Puligny Montrachet House Rental Photos and Description

An intimate experience for wine lovers, real village life with an inside track..

A very spacious, old vigneron's house (sleeps either up to six or up to 10 - see below) in the very heart of wine making country, in Puligny Montrachet, near Beaune, Burgundy.

The whole property consists of two units which were originally a family house and its granny annex, separated by a very thick Burgundian stone wall, so well insulated from each other (and the cold/heat).

From Spring to Autumn (inclusive) the Main House (three double en suite bedrooms) can be rented on its own in the knowledge that you will have exclusive use of the house, the gardens and the patio/terrace areas. We will not let the Little House to anyone else if you are staying in the Main House.

If you are a larger party, there is also the potential to rent its equally spacious, completely self contained, 'Little House' (sleeps four additional guests in two double bedrooms with one shared bathroom, see the separate tab).

Both were completely renovated in 2011/12 to offer luxury accommodation, combining original features with modern facilities, including some very atypical plumbing (ie powerful 'Raindance' showers)!!

Our architect is obsessed with getting the greatest amount of natural light into a home as she can possibly manage, and she has managed this particularly well! This adds to the feeling of light and space in both properties.

See the details of the accommodation below and the photos of our lovely holiday home in Burgundy. Please note that photos of the Little House are towards the bottom of the photo gallery.

As an extra treat, we have connections with wine makers, and experts in the area who may be able to offer you, at a modest cost and as convenient for you, a completely bespoke experiences and consultations on your voyage of discovery...

They can help you to organise visits to special wineries, private wine tastings in the house accompanied by the finest local food, inside information on the best restaurants to suit all budgets, fun wine education sessions etc.

But this is your choice. You will be equally happy if you want to run under your own steam.

The main house, which we completed in early 2012 comprises:

Three spacious double bedrooms with deeply comfortable mattresses and modern décor, each with a luxury en suite shower room. Each bedroom is individually designed to reflect a season of the year in Burgundy.

A separate family bathroom, overlooking the vines, with a cast iron roll top bath and stone and marble tiling.

A large open plan, bright living room with a fully fitted American-style modern kitchen. We have designed this space with conviviality in mind so that you can cook and interact with friends at the same time or share a wine tasting at the central island. Extra little luxuries include the wine fridge and the Krups espresso coffee maker.

There is a very large private terrace just outside the front door with a large table and chairs where you can relax and have an outdoor meal, a quiet aperitif in the evening or simply watch the village life go by.

The garden is large, verdant, peaceful and totally private. It provides both sun and shady spots asyou wish. A mosaic garden table and six chairs, two deck chairs (soon to be more) and outdoor lighting are there for guests' use.

To the rear of our house is our small vineyard - the 'vininch' as we like to call it. It boasts the only red grapes in the village (those of you who are into your wine will know the reason for that!!).

There are laundry and ironing facilities, a secure storage space for your wine, and off street parking.

We have WiFi broadband and sound system and NO television! Get to know each other again instead... Or use your wireless devices to pick your own web based entertainment.

The central heating keeps it warm in winter and the very thick walls keep it cool in the summer and quiet all year round.

The Little House - completed in late 2012

The Little House (which is not so little!) is available to rent as an addition to the main house from spring to autumn. It may be available separately in winter when the gardens will not be in use, depending on circumstances. It comprises:

Two modern and spacious double bedrooms with deeply comfortable mattresses and unique décor. The rooms in this house reflect French-speaking countries, Mali, Senegal, Tunisia...

A fully up to date bathroom with a spacious and powerful 'Raindance' walk-in shower.

A large and airy through living/dining room with views over both our vineyard at the back, and the front terrace.

A separate fully fitted modern kitchen also with views over our vineyard.

What makes 10pm one of the best places to stay in the Beaune area? Comfort, conviviality and location!

What makes Puligny Montrachet one of the best places to stay in Burgundy? Wine-village life, good amenities, not choc full of tourists, some of the very best wine makers in the world, access to so many other places!

We have designed and created 10pm for ourselves, our family and our friends. We want to attract guests who will feel completely at home and appreciate the care we have put into making their stay as excellent as possible.

Please also see our listing for the Main House. The Main House has three double bedrooms all with en suite, a very large living and kitchen area an enormous terrace and enclosed private gardens. The Little House is self contained and has two double bedrooms, sleeping up to four people. Therefore, we can offer exceptional accommodation for up to 10 people in the combined property. From spring to autumn, the Little House is only available for rental together with the main house. It makes an ideal nanny and children's unit, 'granny flat' or overflow for large parties. We are a couple of travellers who pootle about between London, Catalunya and Burgundy with plans to take in a 'Grand Tour' of Europe over the next few years.

