PRIVATE BEACHFRONT BUNGALOW WITH POOL

Vieques Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

3 air conditioned bedrooms, 2 baths, sleeps 6

Visit our Casita, located on the tranquil island of Vieques. Our three bedroom, 2 bath home is tastefully furnished in a relaxed, comfortable island style. The property offers an array of amenities, including a pool, BBQ, washer and dryer, hammock and, of course, the beautiful blue sea a few steps from your doorstep.

Enjoying the Beach at the Cottage: Wake up in the morning and sit outside on your private patio, looking out over the waves at the islands of Culebra, Puerto Rico and on a clear day, St. Thomas, while you sip your coffee. Listen to the sounds of the surf breaking in the evening as the sun sets while you stroll in the sand looking for shells and sea glass, or lie peacefully swinging in the hammock.

Lounge by Pool: What can be more luxurious and refreshing than a dip in your own pool after a long day at the beach? Not much. Lounge in the sun, enjoy the lush tropical foliage, and maybe read a good book. Sit under the fountain and let the water splash over you. Watch the sea gulls and pelicans fly overhead and spot the iguana family that comes to feed on the hibiscus and sun on the wall. Take a night time dip and float on your back and gaze up at the stars.

Easy Living: Two of the things that our guests comment on most frequently are the great night's sleep they experience in our comfortable beds, and the luxurious sheets and towels we provide in abundance. We strive hard to make your experience the vacation you want it to be with a fully equipped kitchen (to help you prepare your fresh-caught seafood), air conditioning in all the rooms, and an outside dining area to enjoy the breeze off the ocean.

Great stay on Vieques

We (four long-time friends) had a great week at the bungalow. We were picked up at the airport by Enid of the management team which was very helpful. She pointed out key land marks and even stopped so we could buy groceries to begin our stay.

The bungalow was great - very clean and well-maintained. There were plenty of dishes and utensils, the beds were comfortable, and beach and bath towels were plentiful. Beach chairs, coolers and a grill were a bonus. A washer and dryer are on site, but the dryer was a bit temperamental and we could not get it to work at the end of our visit. The air conditioning in the bedrooms and living room was much appreciated. The raised patio was great for sundowners and star-gazing.

Every morning we took our coffee and walked out the gate directly onto the beach to hunt for shells and sea glass (the best beach on the island for this type of activity, in our opinion). We were joined by the two or three dogs who befriend the bungalow's visitors. We didn't swim at the beach in front of the bungalow because it was a bit rocky, but we swam in the pool (very nice) and also rented a car to explore the fabulous beaches that surround Vieques. Comments from previous visitors in the bungalow's guest book provided useful information about beaches, restaurants, and shopping.

We Highly recommend staying at the bungalow for those who want a comfortable, care-free, peaceful stay on Vieques.

July 9, 2013 thru July 17, 2013 our family enjoyed the vacation at Vieques, Puerto Rico. The bungalow we stayed at was very true to the description, location, layout and amenities on the website. Downtown to Isabel II was very close to the bungalow to where we were able to enjoy the town carnival and oversee the firework show from the backyard. Our kiddos really enjoyed the swimming pool and was very clean. Property manager was available to a phone call and our rental car was awaiting for us. We were also picked up at the ferry and took us to a tour around town to get familiar. It was a big plus since it was our first time to Vieques. The property was very clean which we did appreciate. Enjoyed the drive to Esperanza where we were able to enjoy all beaches in the surrounding area. A rental is a must if you really want to enjoy Vieques, Puerto Rico. I can keep on writing but so many things to say. End result, thank you very much to Mr. mrs. Gordon for giving us the opportunity for a memorable vacation. We will absolutely recommend this property to our friends and family. We are making plans to take a second trip to Vieques and we know where to stay. "Thumbs up with a 5 star rating"

Relaxation with a view!

We just enjoyed a wonderful family vacation at a Barefoot Bungalow! We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 teenagers and the house was perfect, although we spent most of our time at the beautiful Vieques beaches. Although getting to the house does take you past many other homes in disrepair, I don't think that's any different from most Caribbean Islands. We felt very safe and Mike and Gail's home was very comfortable, clean and well maintained, with a lovely yard and wonderful view of the beach, especially the view from the patio. The house is well stocked with beach and bath towels, brand new beautiful beach chairs, coolers, beach umbrella, comfortable beds and living space, dishes, utensils, and glasses. The only thing I found missing was plastic food storage containers. We did very little cooking as we ate out most nights, or picked up pizza to eat in. We traveled to Esperanza almost every night for dinner, but we did like Bieke's Bistro in Isabel II. We also picked up sandwiches on the way to the beach one afternoon from Sol Food. They were excellent! We loved the beaches, Sun Bay for the shade trees, Red, Blue, Navio, and Silver for snorkeling. The bio bay tour is a must. We tried to book the clear canoe company but they were filled so we went with Abe's and our tour guide was very good and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My husband and kids loved finding coconuts in the yard, and cutting them open to get to the white flesh and milk. Falling to sleep every night and waking every morning to the sounds and view of the ocean, along with the beautiful ocean breezes was heavenly! Overall we had a great vacation and would definitely recommend this property to friends!

