About Liz Smith ('Betty' on the email)

My first visit to Cape Cod was as a middle school student from Connecticut. It was love at first sight - I said to myself, someday, I'm going to live here. And, in 1979, with my husband and five children, ranging in age from 3-13, I did.

The family run motel business that caused the move, however, proved way too overwhelming for the busy life required to raise a family. After 5 years of that, the business sold and the house at 90 Ireland Way was built and became home.

Cape Cod Community College is a wonderful resource for education on the Cape. It provided me the opportunity to get an education, be a stay at home mom and assist (bookkeeping) the entrepreneur husband who was then building houses for a living. (90 Ireland Way is the result of that endeavor).

Renting the house in the summer, after the children were grown and on their own, was the plan. However, after graduation from an off-Cape college, it was evident that my marriage couldn't survive the change.

Renting the house then became essential for repairs and maintenance.

For the past 9 years, many different families have enjoyed a summer vacation on Cape Cod in this wonderful family home. The house has become even more important to the children - all adults now and some with their own children - than before. Indeed, my oldest granddaughter (named for me!), is 17 this year!!

Of all the holidays we've enjoyed over the years, this past Christmas was the best. My 10 year old granddaughter, Jess, said to me during the Wii tournament, 'Gammie, it's not about the Wii - it's the people'. Yes, wisdom from a child. It was Jess who insisted that another Wii be purchased so the summer guests could enjoy playing the different games.

We all hope you create special family memories at a home that has done the same for us.

Families are so precious. And creating memorable experiences is what bonds us together even more. We sincerely hope you enjoy the best vacation ever!

Liz Smith ('Betty' on the email) purchased this house in 1984

Why Liz Smith ('Betty' on the email) chose Eastham

Eastham is delightful: 3 miles wide from ocean to bay with many beautiful ponds as well. It is a family focused resort town boasting the National Seashore Visitor's Center. Beach days at bay or ocean beaches or ponds will put you into a new relaxed mode. Bike on the rail trail, relax on the expansive new deck and just 'be' on your vacation. Great new seafood store (Mac's) will provide the freshest locally caught fish or eat out at one of the many fine restaurants. Grilling on the deck is definitely an easy option.

What makes this house unique

90 Ireland Way was built as our family home in 1984. Five children enjoyed growing up here and many of their local friends considered the house their 'home' as well. Since they are now grown and living alone or with husbands and children, the house has been enjoyed by summer vacationers for the past 15 years. During the off-season, we gather for holidays and memorable occasions. Add 90 Ireland Way to your vacation memories - it's a house meant to be enjoyed for just this purpose.

Eastham is equi-distance from Provincetown and Hyannis.

It's an easy drive to enjoy whale watching (recommend Provincetown for this) where several boats are available.

Sport fishing is fabulous at Rock Harbor in Orleans, 5 minutes from the house. You can charter a half or full day in advance.

The house provides ultimate privacy in an upscale residential neighborhood. Early mornings are perfectly quiet to enjoy the deck with that first cup of coffee.

Convenient to back roads, it's possible to drive to Orleans or Wellfleet without using Route 6, thus avoiding traffic. A Super Stop and Shop is 5 minutes away, in Orleans. Also in that complex is a TJ Maxx, a favorite for discount shoppers. The Christmas Tree shops are just down the street from TJ's and offer a variety of super priced items ranging in home goods, toys and snack foods.

Chatham is a lovely 'village' of shops that make walking down Main Street a pleasure. You're sure to find just the right item to retain your Cape Cod memories or even a gift for the person watering plants at your house. There are several restaurants to enjoy here, as well.

Menues are in a notebook at the house. You'll be able to choose which restaurant is the right one to celebrate a special evening or for the whole family to dine together.

Family Gathering

  • 5 of 5

Our family gathered here last July for a week to celebrate my birthday. We love the Cape and have spent many summers there. So, we were all delighted by the perfect setting, the spacious accommodation and the well planned and supplied kitchen, where everyone could take a turn as chef of the day. The location of your home close to Cape Cod Bay and walking distance to a Fresh Water Pond beach, was perfect; as were the bikes, the basketball and badminton courts which kept everyone amused and active. Every evening we all gathered on the deck for cocktails and conversation. Sounds perfect, and it was. Thank you very much for making your home

available to us.

Owner's Response: Thanks for taking the time to post a review!! I'm so glad that you were pleased with the house and amenities. It is definitely my goal to make this a wonderful vacation experience; from arrival through the entire rental time. Having different age groups in families is a challenge. My goal is to create opportunities so everyone has an activity or special experience that they will remember, positively. Cape Cod is so beautiful and spending time here, on vacation, is just the best. I hope you'll be able to return in the future. For now, best wishes for a delightful holiday season and peace, health and happiness in the New Year. Warm regards, Liz

Amazing House

  • 5 of 5

Stayed in this house for a week in August 2014. The description does not do it justice. My extended family all stayed here and the house was plenty large enough for all of us-there was 8 adults, 3 20+ year olds and a baby. What terrific set-up for the baby-put them in the studio and baby could sleep while we enjoyed the beautiful deck and yard and all the lawn toys. The kitchen is truly amazing, nothing but the finest china, cookware and glass ware-all pampered chef. We were able to prepare large meals for all of us with plenty of room for cooking and seating. We also were able to all sit and eat on the deck and utilize the grill. The included linens were as good if not better than any fine motel. A truly memorable family vacation, I only hope we can do it again.

