Scenery:
Caton is a scenic gem, yet only two miles from the M6 Junction 34. Situated in the Lune Valley, hills can be seen from all aspects,. Leave the Car and walk in the beautiful surrounding area. The old railway has been converted to a cycle track which links Caton to Lancaster, ideal for wheelchair users. Cycle hire is available in Lancaster. This is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is excellent for either relaxation or a more active break. The Lune Valley is a lovely area, painted by Turner, Caton, on the edge of the Forest of Bowland is a largely undiscovered, moorland area with breath taking views, and lovely streams. The Lakes of Cumbria, and the three peaks of the Yorkshire Dales look even more spectacular at this time of year. Golf and sport:
There are many golf courses close by ranging from the well-known Lancaster Golf Club at Ashton Hall (tel:01524 751247) to a scenic nine-hole golf course ten minutes away where you just pitch up (sorry!) and play. Honesty box in operation. Lakes courses a short drive away. Clubs (right-handed and left-handed) available to borrow. Lots of indoor sports available at the local leisure centre or at the university. Area ideal as a base for outdoor sports including walking, climbing, cycling etc. Lancaster is a cycling exhibition town, bikes for hire, or bring your own. We have dry secure garage for Bikes or Motorbikes on request. This area is frequented by motorcyclists, Heysham the Port for the Isle Of Man TT races is eight miles away. Many Premiership football clubs are now in the North -West, seven are within an hours drive, including Manchester United. The National football museum is at Preston, half an hours drive away, this is great for wet days and is wheelchair accessible.
Local events:
The view from Morecambe is lovely in the evenings, with great views over the bay to the lake district, and only 15 min away, or 40 min along cycle path.
