This secluded and classic completely non-generic home in the Four Corners is situated uniquely between the southern Rocky Mountains (Little Switzerland) and the wondrous Canyon country of the American West. Mesa Verde centers around nine national parks or monuments. If not Dollywood, see as day or overnight trips Monument Valley, Canyon de Chelly, Chaco Canyon, Arches, Canyon lands, Hovenweep, the Ute Mountain, Ute Tribal Park, Black Canyon of the Gunnison and the new Canyon of the Ancients. Ski Telluride and/or Purgatory (Durango) after a scenic 60-mile drive. Airport pickups and four wheel drive available locally. At 7000 feet of elevation on twelve private acres (surrounded by millions) the home has 180 degree sky views w/ Mesa Verde (as seen from the patio in the additional photo link), the silver La Plata Mountains, and the Sleeping Ute Mountain, a landmark for ancient peoples going home. It is filled with rare antiques and museum quality Indian craft.

Close to world heritage sites in archaeology and dramatically different parks in geology, we have all types of local activities: fly cast wild streams, canoe or raft the Dolores River; boat, fish, water ski and swim at nearby McPhee (a mile to the 2nd largest reservoir in CO). Ride the Durango-Silverton Narrow Gauge train or horseback the haunts of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Jeep through miners ghost towns. Golf, select shop, and gamble at the Ute Mountain Indian casino. Dine at fine restaurants and stargaze around a flickering outdoor fire.

This cozy rustic cedar home has a first floor of honey-plank wood floors. A bank of seventeen large windows face south right at the World Heritage Site Mesa Verde, providing passive-solar heating and a remarkable unobstructed open feel for being outside even while inside. You can't miss the wide variety of animals and birds that live on the property any more than the fantastic rainbows and sunsets and crystal-clear night sky. The low humidity makes one feel crisp and clean, and so sharply articulates the brilliant layering of clouds and rocks. Eat tranquil breakfasts in the greenhouse watching for eagles and elk as deer and a dozen hummingbirds begin their daily routines.
