Photos and Description of the Lubec vacation house rental 2 bedrooms, 2 day beds, 2 full baths, sleeps 4 - 6

The house retains many of its original Victorian features: tin ceilings, stained glass windows, beautiful wood work, and brass hardware. The living room has TV/VCR/DVD, books, and plenty of board games to keep the family entertained. If you prefer a quiet evening spent in period style, you can slip into the adjoining parlor and relax on the mahogany daybed in front of the Victorian fireplace. The kitchen has been updated and offers all modern conveniences including dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and even a Cuisinart, yet the old charm has been preserved in the original wood floor, tin ceiling, and cupboards. The first floor also has a porch/sunroom with day bed and full bath. Upstairs, two large bedrooms provide a queen and full-size bed. The spacious full bath upstairs has been remodeled to accommodate a washer and dryer and modern bath fixtures. The outdoor patio area has a gas grill, picnic table, and lounge chairs. Access to sandy beach and Lubec Sand Bar Preserve.

Lubec is about as 'Down East' as you can get. It is the easternmost town in the U.S. and home to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse. Whales, porpoises, eagles, osprey, moose and bear inhabit the region. Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine shoreline. In Lubec you will find sandy beaches (a rarity this far Down East), bold coastal cliffs, and wildflower meadows. The Lubec area is host to three state parks, four lighthouses, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well-maintained hiking trails. Local whale, wildlife, and puffin tours offer the chance to observe nature up close from the water, as do local kayak and canoe rental facilities and many public boat ramps. There is a golf course and fresh water swimming near by. You'll find it all here: rich history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find pollution, crowds, traffic jams, or glitzy souvenir shops.

First trip to Maine

SandiRN Macon, Georgia, USA
Review Submitted: May 10, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
I wanted to go to Maine on vacation for years. I finally talked my cousin into joining me and with her daughter, friend, and my nephew in tow, we headed up from Georgia. This was my favorite trip ever taken. The Victorian is exquisitely charming. With our first step out of the car, the wonderful sweet smelling air gave us a sense of relaxation and serenity. The kids had a great time playing along the beach looking for critters in the tide pools and looking for sea glass. We used the house as a base of operation for traveling to Canada and areas all around the coastline. We went to nearby Eastport for a whale watching tour on a schooner. We even saw seals from our own beach. The woman at the lighthouse gift shop is fabulous and being local, a fount of good information. We wandered the small town of Lubec for hours. The restaurants are simple and laid back, but the food was wonderful at all of them.
The owner reccomends shopping at a store on the way to the town, but we found that the Lubec store was perfectly adequate. The house was great for cooking our own food. This gave us more time to just be lazy and unwind. The house was very clean and had every amenity we could ever want.
Oh and I can't fail to mention, the first night we spent at the house, someone looked out the door to the field across the street and discovered an amazing phenomenon... the whole field was covered in fireflies. All of us wandered across the street to walk among them and it was like being in a field of fairies. We have these in Georgia, but I have never seen anything like it. It was the most amazing thing.
I highly reccomend staying in the Victorian. It is a dream vacation for people needing to unwind and recharge. If you have time, get a burn permit and have a bonfire on the beach. It is great fun and the man who gives the permits is a super nice guy. Visit Eastport and look at the quaint harbor. Take a whale watching excursion. Visit the Campobello lighthouse and walk on the ocean floor (a little strenous climbing and wear safe walking gear as the area is a little slippery). Visit the mustard grinding factory along the way to Eastport. It is supposedly the only one left in US. If you like pottery, Clay of Fundy is cool to see and the owner is great with kids. Machias is a neat side trip. Lots to see and do in the area, or just sit beachside and relax. Either way, you will have a great trip.

