Photos and Description of the Lubec vacation house rental
2 bedrooms, 2 day beds, 2 full baths, sleeps 4 - 6

This former lightkeeper's home beside the sea retains its original tin ceilings, stained glass windows, oak wood work, and brass fixtures. The living room has TV/VCR/DVD, books, and plenty of board games to keep the family entertained. If you prefer a quiet evening spent in period style, you can slip into the adjoining parlor and relax on the mahogany daybed in front of the Victorian fireplace.

The kitchen has been updated and offers all modern conveniences including dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and even a Cuisinart, yet the old charm has been preserved in the original wood floor, tin ceiling, and cupboards. The first floor also has a porch/sunroom with day bed and full bath.

Upstairs, two large bedrooms provide a queen and full-size bed. The spacious full bath upstairs has been remodeled to accommodate a washer and dryer and modern bath fixtures. The outdoor patio area has a gas grill, picnic table, and lounge chairs. Private path to sandy beach & Lubec Sand Bar.

Sandy Beach & Ocean Views: A walking path down to the water's edge and stairs onto the shore provide easy access to the beach. Walking path is lined with trees, grasses, beach roses, and wildflowers. 180 degree views out to sea. Eagles often perch just below the stairs to the water and seals swim by looking for food and fun. Beach provides sandy areas for walking and collecting sea glass, rocky ledges for sunning, and tide pools for exploring.

Comfort, Comfort Comfort!: The Lubec Victorian is an antique beauty, but she is also incredibly comfortable and functional. The kitchen has a gourmet gas stove, spacious French Door refrigerator, quiet dishwasher, and Cuisinart cookware. You will find everything you need -- blender, food processor, stand mixer, coffee grinder, garlic press, and every kitchen gadget and cooking implement you could want. In the living room, you can kick back in the leather reclining love seat or stretch out on the full sofa while watching the flat screen TV or listening to music. The beds are a dream -- high end memory foam with quality 100% cotton bedding and down comforters. Yes, even the day beds have incredible mattresses, quality bedding, and down comforters! Each bedroom has a phone and the master bedroom has a TV. Outside you will find a picnic table, oversized reclining deck chairs, sling chairs with carry cases to take down to the beach, and both a gas and charcoal grill. You will not want for anything at the Victorian!

The Victorian now has an automatic, full house, back-up power system. Stay warm, cook, watch TV, bathe, use your computer, do laundry, keep on going whenever the power goes out. Your comfort and safety are top priority at The Victorian.

Lubec is about as 'Down East' as you can get. It is the easternmost town in the U.S. and home to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Whales, porpoises, eagles, osprey, moose and bear inhabit the region. Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine shoreline. In Lubec you will find sandy beaches (a rarity this far Down East), bold coastal cliffs, and wildflower meadows.

The Lubec area is host to three state parks, four lighthouses, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well-maintained hiking trails. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up close from the water, as do local kayak and canoe rental facilities and many public boat ramps. There is a golf course and fresh water swimming near by. You'll find it all here: rich history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find pollution, crowds, traffic jams, or glitzy souvenir shops.

Other Activities: numerous lighthouses, state parks, nature preserves and hiking trails. Whale watch, wind jammer, and nature tours.

Great Vacation

My husband and I have been to Lubec many times. This was the cleanest house we have ever rented. The kitchen is very well equipped. The bed was comfortable. The house is filled with many interesting things to look at. Jody has an amazing collection of sea glass displayed around the house. The location is great. The beach is a short stroll down a boardwalk. We enjoyed our week at this house and would highly recommend it anyone looking for a peaceful and comfortable vacation. Our favorite restaurants are Uncle Kippy's and Family Fisheries (Campobello Island). I attended a yoga class at The Inn at the Wharf. We love Lubec and plan to return again next year. Jody is easy to contact and responds quickly to your needs.

Dear Jody,

We had an absolutely wonderful stay this week. The cottage was thoroughly accommodating, including the fully loaded kitchen, which we made use of for many memorable sea food meals. The view of the water and the scenery in the bay was totally mesmerizing. Thanks so much for sharing your house with us! We hope to return!

Wonderful week in Lubec

We just spent the most wonderful week long vacation in Lubec. And this house was perfect for our stay. You will not want for a thing. It's all there. The kitchen is so well equipped and the house is kept in perfect condition. So clean and comfortable. My compliments to the cleaning staff. We even had two lobster bakes and every thing you need is there.
We started our first day with an early morning sunrise on the beach (4:40 AM) Are you kidding me?! But it was so well worth it. There is a lovely walk to the beach along a flowery path. We made this trip many times to catch the tides and also to make a fire ring at night. The kids loved collecting sea glass. We just loved the peacefulness of sitting or walking along the shoreline. We made many trips to Campobella. You must see the FDR summer home and take advantage of the many hikes in this very unspoiled park. But watch the tides because you can only hike to the East Quoddy light house at low tide. One of the best hikes, however is just minutes away at the West Quoddy lighthouse. The views are spectacular. Whether you want to go out for dinner or stay home and do some grilling it's all there for you at this exceptional house in Lubec Maine.

charming, relaxing home

We are a bit prejudiced because we own a place in Lubec, but elected to rent the Victorian on this trip. It was wonderful--everything you could imagine to make you feel at home--quite possibly even better beds! The beach there is wonderful, with a great view to Grand Manan and beyond. It is convenient to Campobello Island (NB), the town of Lubec, West Quoddy Head light, hiking trails, etc. Jody was great in working with us on our schedule (which seemed to change every day) and has the most amazing beach glass collection! It was mid-October, so we spoiled ourselves--just three of us. There is plenty of room there, though, for a larger family or two to be comfortable without feeling crowded. The access to a landline in the land of limited cell phone service was a major convenience. If you have a rainy day, terrific books!

We very much enjoyed our stay at the Victorian for our 20th anniversary with another couple. The house is quaint but more than enough room for our two couples. The kitchen was more more ample for our home-cooked lobster feast. Since we were only 5 minutes away from West Quoddy lighthouse, we ventured out a couple of mornings to be the first folks in America to see the sunrise! It was spectacular. Touring the local area was excellent with easy excursions to NB, Canada. The whale watching and kayaking was lots of fun as well.
