It's a small pretty village which has ancient narrow cobbled streets that wind between the old buildings and is situated approximately 2 km south of Varenna, The village lies on the eastern side of Lake Como and benefits from some lovely lakeside walks.
The houses in this village are situated to the foot of the steep slopes of the Fopp mount, which is over 1000 metres high and crowned by the ruins of Castle of Vezio.
The pretty and well established village of Fiumelatte claims its unique name from the distinctive frothy river which runs through the village and which is famous in Italy as the country’s shortest river! Lombardy - Lake Como Area:
The Italian Lakes are a little slice of paradise. Elegant ribbons of blue water stretch out ahead, folded into the sun-baked foothills, with a spectacular back drop of the snow-capped Alps.
Lake Como offers hidden treasures just waiting for the visitor to discover them: charming corners forgotten by time, lakeside villages where nothing seems to have changed for centuries.
It is steeped in history with an immense collection of churches, architectural masterpieces and works of art covering the centuries. The lake is situated in a basin surrounded by wooded mountains, and offers an extremely varied landscape, with its' shores featuring a succession of pastures, and woods as well as harsh and impressive rock formations.
All this alongside elegant, lakeside villas with sub-tropical gardens, which provide a haven of peace and tranquillity and chic resorts such as Varenna, Bellagio, Menaggio and Como itself.
Warming, in spriing and graced with natural beauty, the lakes are still a place to draw breath and wonder. Lake Como, oriented north-south, ringed by characterful old villages often wedged onto narrow beaches between rugged cliffs and water. Those classic lake images of flower strewn balconies, Baroque gardens and splendid waterside villas can be found here in abundance. Dotted around and between the lakes are some of Italy's finest art cities, such as Milan, Verona & Bergamo.
The most romantic and picturesque villages on the lake are Santa Maria Rezzonico, Varenna (15 min by ferry) & Bellagio (8 min by ferry), Lenno (visit Villa Balbianello, location for 007's Casino Royale as well as Villa Gaeta, right here in Menaggio) & Laglio (where George Clooney owns Villa Oleandra).

Guestbook comments from the manager
The one thing that you both recommended highly that we didn't do was to take the private boat ride - we did take a lot of ferries (esp. yesterday), & we realize that wasn't the same thing at all as the closer-to-the-shore experience that we would have had. Seems that we ran out of time (you'll find out when you get older that the pace slows a bit!), so.... if you'll forgive us for not taking that advice this trip, we promise to do it next time!
We did nothing today that we couldn't do on foot, so.... no car & no boats. We walked up to Crotto di Pino for lunch - sat outside beneath an olive tree overlooking the lake - the owner couldn't have been nicer - said that his food was "simplice ma buona" - he was true to his word, & we spent our "last afternoon on Lake Como" in a most enjoyable & leisurely fashion.
Thank you again for everything - we'll have nothing but good memories - I'm sure you hear that all the time!!
