Wonderful week in paradise!

We had a great week at the Barefoot Bungalow. The photos and listing were an accurate description of the house and yard. We were a group of 4 women and had plenty of space in the house, used the well stocked kitchen daily to prepare meals, loved being on the beach and in the pool. It got HOT during the day so access to water was critical. This is very special and unique property in that you do have immediate access to both the ocean and a pool. The beds were comfortable, fans and AC were appreciated and needed, and we were impressed by the generous supply of bath and beach towels. Also very helpful to have washer and dryer on site.
While Vieques is a small island, a car is really needed to get around, not great walking roads. I would recommend doing the bio bay tour, visiting an assortment of the gorgeous beaches on the island, heading to the panaderia for great pastries and cappucino, checking out the museum at the Fort, having a paella dinner made for you by Waldo, the Personal Chef and checking out his wife's glass art studio (Ileana), meandering around Isabelle to see all the galleries and shops, getting a meal at Bili's in Esperanza and at the Columbian food cart that's on the Malecon on the weekends.
Be warned that there are a LOT of dogs wandering around Vieques. Each household seems to have 3-6 dogs who roam the streets and yards. We had a couple neighborhood dogs who hung out in our yard - pooping on the grass, digging up sandy, shade spots, barked at night and unfortunately chewed on one of our shoes that was drying outside on the lawn. They were not aggressive but sort of sad and needy. The dogs and the wild horses (also came into the yard to much some grass) are part of the experience of Vieques, not something the property owner has control over. A small gate at the end of the driveway might help to keep 4 legged visitors out.
The property manager was very helpful in collecting us from the airport, getting us oriented, and replacing a broken beach umbrella when we contacted him about it. Everyone we encountered was so friendly and helpful - both locals and expats. We would come back again!
