Your beautiful holiday home located in Las Cuevas close to the white-washed villages of both Riogordo and Comares an easy 45 minute drive from Malaga Airport. The rural location has easy access (no muddy or rocky tracks to damage your hire car), whilst still maintaining the cosy rural country feel that Andalucia has to offer - relaxation in the sunshine with both a pool and a covered hot tub, for the sole use of our guests.

Both casitas are flexible, comfy and well equipped offering 'Excellent Value' in stunning surroundings.

They are situated in the grounds of the owner's cortijo. Both being situated lower than the cortijo offering complete seclusion from the cortijo and each other. The covered hot tub is located between the two casitas and the pool area is situated away from both the cortijo and the casitas, therefore offering peace and quiet for all.

Both have their own private terraces (covered and open) and BBQ areas, as well as the shared spaces such as the pool, covered hot tub and communal gardens. The properties are south facing for optimum sunshine - there are many trees in the various gardens if a little extra shade is required.

For your convenience, there is a small almacen (store) which houses a washing machine, tumble dryer, sink, hanging area for drying and a large 'honesty' fridge freezer which we have stocked with items you may just run out of.

A FREE bountiful 'Welcome Pack' is always provided. Depending on the season, fresh fruit and vegetables from our gardens are included. If you are arriving late we are happy to get a little extra shopping in for you if needed.

The pool, hot tub and gardens are maintained every day of your holiday, usually while you sleep so as not to inconvenience you. We make every effort to ensure your privacy, whilst always being available if needed.

A great base for exploring the historic jewels and natural splendors of Andalucia including the beautiful natural parks, glorious beaches of the Mediterranean plus wonderful cities of Malaga and Seville.

Surrounded by olive groves and rural views of mountains and undulating hills. It's a rural and idyllic area suitable for walkers, bird watchers, cyclists and people who just want to relax alike.

Try one of the many bars and restaurants in the local villages to sample local wines and delicacies, the nearest being Ortega (1.5km) which is renowned for its roast lamb.

We are located in the parish of Comares, however the village of Riogordo is a little closer and easier to get to, both villages have lots to offer, Riogordo with its many bars and restaurants plus good shops and Comares too having bars and restaurants, also has the most stunning views to offer and is a great walking area.

There are large communal swimming pools open in July and August in both villages (most villages have community pools)

Malaga city centre is under an hour away, we highly recommend a visit to the 'old quarter' with its narrow streets and Juliet balconies are just stunning. The old Moorish castle (free on Sunday afternoons) and many museums are just some of the attractions the city has to offer.

The beautiful historic city of Granada is reachable by car in less than 2 hours, don't forget to book a visit to the Alhambra palace.

About Richard Slater

Who are we ??:

Myself and my wife (Sue) having moved to Spain in 2007 purchased 'Finca Comares' in early 2011 with the aim to offer 'Great Value' holidays the like of which we ourselves have enjoyed in this area for many a year.

Although we'd lived here for four years we had to wait to find our ideal spot. The main house and casita Jasmin were renovated partially by the previous owners who did some amazing work and partly ourselves, we hope to have added to the rustic, but comfortable feel. We have subsequently spent the last two years refurbishing the property to a very high standard indeed the stable, castita Oliva, is a complete rebuild from top to bottom only the original stone walls remain. Having said that, all the refurbishments have been made using traditional Spanish methods and all the properties have kept their original features.

Our children go to a local schools and actively take part in all there is to offer in the vicinity, we also have a dog, two cats and numerous feline visitors to keep us company..

We feel we can offer you local and unbiased information about the area...and are happy to share our local knowledge with our guests. Share the tranquility and culture of Axaquira... in land Costa del Sol. Our goal was to help both couples and families alike to enjoy the beautiful surroundings that this area has to offer.

We are happy to offer a taxi service and baby sitting facilities if so desired, if there is anything we can do to help you have a great holiday all you have to do is ask.

