Photos and Description of the Lubec vacation house rental
2 bedrooms, 2 day beds, 2 full baths, sleeps 4 - 6

This former lightkeeper's home beside the sea retains its original tin ceilings, stained glass windows, oak wood work, and brass fixtures. The living room has TV/VCR/DVD, books, and plenty of board games to keep the family entertained. If you prefer a quiet evening spent in period style, you can slip into the adjoining parlor and relax on the mahogany daybed in front of the Victorian fireplace.

The kitchen has been updated and offers all modern conveniences including dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and even a Cuisinart, yet the old charm has been preserved in the original wood floor, tin ceiling, and cupboards. The first floor also has a porch/sunroom with day bed and full bath.

Upstairs, two large bedrooms provide a queen and full-size bed. The spacious full bath upstairs has been remodeled to accommodate a washer and dryer and modern bath fixtures. The outdoor patio area has a gas grill, picnic table, and lounge chairs. Private path to sandy beach & Lubec Sand Bar.

Lubec is about as 'Down East' as you can get. It is the easternmost town in the U.S. and home to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Whales, porpoises, eagles, osprey, moose and bear inhabit the region. Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine shoreline. In Lubec you will find sandy beaches (a rarity this far Down East), bold coastal cliffs, and wildflower meadows.

The Lubec area is host to three state parks, four lighthouses, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well-maintained hiking trails. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up close from the water, as do local kayak and canoe rental facilities and many public boat ramps. There is a golf course and fresh water swimming near by. You'll find it all here: rich history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find pollution, crowds, traffic jams, or glitzy souvenir shops.

charming, relaxing home

Review Submitted: November 5, 2010 Date of Stay: October 2009
We are a bit prejudiced because we own a place in Lubec, but elected to rent the Victorian on this trip. It was wonderful--everything you could imagine to make you feel at home--quite possibly even better beds! The beach there is wonderful, with a great view to Grand Manan and beyond. It is convenient to Campobello Island (NB), the town of Lubec, West Quoddy Head light, hiking trails, etc. Jody was great in working with us on our schedule (which seemed to change every day) and has the most amazing beach glass collection! It was mid-October, so we spoiled ourselves--just three of us. There is plenty of room there, though, for a larger family or two to be comfortable without feeling crowded. The access to a landline in the land of limited cell phone service was a major convenience. If you have a rainy day, terrific books!

Beautiful home -- great location!

Review Submitted: October 22, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2010
We very much enjoyed our stay at the Victorian for our 20th anniversary with another couple. The house is quaint but more than enough room for our two couples. The kitchen was more more ample for our home-cooked lobster feast. Since we were only 5 minutes away from West Quoddy lighthouse, we ventured out a couple of mornings to be the first folks in America to see the sunrise! It was spectacular. Touring the local area was excellent with easy excursions to NB, Canada. The whale watching and kayaking was lots of fun as well.

Beautiful house in a beautiful place

Review Submitted: August 20, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2010
Our family ( 4 adults, 1 child ) were fortunate to spend an idyllic week in this gorgeous and superbly maintained house in beautiful Lubec, Maine. The photos you see are an excellent way to see the house before you arrive because they are absolutely true to what you are going to experience. Nothing has been left to chance, every need and indeed want has been foreseen and taken care of. The interior of the house is very well appointed and comfortable and the beds are incredibly comfortable. We appreciated having linens and towels provided and like everything else in the house they are top of the line! The beach is wonderful and we spent hours there enjoying the changing scenery as the tide ebbed and flowed. The tides are quite amazing, an attraction on their own. We enjoyed the house and beach immensely, but venture down to Lubec and watch the seals in the narrows and enjoy some soft serve ice cream - 24 flavors! Bayside chocolates is too good to miss and sample some Quoddy sea salt at the shops. Take the water taxi to Eastport and enjoy the shops and waterfront there. The taxi captain is very accomodating and he took his time with us so we could see Minke whales on the way. Campobello island is lovely and Roosevelt's cottage is pristine, probably the best cared-for property I've ever seen. We also went whale watching from Campobello and it was fabulous, we saw finback whales feeding and of course more seals and porpoise. West Quoddy lighthouse is beautiful and the trail along the coast is worth it for the views alone. There is a good gift shop near the lighthouse aptly named West Quoddy gifts and a convenient post office right in Lubec for your postcards. Lyon's IGA was fine for the cooking we wanted to do and I must recommend the Family Fisheries restaurant on Campobello Island. Next time we'd like to stay longer and explore more of New Brunswick yet still have time to relax and enjoy this beautiful property in this equally beautiful place.

Reconnect & Relax In Cozy Style!

Review Submitted: August 4, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
The Lubec Victorian is one of the nicest places we have stayed as a family! It was perfect for our three boys and our little dog. We spent hours combing the beach for treasures, sight-seeing and hiking, and the WiFi and cable were there to keep everyone entertained & happy during the down times! I loved just sitting on the patio sipping my wine and reading a good book. The boys played football and frisbee in the big yard and my husband cooked up a storm in the wonderfully equipped gourmet kitchen! The house is immaculate and full of interesting things to read & admire. The linens are top of the line and the house is cozy yet roomy with space for togetherness or alone time too! The brass bed, collections of sea glass, beach roses and the gorgeous sunrise made for a truly relaxing and memorable vacation. The Victorian is really a wonderful place to reconnect with family and just hang out and enjoy eachother! (And if you get a chance to go up North Lubec Rd., visit the Willow Wind Gift Shop, I found some lovely gifts there to bring home to family members.) Jody has set up the house perfectly with lots of great info on everything and helpful directions. The house is very enviroment-friendly but offers every amenity and addresses all your needs. A truly wonderful week!

A Week in Lubec

Review Submitted: July 12, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2010
We have just returned from our stay in the South Lubec Victorian cottage! It was one of the best weeks of my life! The house was so quaint and comfortable- exactly like the photographs. The path to the ocean was charming, too. We spent lots of time on the beach gathering rounded stones, sea urchins, shells, and sea glass. I hope to return to Lubec, Campobello Island , and the Lubec VIctorian next year. It was home for us!