We used to run our own (very serious) business until we escaped in summer 2012. Now we want to have fun, learn as much as we can and just be ourselves.

We love France and wanted a home where we can see, hear, touch, smell and taste superb wine being made.

We have designed and created 10pm for ourselves, our friends and family and like-minded guests.

We love, food, wine, history, learning stuff, comfy seats, comfy beds, power showers, great art, great music, thoughtful literature, creating our own cuisine, entertaining, having fun and having peace and quiet in a shady garden.

We want our guests to be able to experience the magical things we love with a little more than the basic touristic experience.

For us it is the small things that make a holiday magic - having a pheasant or red squirrel visit the garden, seeing the grapes being taken to Olivier Leflaive's winery to begin the wine making process, strolling down to the bread shop in the morning to get warm croissants, walking up the road to pay homage to the great Montrachet grapes (perhaps taking a bottle and some fresh cheese with us), popping literally next door to taste Jean Chartron's complex, beautifully balanced wines... this is life!

Then, when we are feeling more energetic, we will hop into the car (or a taxi) and travel a few kilometers to experience more history, geology and Burgundian life in the many surrounding villages and small towns.

If, like us, you want to be in the centre of things but not surrounded by a heaving, noisy, smelly circus, then this is the place for you.

Peter Noble purchased this house in 2007

Comfort, conviviality, convenience...

By now you know that we like our creature comforts, so we created 10pm with luxury in mind. You can arrive, sit down and relax. Shopping can wait... Thinking too hard can wait...

Then, when you decide to stir...

If you want to experience a unique immersion in the culinary and vinicultural treasures that Burgundy has to offer, this is the place for you.

Burgundy is the home of some of the best wines in the world, red and white. Just think of the names - Montrachet, Vosne Romanee, Chambolle Musigny, Pommard. It is like a roll call of fine wines. At 10pm we are so lucky to have the three sisters of classic white wines, Puligny, Chassagne and Meursault on our very doorstep.

By merely walking down the road you will be able to visit the actual vineyards with all the history and geographical specificity they convey, and visit some of the finest winemakers in the world. Wine tastings will allow you to see the range and quality of the wines, and have fun too.

Burgundy is the home of some classic French cuisine (poulet de Bresse, Dijon mustard, Charolais beef, boeuf bourgignon, Burgundy snails, and an almost endless list of fabulous cheeses, to name but a few).

Wonderful local restaurants offer the best there is to eat, whether you want fine dining or simpler fare. Explore the food shops and street markets to find glorious seasonal produce for a picnic or to eat at home, indoors or al fresco.

Cycling and walks in the vineyards are great fun too and there are specific routes promoted according to duration and difficulty.

Then there is the great history of Burgundy that you can explore - the architecture, the way of life of the winemakers and the fun that permeates the region!

This experience is for people who want to see village life, sitting in the bistro or fine-wine bar next to the very people who make the wine, and also want the ability to spend active days without always having to get into a car.

Our house combines great comfort, friendliness and conviviality with a great location which means you are not far from anything.

10pm is only a couple of hundred metres from the very centre of Puligny Montrachet, which is steeped in history.

Our neighbours are some of the best known winemakers in the world and you can visit many of them (on foot!) to taste their creations.

And, without even having to get into your car, you can easily reach the boulangerie, the local epicerie (grocery), the fine-wine bar (caveau), four restaurants (including two Michelin starred restaurants), and Olivier Leflaive's famous wine tasting lunch.

Beaune is just 12 kilometers away and there are many more wonderful sights, tastes and experiences even nearer, such as the three Michelin starred Lameloise just a short car ride away.

Walk or cycle through the vineyards to get close to the grapes growing in those famous named plots of land.

Or use the services or our wine contacts for a bespoke programme (big or small) that will allow you to get to know special things that might otherwise pass you by.

Of course you can stay at home and take advantage of the grounds - a large lawn and our very own 'vin inch' at the back of the house.

Guests of 10pm also have exclusive access to the guest-only pages of our website which gives you little insights into the area, the cuisine and other little bits of magic.

We want our guests to have the most memorable of times and have done everything we can to help them achieve just that!

We have just returned from a relaxing and very enjoyable 5 night stay at 10PM.

The house is beautifully and thoughtfully furnished with a superbly equipped kitchen. It is maintained in immaculate condition by Monia who takes great pride in showing you around on arrival. The overwhelming feeling when you enter the house is of a welcoming and lovely home.

The small house is decorated and maintained to the same high standard as the main house and is a very cosy place to stay for two couples.

