle floor is the kitchen which had everything we needed for our self catering holiday. I also liked the cupboard that had a variety of dry groceries and cooking oils (as we forgot to buy these)!
The cottage is perfectly situated for visiting the main golden circle attractions (Thingviller, geyser, Gulfoss etc; we also drove to the southerly town of Vik. For a truly relaxing time, I would definitely recommend a trip to Fontana spa! Much less busy than the blue lagoon!
This holiday was so much different to what we would normally do, but it was amazing; part of this was due to the ease of booking the accommodation and also how we could really feel at home at the cottage.
We are now hoping to return in 2017 and we'll be contacting Harfn in the future to hopefully arrange this. Thank you again for allowing us to use your beautiful cottage!
My friends and I stayed in this wonderful cottage for 9 days. Hrafn was the most hospitable and was able to recommend places and answer any questions we had.
We stayed in this cottage for 3 nights and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect place to stay! Overlooking the lake, the surroundings are beautiful and the cottage itself has everything you need. It is in an ideal location for all the tourist attractions - we just wish we could have stayed longer! Hrafn was great, we also booked car hire through him which was ideal! He met us to help us up the hill with our luggage, was helpful with answering all our emails and again met us at the airport to collect the car. Couldn't recommend this cottage enough and will definitely be booking again!
The cottage is beautiful. It's warm, cosy, extremely clean, functional and homely. The views are breathtaking. Hrafn was friendly, helpful and very understanding when we met him at 2am to collect the keys. We would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and we would definitely book another stay there. Thanks Hrafn :)
The house is perfectly located and well equiped with good beds. The nature is great and the view overlooking the lake is stunning. It is the ideal place for trips to interesting sights like Gollfoss, Geysir and Pingviller. Walk from Hveragerdi to Reykjadalur and further and have a warm bath in the little river of Reykjadalsa. Or get up early and drive to Landmannalauger for a hike through the impressive landscape with its amazingly coloured mountains.Hrafn and Þórunn offered us the perfect place to stay, even a rainy day is not too bad lying in the hottub. We will recommend this house to everybody.
