Nothing but wind, birds & water greet your senses in this 50's California-style spacious home located on the crest of a dune on Lieutenant's Island in Wellfleet. Sweeping views of Great Island, Indian Neck, Blackfish Creek, dune grass and water meet your eye as you sit inside the house or on one of the large decks outside. Sunrise and Sunset is one large 6 bedroom, 4 bath house. Its uniqueness is that it has the facilities of two separate units even tho it is rented as only one. In other words it has 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms, 2 dining areas, 2 large outdoor decks All the room you need on either Sunrise or Sunset for a large group and yet privacy when you want as well. In the middle of the summer you are on a tidal island away from it all without any of the difficulty of boat schedules and the like. There are only private homes on the island and much of it as conservation land or owned by the Mass Audubon Sanctuary. Ospreys, endangered diamondback turtles, foxes, and more.
Uniqueness of the house: Sunrise/Sunset is unique in that it offers a huge six bedroom house in a magical setting with all the space and amenities for 12 people and yet the opportunity to have privacy for different parts of the group. Since it is in actuality two 3 bedroom units connected by a long hallway, there are 2 kitchens, 2 dining areas, 2 living rooms, 2 huge outdoor decks. Thus in large families or where there are several families vacationing together, everyone can be together on one side of the house or the other or at times have their own fully equipped separate living space. Lots of room to spread out and have differing activities going on all at the same time.
Lt. Island: Lt. Island is a tidal island offering all the advantages of an island kind of retreat without the disadvantage of a ferry schedule. Most of the time you just drive your car or walk over the rustic one car bridge to or from the island. But at high tide the water comes in through the marsh and surrounds the bridge to a greater or lesser extent depending on the height of the tide. You often could drive through the small amount of water, but since it's salt water, it's not a good idea. Being on vacation it is a minor inconvenience (and kind of fun) to check the tide tables and figure you wait to come or go from the island for about two hours around the high tide point once a day. But what a world of difference being on the island with nothing but houses and the ocean and marsh around you. A whole different feeling than most other places on Cape Cod and yet so close to Wellfleet, Provincetown and all the other attractions of the area.
Nearby: The quaintness of old Cape Cod is everywhere with each town having its own charm dependent on its history, population, orientation. Wellfleet, the nearest town, is known for its art galleries and harbor front. Provincetown at the very end of the Cape is known for quirkiness, endless beaches and dunes, miles of bike trails, whale watching, fishing, theatre, street life and shopping. Truro, Eastham, and Orleans, and the rest of the Cape for that matter are close by. And swimming is available in either the bay, the ocean or fresh water ponds!! The National Seashore beaches are incomparable from Herring Cove, Race Point, Long Nook, Newcomb Hollow, Cahoon Hollow, Great Island, Marconi, Salt Pond, just to name a few. In addition there are many wonderful fresh water kettle ponds in Wellfleet like Gull, Duck, Spectacle and on. And of course the birds and sea life are everywhere. The Audubon Bird Sanctuary is close by and even owns part of Lt. Island. Wellfleet oysters and clams - yum!