The house is perfectly situated to tour the fantastic surrounding wine country. Puligny is a small pretty village well served by restaurants, tasting rooms and a wine bar. We followed Pascal’s excellent advice and, with his assistance, visited little known vineyards and wineries. As we did not have our own transport we made good use of the services of Eric Begue who runs a very efficient taxi service.

We cooked at home on two nights, having stocked up at the market in Beaune on Saturday. The kitchen and the terraces were put to good use!

Thank you to Peter and Lucy for all the advice and assistance before we arrived and being at the end of a phone during our stay. There was a very useful information folder at the house that Peter and Lucy had put together and several books and leaflets on the surrounding areas.

A few restaurants that we visited and can recommend: the Midupi in Nolay (booking essential) and is open for Sunday lunch; Cheval Noir in Beaune; the Centre in Meursault; and L’Estaminet in Puligny. For a very special occasion we recommend Ed Em in Chassagne.

We will definitely return!

The main house and little house were perfect for 2 couples and 2 singles from San Francisco. Everyone had their own room and bathroom and the common areas were perfect for meal prep and dining together. Access to the main house and the large bathrooms worked out well for someone with limited mobility.

The welcome basket was a wonderful treat after the long drive from Paris and nothing open on a Sunday afternoon.

Puligny Montrachet was the perfect location to visit vineyards, wineries and cellars of the Cote d'Beaune. Pascal Wagner, recommended by 10 pm, spent two days with us, providing in-depth, detailed discussions about the vineyards, wines and people in the area and took us to places/locations that we would have never found on our own. We had a wonderful farewell lunch at Midupi in Nolay. Don't miss this unexpected gem for a wonderful lunch with desserts comparable to the starred restaurants. Hire Pascal if you want to learn more about wines, restaurants, and the region.

Don't miss Gran Frias and the Beaune Saturday market to see the various products and produce of the region (especially if you want to cook). Try to make a reservation at Ma Cuisine and Caves Madeleine in Beaune for great unpretentious meals. Ma Cuisine's wine list was the size of a phone directory with reasonable prices. Pascal helped us with reservations at each of these places.

Puligny Montrachet is a great small village to wander through and then take a walk to the Grand Cru vineyards of Cote d'Beaune. Also a short bike ride away if you need to find your group at the wine caveau on the corner....

We highly recommend staying at 10pm for your visit to Burgundy and hiring Pascal Wagner to enhance your experience and appreciation of the area.

Peter and Lucy were very helpful, answering all of my questions and addressing my concerns as we prepared and planned for this trip. Peter even helped with dinner reservations for us on the first evening in the house.

Owner's Response: Dear Jim, Cindy and friends,

We are delighted that you enjoyed using the Main and Little Houses together. We have found that they work really well for all sorts of combinations of guest groups (comfortably accommodating up to five couples), with two spacious living areas so you can split up a little, two kitchens five bathrooms and enough space in the Main House for everyone to cook, dine and hang out together at ease, but with enough options so you are never on top of one another.

We too love the Cote de Beaune - there is just so much to see, do and experience. And, of course, we too have spent many a happy hour (or so) at the local wine bar - so convenient when it is a mere stroll home.

Thank you for being such fab guests - we look forward to perhaps welcoming you back to 10pm in the future.

We stayed in the two bedroom smaller home. Although there were two of us, four can be totally accommodated. The decor sets a positive tone the minute one walks through the doors. Not only is the interior warm and inviting, it is totally and expertly updated. We used the kitchen much, and it is totally convenient. Puligny Montrachet is central to Burgundy. The town is meticulously maintained. We loved it and would return tomorrow if we could. The owners are totally responsive and give wonderful sightseeing guidance. The listing is totally accurate, and we are totally glad this was our VRBO pick.

Owner's Response: Dear Becky, dear Steve,

Thank you so much for your lovely review. We are absolutely delighted that you took a chance on Burgundy in February/March and loved it! And of course we are extremely delighted that you loved the house too.

We have set 10pm up for people like us who want to feel welcomed into the place they are staying and can feel like they are in a home from home. Should you decide to return one day the welcome will be just as warm!