Richard Slater purchased this cottage in 2011

Why Richard Slater chose Comares

Finca Comares offers a central and rural location to visit many areas of interest such as Malaga, Granada and Seville, all within easy reach by car. Torre del Mar and Malaga offer the usual beaches with Chirangitos that serve wonderful fish dishes along with other delicacies you're sure to enjoy. El Torcal a mini grand cannon which is a stunning mountain attraction with wildlife and views to take your breath, that we can personally recommend. Natural Parks to enjoy BBQ's (Oct to May only) and nature at its best. There are local restaurants which serve coffees, beers, wines and spirts most of the day. Best of all the casita can be your retreat for an evening watching the sun set with a glass of wine, a cool beer or even a nice cup of tea....

What makes this cottage unique

This area is very beautiful, rolling hills and mountains that dip down to the azure coloured sea. Little white-washed cottages with drying beds for the moscatel grapes dot the countryside. The hillsides are covered with vines, almonds, olives, avocados and mangoes. Spring brings multitudes of wild flowers to Andalucia and wildlife from eagles to chameleons is varied and colourful.

Here you have the advantage of being in the middle of the countryside, surrounded by beautiful mountains, yet only 35 minutes from the beach, shops and the night-life on the Costa del Sol.

Riogordo and Benamagosa :

Offers all the local amenities of banks, shops, medical centre, pharmacy, tobacconist, post office and places to eat - tapa, raciones or 'menu del dia'. Market day is on Wednesday morning where you can see local produce and maybe grab a bargain.

Comares village has a doctor’s surgery, a chemist, a tobacconist, a post office and a very good all in one shop selling everything you may need.. Market day is on Saturday. Several bars/cafes offer very good ‘menu del dia’. The very narrow streets are intriguing, as you can follow the ceramic footprints for a tour round the historic fortified village that dates back to the 3rd century BC. Don’t be surprised to see a donkey watching you from a doorway! The best views are frequently enjoyed by the dead, so take the opportunity and go up to the cemetery and take in the panoramic sights.

Malaga city's old quarter is very beautiful and has fantastic restaurants and tapas bars. Malaga’s Santa Semana Easter festival is breathtaking and the ten day August Festival is world renowned.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a beautiful setting, sitting in the hot tub with such a fantastic view, breakfast on the patio etc. The accommodation was lovely and very toasty and cosy with the log burner alight (It's a little chilly in the evenings in November). Rich was helpful and offered any help we needed, although we didn't see him a lot as we were out and about so all felt tranquil and peaceful. The roads were very peaceful which made getting around simpler and there are lots of fab and interesting places within easy reach.

Thanks from Louise and Steve.

Owner's Response: Glad you both liked it Louise, yes the little log burner does throw out some heat doesn't it. We're happy you both had a calm and relaxing time.

Lovely casita with everything you need. Very cosy.

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed 7 comfortable weeks at Casita Jasmin in October/November 2014. When we arrived the weather was superb so we had both patio doors open allowing air to circulate freely keeping the casita nice and cool. Towards the end of our stay the weather in the evenings turned cold but the wood burner kept us toasty warm.

The walk-in shower was great, the bed comfy and the terrace outside afforded us great views towards Comares, the mountain-top village.

There are great walks to enjoy. Riogordo is the nearest village and provides all you need for grocery shopping and bars to enjoy food and drink. The locals are very friendly and helpful.

Romantic stay in Andalusia

  • 4 of 5

The finca has all the comfort we needed to have a holiday that allowed us to charge-up our batteries. It was clean and tidy.

The owners Rich and Susan were most kind and friendly. They did all they could to make our holiday problemless.

From the finca we had a perfect base to visit the surrounding nature, culture and restaurants.

If you are looking for a quit and calm holiday: Finca Comares is ideal.

We enjoyed our stay and we recommend the finca to everyone who likes rough nature.

We want to thank Rich and Susan again for all assistance.

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

What a great place to stay and holiday!

My wife and I have never been to this region of Spain before and it’s safe to say that we were both a little nervous about staying so far away from a major city. But, our nervousness was completely unfounded and we loved every minute of our relaxing break.

We stayed in Casita Jasmin which is very well equipped with everything you need on your holiday. On arrival we were greeted very warmly by Richard & Sue and they had even gone to the trouble of providing a ‘welcome pack’ with a few essentials like water, bread and most importantly – wine!

