A wonderful beach vacation

We stayed at this wonderful beach chalet the last week of July 2009.
The chalet is located on the shores of the smallest of three connecting lakes. If you want complete privacy, this is not the place, as you can see the other cottages and beaches around the lake. There are however wooded areas separating each lot and we felt like we had our own, very spacious and comfortable space. The cottage is located near the small road that goes through the area and you can see the same road across the lake. We were never nervous about our daughter running out to the road though, as the beach takes up most of the lot and is much more alluring than anything that is behind the house. In my opinion, out of the chalets around the small lake, this particular chalet has the nicest and largest beach of them all. Both the beach and the slope out into the water are gradual, making it perfect for kids. The bottom of the lake is sandy and the water is clean. We were never bothered by the neighboring small public beach. Our daughter quite enjoyed it, as it allowed her to make some new friends. Of course you hear the usual “beach noise” such as kids playing and having fun. We very much appreciated the fact that the beach was bathing in sun from the crack of dawn, which is the time when our daughter was ready to jump into the water. At the time of the year that we were there, the beach was in complete shade by 4 pm but those who still want more sun can just walk through the bush to the public beach next door. There is a nice playground just beyond the public beach. The canoe provided allowed us to go for nice excursions to the connecting lake.
The cottage was very nice, clean, and functional with recent updates; we were positively surprised by the newly renovated bathroom. There was a bit of a musty smell in the chalet, which can be expected from a cottage at a lake. No hint of any smokers having been there though, which was a definite plus for us.
The chalet is a 15 min drive from North Conway (it could take longer on a rainy day when everyone leaves the beach to go shopping…), which is a very cute little town with both quaint little boutiques and large outlets. There is a small convenience store/deli not far from the cottage but for proper grocery shopping (i.e. fresh produce, meat, fish…) you need to go to North Conway.
I definitely recommend this chalet and I would not hesitate to return if ever we decide to go to New Hampshire again for vacation.