A great September in Maine

Mike & Barb Florida
Review Submitted: March 27, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
My husband and I loved staying at the Victorian during our vacation in September 2006. The house caught my eye while looking for vacation rentals on the internet. We were planning to take our camper from FL to Maine but the gas prices started climbing so we looked for a house to rent and flew instead. The location was great and the home itself had everything to keep us comfortable when we weren't out enjoying the countryside of Maine or traveling in Canada. There is a lot to do in the area plus it is such a relaxing place to be. It is quiet and peaceful. I spent several afternoons sleeping on the daybed on the back porch or reading there. The fireplace was nice and walking down to the water was relaxing. Lots of pictures of sunrises. There is a great state park right down the road that has a light house and wonderful hiking trail. If you are looking for a relaxing get away, where you can explore the countryside or small towns around Maine, and eat the biggest lobster and best chocolate around, I recommend the Victorian for your vacation.

Step Back in Time

Pam H. Topsham, Maine
Review Submitted: March 24, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
A visit to Lubec is like stepping back to a gentler and less pressured time. And the Lubec Victorian is the perfect place from which to enjoy all that Downeast Maine has to offer (including very close proximity to the Quoddy Light and Campobello Island). Nineteenth century charm abounds throughout the home, which also offers modern baths, kitchen, laundry facilities, cable, etc. A lovely path leads to the ocean which, at low tide, is a beachcomber's paradise. I was fortunate enough to discover this vacation retreat two years ago and raved about it so much that friends from New Jersey will be joining me there this June!

Come here for your Honeymoon

Usguys bethlehem,nh,usa
Review Submitted: February 17, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
If your aim is to get away from it all, relax, enjoy the outdoors, cook in a
well equipped kitchen, relax in a beautiful two story victorian house with beautiful
woodwork, including a staircase that ia truly a work of art, then this is the place for
you. If you bring all your own food, you never need to leave the property by car. There's
great walking in every direction, on land and on sand....miles and miles of serenity and
the wondrous smell of the salty ocean. The house is very well maintained, and is always
very very clean. We have been coming to the Victorian for 3 consecutive years, and will
continue to do so. This is a truly wonderful property and we are lucky that Jodi has done
such a good job with it.
I've never been an ocean person, but I love it here...and need I mention that the air is
absolutely exquisite!!
We hope this is helpful to others that might be wondering what the Victorian is all
about.

ps....The Victorian has state of the art beds covered with really nice linens. No more crappy mattresses!! These here are beds with memory foam toppers and they are all excellent all over the house!! Enjoy.
pps....and if you really want to watch tv, there is a beautiful flatscreen widescreen tv with cable and a dvd player.
We highly reccomend the Victorian.

A Little Heaven on Earth

Debra & Michael Rocky Mountains Colorado
Review Submitted: February 16, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2008
Located in one of the most beautiful places on earth, the Lubec Victorian is the ideal place to stay.
The house feels like home--- full of light, fresh air and quiet. It's furnished with all the amenities, but they dont impose on the atmosphere. We usually take several day-trips to Canada and down the coast, but our return in the evening feels like "coming home" in all the best ways. Jody renovated this great old house and through some sort of magic has made it feel like a real home, cozy, friendly, comfy--definitely not like staying in a mass-produced hotel! One nearly always has the beach, accessed down a flowered path to the ocean, all to themselves. Some of the best beachcombing around. Plenty of gear for a big lobster bake, special amenities for dogs and kids, short trip to many walks in the woods, water trips, historical sites, and an unfettered view of all the stars in the sky---but you never have to bump elbows with any tourists.

We always go home refreshed, relaxed and recharged, wishing we could stay forever. We've rented houses in other places, but none compare to this one! Stay once and you'll keep coming back, too. We came originally to see where my great-grandparents lived and just fell in love! On the car trip up from Portland, at night--I rolled down my window and was blasted with the perfume of blueberries. In the fall, their leaves are deep red, just beautiful. The neighboring area is full of picturesque spots wherever you look. Be sure to take your best camera; you wont lack for subject matter.
Jody provides lots of ideas and info on where to go, where to shop and eat, what to see, and a great library on the local sites and history, maritime history, and lots of novels, too, if you just want to cozy up and read. Couldnt recommend it more!