The Casita was very clean throughout and it was a blessing to have the little log burner which we used on the chilly nights. There is a BBQ in the garden should you wish to use it and also a large separate store room which included a washing machine and tumble dryer. In the store room there is also a fridge/freezer stocked with emergency food and drink items to purchase which we thought was very thoughtful. There is plenty of garden furniture for lounging the day away in the sun and the Casita also has a great WiFi connection. Richard was always available to answer any questions, whether it was about the Casita or the surrounding area and was also very considerate in ensuring you have maximum privacy.

The hot tub was brilliant! Just to sit and relax whilst soaking in the incredible view was something else. We couldn’t take advantage of the pool just with it being too cold still, but that will just spur us on to return at a later date in the year when the weather is warmer.

Hiring a car is a must. The Casita is 40-45 mins away from the airport and you really should visit some of the surrounding villages where you can sit and enjoy a local Spanish beer and order ‘menu del dia’. Everywhere we ate and drank was very reasonably priced and even with our limited Spanish, we managed to do very well! If you only do one thing whilst you are here, visit Comares. It is a truly stunning little village sitting on top of a mountain which you can actually see from the Casita. Riogordo is only 4 miles away, so it is very useful for buying your food and drink items from the local shop and everyone is very friendly. We also took a drive down to the caves in Nerja which were incredibly fascinating and well worth the trip.

In summary - great location and great accommodation! Cannot wait to return!

Thank you very much Richard & Sue!

Owner's Response: Ian & Hannah, it was lovely to meet you both, how fortunate you were to catch each other crossing the Irish sea. Your kind words are much appreciated, it is what we do and our guests are why we do it. All the best for the future. We look forward to welcoming the "three" of you some time in the future.

Perfect Setting

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in Casita Olivia for two weeks In February 2014. Had a lovely 40 minute drive up through the countryside from the airport, beautiful part of the country, along the windy road edged with olive and almond trees and outlined with white washed houses scattered around. The casitas are placed with spectacular views across the mountains which you look out on to first thing in the morning, or when sitting out on the patio having a meal. The casita is very comfortable, with everything that you need to cook a meal in. The wood burner gave some welcomed heat during the evenings in February and soon warmed everything up very quickly. Richard always made sure there was plenty of wood for the fire, and that we never went without anything. The bed was just like being at home; warm and comfy with a lovely hot shower conveniently place. Lovely big settee to lounge on with Wi-Fi when you needed it. Outside we had plenty of garden furniture to lounge on with BBQ for our own personal use. There is a washing machine and drier for use should you need it. We never felt looked on and were left to our own when we wanted to but equally if we needed anything or information, Richard was only to willing and helpful. The hot tub on a starry evening was a real treat, and something to be tried, it was a relaxing experience and only added to an already happy holiday. There are plenty of nearby attractions to visit, and the coast is only a short, quiet drive away. There is a shop in the next village of RioGordo which stocks a huge variety of stock, with many British items if you need. Least of all we always enjoyed our welcome from Sunny, Richard and Sue’s dog, she always had a welcome wag of her tail for us and likes to say hello. We had a fabulous holiday, went home very relaxed and happy after enjoying a wonderful experience. Thank you very much, we hope you will continue to be happy and busy and enjoy your life in Spain.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your kind words, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I enjoyed our little chats when we passed each other whilst loading the wood store or in the parking area. We look forward to hearing about your Spanish adventure in the future. All the best Rich and Sue

A mountain view to die for (from your own Hot Tub)

  • 5 of 5

We arrived to a warm welcome from Rich and Sue, lovely people who can't do enough for you, but also give you solitude, they understand it's your holiday.

The property is well equipped, the wood burner kept us warm as did the hot tub with the views to die for! Everything is included in the price - it is very good value for money.

The nearest bar/restaurant is a mile away but the speciality roast whole leg of lamb recommended by Rich was simply incredible. booking required 24hrs in advance - Rich will do it for you. Beer at 2€ a pint, and good rioja 7€ in the restaurant seal the deal!

A car is a must, the mountains and villages are the Spain that we wanted to see - we're not the sunbed types.

If you want to get away from the rat race, see beautiful Spain, from a comfortable base - this is the property for you.
