When guests walk through the door into A Corner of Eden they start to relax. Immediately it is apparent that this house has stood the test of time, its beauty grows as it continues to age. Lovingly renovated bringing the best out of its Georgian roots whilst providing every luxury that you could need for the perfect country retreat. Built in the 1700’s as the wool industry brought new wealth to the area it has seen many people come and go and has got the hang of welcoming new visitors and indulging them in its cosy surroundings.
Sleeping eight in four individual bedrooms it is the perfect holiday home for family and friends who want to escape to their own little bit of history.
Off from the hall the lounge fire draws you in. The opulent sofa and armchairs too comfy for their own good entice you to make a day of it, to just chill out and every now and then stir to put another log on to the embers.
On the other side is the dining room, a large oak table resplendent in front of the biggest baronial fireplace that the room could fit. This room has seen many lavish dinner parties and we are sure will see many more!
The kitchen, or ‘back parlour’ as it was described at the turn of last century, has everything that a modern kitchen could need. The large range cooker sits in the original wide fireplace, dishwasher and fridge hide themselves away in the free standing cabinets and the butler’s sink tips it’s hat to times gone past. The champagne welcome hamper is brimming with lots of nice surprises.
The original dairy (most people’s favourite room) still has its grit stone cold shelves that keep things nicely chilled even in summer. Think of it as 250 year old eco-refrigeration. Perfect temperature for the Pinot Grigio, malt whiskey or one of the local traditional ales on offer from the Honesty Bar.
The downstairs loo gave us some challenges when we renovated as it held eighteen inches of water, a kind of internal water feature. Now completely dry and housing the central heating boiler it makes a great place for contemplation…
An arc of oak doors sits at top of the wide sweeping stairs showing that this was more than your average hill farm and they still provide the best in English craftsmanship today. Look behind four of the doors and you will find 3 doubles & 1 twin/double bedroom still with their original features but now sumptuously furnished with luxurious fabrics, antique and hand-made furniture.
The last door opens up into the two bathrooms, one with a walk in shower and in the other a bath made for two with over head rain shower. Aged wooden floors, beautiful tiles, powerful showers, candles and a jaw dropping view from the bathroom window. A little piece of heaven to escape to.
When guests reluctantly leave A Corner of Eden they are totally relaxed, at peace and ready to face the outside world again.
A champagne hamper awaits you on arrival full of local treats and home-made goodies. Choose from supermarket delivery, local farm shop supplies or catered meals to make your stay perfect.
Local Inn only 4 fields away. Walks from the door, wildlife to watch, gardens to admire, historic towns & villages to discover, explore the Lakes or the Dales for the day or simply enjoy the beauty of the barn and its surroundings.
Bring family, friends or just rent it for yourselves, whatever the season, whatever the weather, A Corner of Eden will restore life's balance.