Barefoot bungalow was a great spot for our family vacation. We are a family of 5, 2 adults and 3 teenagers. The size of the house was perfect, although we spent most of our time at the beautiful Vieques beaches and ate out every night. The house is well supplied with beach towels, bath towels, brand new beach chairs, coolers, beach umbrella, comfortable beds, dishes, glasses, etc. The only thing I found missing was plastic containers for food storage. The coffee maker is older and smaller, but was fine for our needs. The ride to the house does take you past many properties in disrepair, but I don't believe that this is any different from any other Caribbean Island. We felt very safe. My kids really enjoyed finding coconuts in the yard and breaking them open to get to the white flesh and milk. We went to Esperanza most nights for dinner, although we did like Bieke's Bistro in Isabel II. We enjoyed Sun Bay on a couple of days for the shade trees at this beach. We also loved Red, Navio and Silver beach. The view from the patio is wonderful and falling asleep each night and waking each morning to the sound and view of the ocean was heavenly! The sunrise and sunset from the beach is beautiful, although the beach at the house is not really geared toward swimming. It's very rocky. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and I would definitely recommend A Barefoot Bungalow to friends!

We spent a week at Barefoot Bungalow with our 6 and 8 year old. I want to give a realistic / honest review and will get to the small negatives, but overall, this is a wonderful property. It gets the "big" things right; especially, the yard and raised patio (AWESOME IDEA) overlooking the ocean with great views of Culebra and great privacy; the palm trees swaying in the full moon; the pool area; the bedrooms; the washer/dryer and beach gear; and the beach out back (great for beachcombing/sandcastleing).

The negatives: If you come here expecting perfect finishings, you will be disappointed. Vieques is, in many ways, still in the 1960s and the house reflects the difficulty of upkeep on the island. Things are a little dingy around the edges, but such is life on Vieques. The drive down the "lane" to the house might be harrowing for some; when we came, there were piles of rotting garbage in the road and many of the surrounding houses are in a state of decay with yards filled with chest high weeds. There is no garbage disposal or dishwasher. The coffee pot is poor (this made us sad, I recommend an upgrade to a good coffee pot). There is a lack of hand towels and good mats near the doors. It rained off and on for our stay, and it is impossible to keep from tracking water all over the house. We resorted to using extra beach towels (there are plenty) as mats. The pool area, while awesome, is not "integrated" very well with the backyard and ocean, so you are shuttling back and forth between the two. Also, it is not private and has a very bright street light shining directly into it. There is a house that was just finishing being renovated (?) about 20' from the pool with a balcony that looks directly in the pool. There was a family with toddlers there, staring longingly at us in the pool for most of our trip. The kitchen is fine, but I wouldn't want to cook much in it. The chef (me) is removed from all the fun in the back yard and pool and beach. The security stuff (safe and ADT) are understandable, but a bit intimidating. Not being able to run the A/C all day or open windows was sad

Vieques itself is wonderful. Bring a sense of adventure and tolerance for delays. Read tripadvisor reviews. Blue and Silver beaches were closed for our trip (sad), but Secret Beach (Pata Prieta on your map) is incredible, as is Navio. Stop at the bakery and get some sandwiches, load up the Barefoot cooler with waters and Medalla Lights and start exploring beaches.

Owner's Response: My husband I would like to respond by saying we are thankful that our guests found the house "wonderful" and that the coffee pot etc. didn't ruin their vacation. We try very hard to listen to our guest comments and do whatever we can to insure that our home is one that we would like to stay in on our vacation . (That is where we stay on our vacation, and I am always trying to find things to fix. It makes vacationing a little difficult for the family, though, since I always have a honeydo list!)) Although we do try to improve the house on a regular basis, he is correct in saying, if you want perfection, this isn't the house for you. As always, be sure to read all the reviews and make an informed decision. Gail

Casita del Sol y Mar is located just a mile east of the town of Isabel II on one of Bravos de Bostons' little known reef-fringed, sandy beaches. Just a short stroll west on the beach will lead you to the ideal sandy spot where guests can enjoy snorkeling and swimming in the warm inviting ocean. Walking to the east will take you on a relaxing stroll along the sea coast where you can search for sea glass and seashells and spot the occasional horse cooling off in the mangroves. Other activities are the shops, markets and restaurants in Isabel II. Or, the more adventurous may want to visit the bioluminescent bay, rent bikes, go kayaking, take a hike or arrange for a snorkeling, scuba diving or sports fishing expedition.
