The location can't be beat. It's minutes (by car) from Reid State Park and the Maine Maritime Museum in Bath and about an hour's drive to the Boothbay & Camden areas. There are lots of opportunities for hiking, canoeing & kayaking, boat tours (everything from sailing to whale watching in a variety of coastal towns), museums and historical sights and of course, Reid and Popham Beaches. The cabins are comfortable with a nice balance of rusticity and convenience. We cooked many meals for a family of five at the cabin. Pans, dishes, utensils, etc. were available and in good condition. (Although with a great lobster pound just minutes away, it was tempting not to eat out every night!) It does tend to be humid, so bring a few extra towels and a spare bathmat. I also brought a drying rack this year, so we could dry swimsuits and towels indoors rather than outside. The property has a nice trail through the woods, a long gravel driveway for biking and walking and a boat dock with canoe/ kayaks rentals available. Canoeing a tidal river is a bit of an adventure, so be aware of the tide changes! My kids are between 7 and 10, and they really enjoyed the surroundings. It can be buggy, but we used spray and came home with very few bug bites. We spotted eagles along the Back River along with herons, egrets and many other birds. The screened-in porch is a great place to relax and listen to/ watch for birds. The property is well maintained, and problems are addressed quickly if they happen to come up. We've stayed here four times over the past five years, in three different cabins. We simply love it here, and would highly recommend it to others!