Excellent family vacation get-away property

  • 5 of 5

The description of this vacation home is not overstated. It is indeed a fabulous property for a family get away on the Cape. It is located in a quiet residential area, yet only minutes from beautiful Bay side beaches and the National Seashore Park. The studio apartment provides a spacious oasis for grandparents while the younger ones in the family can enjoy the many play and entertainment places on the ground floor of the home. The 5 bedrooms in the main house are airy and spacious and can easily accomodate 10+. The common eating and gathering areas and spacious prep friendly kitchen easily handle a large gathering. A highlight of the property is the expansive deck, which stretches the entire width of the back of the home and overlooks a large and well maintained backyard, with kid friendly play areas and swing set. What also sets this home apart from many other rental properties is its well stocked amenities, including countless quality bed linens, bath towels, beach towels and chairs, and a kitchen loaded with everything that one would need to put together a gourmet meal for a large gathering. What also made our experience so special was the owner. We found Liz to be a delightful person, who was not only helpful, but genuinely caring in wanting to meet our needs and make our vacation experience a memorable one. We would not hesitate to recommend this property to a friend or family looking for the ideal vacation get-away for a large family gathering, especially with many little children. It is truly a pleasure to write this review.

Well-appointed and Warm

  • 5 of 5

My family as well as my sister's family thoroughly enjoyed this home. There were 11 of us (ages 2, 10, 13, 20, 23, 27, 30, 46, 46, 54, 56) and it fit each of us perfectly! The house offered more gathering areas than we could actually use. We loved all being together in the expansive living room in the evenings and did not even need to use the 2 downstairs family rooms. The mattresses and linens made for comfortable sleeping. We loved the piano, the wifi access, and the kitchen (which had more than enough silverware, dishes, glasses, etc.). We cooked a great deal and it was well-equipped for that purpose. The grill was great for our cookout-style meals.

The yard had so many different activity areas ( basketball court, volleyball area, swingset) and the expansive deck was fantastic. The owner provided so many conveniences - towels, sports equipment, beach chairs, sand toys, and more. The hot/cold outdoor shower was perfect after a day at the beach! Up through the very last day, we kept finding more wonderful things about the house!

The description and photos of this property are very accurate. The only thing I might add would be that access to the main part of the house is via either outdoor or indoor stairs. Someone who has difficulty with stairs might not do well at this property.

We had the opportunity to meet the owner when we arrived and she was as delightful in person as she had been in our correspondance. She clearly is personally connected to this property.

We look for vacation homes that have that feel of "home" and this property does just that. We plan to lease it the next time we holiday on the Cape.

Spacious, Private, great for all types of groups

  • 5 of 5

Just to give you an idea of the size of the house, I booked a stay for 12 adult males for a golfing/fishing trip. The deck is expansive, the main house has 5 bedrooms, and the studio is just great. Noone bumped into each other, its that big. Whether its an extended family or a couples, or a large group, this is the place. I will go back again and again and again. I have fallen in love with the quiet. the beaches are close by, this is the outer cape at its finest.

Simply relaxing vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

It's nice to have a home away from home when you travel. We had so many wonderful memories of our time in the home. The whole family was able to sleep comfortably, the beds were just right. We enjoyed our walks around the quiet neighborhood and biking right to the trail from the house was wonderful. This is the perfect home to have a little time to yourself and be with the family at the same time, spacious and nicely decorated. The kitchen has all you need to make wonderful meals. It was great to have the beach towels and chairs right at the house so it was one less thing to pack. After the beach we enjoyed showering outside, playing basketball, badmitten, and watching the children on the swingset. We highly recommend the home to other families!

Map

Car: necessary

One mile to First Encounter Beach (bay side). Less than a mile to Herringbrook Pond (fresh water). One and a half miles to Nauset Light Beach and Coast Guard Beach (ocean side). Convenient to Orleans with shopping center and direct access to the bike trail at the dead-end of Ireland Way.

Equidistance to Provincetown and Hyannis. Whale watch from the former and shop in the latter.

Eastham is 'old Cape Cod'. Delightfully rural with the best beaches on Cape Cod. 3 miles between ocean and bay; it doesn't get much better than this.

Clamming on the flats at low tide (permit required) will make you feel like a native. Enjoy the best seafood at home or at local restaurants.

Traffic isn't a problem, once you get here. Bridge Road in Eastham connects Orleans to Wellfleet without the traffic. On Sunday or Wednesday, the Wellfleet Flea market is a must. Local vendors have bargains galore.

The weekly newspaper, The Cape Codder, will be waiting for you. Check it out & Enjoy

Other Activities: The local theatre scene is fabulous. In Orleans, there is The Academy of Performing Arts. One of the frequent lead actors is in the family so we're quite proud of this venue.

There are other theaters, in Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown. And, the Cape Playhouse, in Dennis, is know for their fabulous equity theatre.

The Wellfleet drive-in theatre is one of the last remaining in the nation. If they are offering a show you'd enjoy make sure to go. Your kids will love the experience.

In Dennis, at the Cape Cinema, adults will enjoy the unique atmosphere and the great selection of films they offer. It's only about 20 minutes from the house and perfect for the (ugh!!) rainy afternoon.

Brewster's Museum of Natural History and Wellfleet's Audobon are great for all. They are well staffed and offer insight to the Cape and it's natural habitat. The Cape Cod National Seashore has a wonderful space in Eastham and varies their programs.

The Cape Cod National Seashore is in Eastham!

Golf: Golfing on Cape Cod is available year round. There are five beautiful public courses (one for each day of the week) at Chequessett Yacht and Country Club in Wellfleet about 5 miles from the house (508-349-3704), The Captain's Golf Course in Brewster (508-896-1716) about 5 miles from the house, Harwichport Golf Club about 25 miles from the house (508-432-0250), Highland Golf Links in Truro aoubt 8 miles from the house (508-487-9201) and Blue Rock Resort and Golf Course in South Yarmouth about 8 miles from the house (508-398-9295).
