This is a uniquely beautiful property: Finding a home with historic character and located in a beautiful setting is very rare. We're close to everything yet there's a feeling of privacy as well. The house is spacious enough for everyone to be comfortable; there are three indoor sitting areas and four patios.

Truly a Wellfleet experience, our property has the flavor of the town, a quintessential New England village. There are modern amenities and antique details throughout the house.

Our guests have told us they love the location because there are so many options for activities, many within walking distance, or easily accessible by bike or car. There are nine restaurants, dozens of shops and galleries, fish markets, produce stands, grocery store, the marina, golf, tennis, a newly renovated skate park, ball park, and so much more. Take in the natural beauty on foot, by bike or boat. Fresh water ponds are within one mile and salt water beaches are within one (bay) to two miles (ocean).

Welcome back to your summer home. Our property is chemical-free; our garden is organic. In the home, we use all-natural and eco-friendly products. Being sustainable matters to us and we believe it makes a difference for you too.

We offer the opportunity to experience a different way to vacation, one that includes the beauty of our natural surroundings, the richness of a historic home, and the comfort of a well-dressed room.

Pets: We do not accept pets.

There are many properties on HomeAway that do accept pets as well as several boarding kennels within 15 minutes north and south of our location.

I'm a landscape contractor and my husband, Scot, is a radome technician. Beyond our work, we combine our passion for design, architecture, landscaping, and sustainability right here at home.

In our down time, we enjoy cooking, reading, swimming, surfing, biking, running, hiking, photography, and traveling together.

Trudy Vermehren purchased this farmhouse in 1999

We fell in love with the property's character and the rambling nature of the house's layout the first time we saw it. We were excited about the possibilities the land offered and we liked the Southern exposure and the sweeps of meadow below the house.

There's so much space, both indoors and out, that relaxing and finding comfortable space is effortless. The house is set up to be inviting and easy to care for. We have decorated and furnished it to be unlike any other house and to enhance the antique details without being stiff or too precious.

One thing we always convey to our guests is that the house has stood for 238 years, seen hundreds of visitors and dozens of residents. It has been, at different times, home to a seafaring captain and his family, a rooming house, and a stage coach stop. It has had successful renovations and some that weren't so well thought out. It was extensively renovated in the 70's and became a 'modern' year round home with central heating and proper bathrooms. Throughout all of this, it has retained its personality and whit. We continue to make improvements, doing much of the work ourselves, from restoring plaster walls to refinishing floors. We believe everything we do should be a step toward restoration rather than renovation.

We want your experience to be one of a kind- the family's summer home- where you come together with friends and family and simply unwind.

Welcome.

Beautifully-Landscaped, Old-School Wellfleet Gem

We had the great fortune of finding this amazing, old Wellfleet home at the last minute, for a much-belated honeymoon. The owners have done a superb job of maintaining the original look and feel of this old, sprawling captain's house, at the same time furnishing it with a comfortable mix of period and some contemporary pieces. The kitchen is a cook's dream, with a number of new, state-of-the-art appliances and tools. The grounds are also lovely, with a rustic patio, and a rambling garden - all well-cared for.

The house is a 3-5 minute walk from the heart of downtown. and surrounded by great beaches on the both the bay and ocean sides. This would be ideal for a large family's summer get-together, as the layout provides many spaces for privacy as well as a central living/kitchen area. The owners also live nearby and are readily available should you need help with anything.

We've rented several properties in the Wellfleet/Truro area over the years, and this is at the top of the list. Highly recommend.

Fabulous stay - beautiful place

Weve been coming to Wellfleet every summer for over 20 years, but this was my first time renting this house -- We absolutely loved it - from the entrance ( walking through the pretty gate into the grounds), to the gorgeous kitchen , to the beautiful bedrooms. We loved the grounds and views. The highlight was the fantastic kitchen. We had friends come for a couple days who loved to cook and they had the best time using all the gadgets -- we made fabulous meals and treats and dined outside -- it was just wonderful. Trudy was very welcoming and helpful. Hoping to get back again this year !!
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for writing in.

We're pleased you had such a great time and that you chose our home. We love making it just that- a home away from home!

Absolutely wonderful home

I can't say enough good things about the house and its owner. It was spacious and beautifully decorated. Every year, a group of 8-10 friends go to Wellfleet and this was our third summer. Each year we typically find places with "Room inequality" meaning someone gets stuck with a crappy bed, etc. But each room was lovely and had a comfortable bed. The kitchen was above and beyond any other kitchen we had-- it had a seltzer maker! The owner, Trudy is a landscaper and the grounds are filled with stunning flowers and plants-- eating breakfast on the patio each morning, I was struck by the natural beauty of the surroundings as if I was seeing it for the first time. The location is ideal-- a short walk from the town of Wellfleet. I even walked to Mayo beach one morning for a quick dip in the bay, a nice respite from driving everywhere. I definitely plan to return some day.
Owner's Response: Thank you for such positive feedback! We really wanted our property to be a place we would want to go visit. We wanted every room to be comfortable and our kitchen to be a cook's kitchen with all the tools we might need to make a feast. We would want to vacation in a home where we didn't have to bring along pillows, linens, beach towels, coolers, etc. So, that is what drives our style and our inventory.

Credit goes to my husband who, when not traveling for work, is constantly tweaking the details and direction of the property as well. I couldn't do this without him or without the cleaning and landscaping crew that comes in every week. It's a broad effort!

We hope to see you all return next year. It was such a pleasure to have you!

Wellfleet Wonder

"Wow" and "Oh my God". That's all we could say as Trudy gave us the grand tour upon arrival. The house, the gardens/landscaping, and the attention to detail make this a really special place. So close to Wellfleet's downtown, but with the privacy and seclusion you feel here, you'd never know. Lots of charm and an old-school feel, but with ALL the modern conveniences you could ever need. Super clean and well maintained (be sure to check out the extensive gardens and land!!) and the 2 minute walk to Main St (and ice cream) are icing on the cake.

Trudy is the soul of generosity and goes out of her way to help when needed. We are a party of 10 who has been coming to Wellfleet for 5 years now, and we unanimously agreed this is the best house we've stayed at. And....we'll be back next year!

If you're looking for a Wellfleet gem, look no further (just don't take our week!!). This house is WELL worth the price for all the comfort and convenience it provides. VERY highly recommended.

We can't thank you enough Trudy! Hope to see you again next July!
Owner's Response: We really like to have your vacation feedback: your review of the town, the property, and the overall experience and I'm so happy to hear just how much everyone loves it!

Beautiful historic house in Weelfleet

We had planned a family reunion on the Cape and had been looking for a large house that was close to one of the town centres on the outer Cape. This house in Wellfleet was wonderful. There was enough space that we could congregate comfortably around the dinning table, but then equally it was possible to find a quite corner if you needed a little privacy.

The house is full of character due to its historic nature, but then is also equipped with all the modern conveniences.

The location was ideal as it is no more than a 5 minute walk to the local grocery store, fish market, fruit and vegetable stands and all of the restaurants in Wellfleet.

In general it was an ideal house for larger groups looking to pursue multiple activities.