With our best regards,

We stayed at 10PM for two weeks and from the first email from Peter and Lucy to our final day we could not have had better service. When we arrived at 10PM it was decorated for Christmas, lights outside, on the trees, poinsettia on the dining table, Christmas serviettes and so much more, all we needed to do was get the Christmas tree! They also left an amazing goodie basket filled with mince pies, Christmas chocolates, biscuits, wines...the list goes on. We have stayed in many apartments and homes over the years and have never experienced such hospitality.
The house was perfect for us, we booked the large house for a week and then the rest of the family came so we booked the little house. It meant the (adult) kids could have their privacy if they wanted to in the little house however we found they spent most of their time in the big house with us. Christmas was an amazing day, as Peter and Lucy had made sure we had all the cooking utensils we needed to make the traditional Christmas dinner and had guided us to the best places to buy the produce. They had also introduced us to Pascal who took us to interesting wineries to buy the wine for Christmas. The kitchen was spacious enough to have four people working together harmoniously and the dining table fitted the nine of us around it without any problems. Our children had never been to Burgundy and now they understand why we love it so much! They even started looking at property to buy in the area! I would definitely stay at 10PM again and although we loved the experience of having Christmas in Burgundy I wouldn't choose that time of year again as many of the restaurants and cellar doors are closed! We did manage to go to Ed Em which was great, Ma Cuisine as always was fantastic and Pascal took us to an little Auberge restaurant in the hills behind Nuits St Georges which was beautiful.
Thank you Lucy and Peter for making our Christmas one that we will always remember.

What can we say?! Thank you so very much for your wonderful review. We wanted to ensure that Christmas at 10pm was special for you and it sounds like we succeeded! And we had lots of fun in the process.

Ed Em is great and we will be seeking out ma cuisine ourselves. We are also really pleased that you found the guest-only areas of our website useful.

we have stayed at the main house before and loved it. The little house deserves a similar high rating. Although its called the little house its all relative, this is no pokey place! the lounge/diner is a great size with a lovely view over the vineyard. The kitchen is really well appointed and the owners have put a lot of thought into the finish and decoration of the rooms. So if you would like a rental that has some character rather than a sterile beige place then this is definitely for you. Read the reviews of the big house for more of our praise for this place, the owners and the location. - Just realised i left my review on the big house not the little one, so am copying it over - Sorry !

Owner's Response: Many thanks indeed for your very kind review.

Yes "Little House" is a bit of a misnomer. There is lots of space for four people and the house is completely stand alone - even having its own little patio areas. And the dining table near the huge French windows gives you that dining "al fresco" feeling even in winter.

Thank you again for your review.

Spring, Summer, Autumn, even Winter (with some insider knowledge) in Burgundy is an absolute delight with lots of things to do, see and experience.

Puligny Montrachet is in the heart of the Burgundy wine region and is famed for producing the finest white wines in the world. In fact, 10pm is next door to one of the best makers of Puligny Montrachet and other wines.

It is not an overly touristic village, so it is not noisy and hectic. But it is a working village, full of winemakers and so quite lively at times, with great local amenities.

As an optional extra, through our connections in the local wine business, you can have one or two experiences that are unique - visits to undiscovered winemakers, wine tastings at home (in our convivial open plan living room/kitchen) or in the vineyards, knowledge of local restaurants and food producers that are currently 'on form' etc.

We are blessed to have two Michelin starred restaurants within walking distance of the house, Le Montrachet in our village and Ed Em in Chassagne Montrachet, a 30 minute stroll away through the vineyards. And the village Caveau de Puligny Montrachet offers informal wine tastings of the finest selected local wines on their terrace.

Before we forget, and speaking of high class restaurants, Chagny, which is about three kilometers away, boasts one of the most famous restaurants in the world - the three starred Lameloise.

However, we must not forget that we are in France and the budget restaurants are very fine too!

But our house is also a good centre for walking and cycling in the vineyards and around. An easy ride away is Meursault, with its fabulous coloured roof tiled town hall.

Beaune is only 12 km away with its famous colourful Saturday market, the Hospices de Beaune, its beautiful architecture and its quaint, mainly pedestrianised, centre and some really interesting shopping.

Slightly further afield and well worth visiting are Chalon sur Saone (a lovely provincial town with a really good Sunday food market in the streets around the cathedral), Nolay (a small town with an historic centre and a medieval market building that must be seen), Santenay (a 'ville fleurie' with a lovely town square with a fabulous fountain, a casino and an outdoor swimming pool open in the summer months), the Cistercian Abbey of Citeaux. And of course you are just a short distance from some of the other famous names in Burgundy wine - Nuits Saint Georges, Pommard, Chambolle Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Vosne Romanee, Meursault, Chassagne Montrachet etc, which each have their own character and of course their own vignerons, many of which offer tastings.

We are still exploring the surrounding areas and constantly finding new and interesting things to see and do.

Also unique to 10pm is our website with guest-only areas which give you exclusive insights and tips which will make your stay that bit more special. What cheese to try? Which is the best charcuterie? Where is it? What is it best for? What's on in Burgundy at the moment?

All of these things make 10pm and Puligny Montrachet one of the best places to stay in Burgundy.
