Isla Canela is the beach resort of the picturesque white Andalusian town of Ayamonte, originally a traditional Spanish fishing village with a market, old town and plazas. The prized Atlantic 'golden' sandy and clean beaches of Isla Canela can be accessed by a beautiful road causeway, with cycle path, through protected salt Marismas. The sea is very safe for children, you can walk for miles along the beach, there are great seafood restaurants and yacht marinas.
Isla Canela is in the Huelva district of Andalucia on the Costa de la Luz (Spanish Algarve) , 45 mins from Faro and 1hr from Seville, towns served by airlines such as EasyJet, Monarch, MyTravel, Ryanair, Jet2 and BA. Ayamonte is located by the Rio Guadiana which is a wide, tidal and exceptionally beautiful river. It separates Spain from the Portuguese Algarve; you can hire boats to explore it for miles. A quaint ferry can be taken to Portuguese Vila Real de San Antonio with its shopping streets and market.
Other Activities: Kite-surfing
Golf: There are four golf courses at a distance of less than 20 mins by car. They are all very different. Isla Canela Golf Course wends its way through beautiful coastal marismas and is 5 mins from Villa Canela. It has a picturesque restaurant, bar and competition bowling greens. Costa Esuri golf is on the east bank of the Guadiana River, good for a game, but without many surrounding services. Then just over the border are two Portuguese courses, Castro Marim near the old castle and the Jack Nicklaus course of Monte Rei, well known and a world-class golf destination. By staying at the beautiful beach of Isla Canela you really can combine exciting golf, including competitions, with a beach holiday. I have a large secure basement for storing golf bags/trolleys etc adjacent to the gated car parking area by the house. Also, I have negotiated REDUCED GREEN FEES for my clients.
At Monte Rei Jack Nicklaus designed his first of two 'Signature' Golf Courses in Portugal. There is highly qualified staff to ensure top quality playing surfaces, instruction and catering. I understand there is an award-winning Chef, Jaime Perez, in the Fine Dining Restaurant, 'Vistas'. The dining terraces offer superb views of the sea and mountains.
