Aspen. See it from a home almost as historic as the town.
To fully appreciate our home, go back to a time leading into America's gilded age. The valley known for its waters by the Ute Indians for countless years, the Silver Boom, the hunting and fishing, mountains to climb and trails to hike, and above all: the unmatched views. Before Interstate Highways. Before Commercial Air. And in Aspen, before skiing, this home bore witness to it all.
When the Roaring Fork Valley's excursion trains brought people from Denver, L.A., Chicago, Boston, who, drawn by the breath taking beauty of the mountains and the way the air, the streams, the peaks and the smell of the firs made you want to quit your job and make the burgeoning town of Aspen your home, our home rubbed shoulders with Ajax and Red Mountains. A witness to the boom/bust economies; a survivor to Aspen's most glorious days: today.
For the home's first owner who came to catch a few trout the summer of 1882, the decision was easy. The land he bought and the home he built in the best part of town remains today as one of the most classic and comfortable Victorians the mountains have ever overlooked.
Constantly updated, our house today has most every modern amenity necessary for a great vacation. In addition to those listed, you will find a separate 'kids' area with its own TV and VCR/DVD in the basement. On the main floor, adjacent to the kitchen, is a dining room where up to 20 may be seated at a table made of planks from a 200 year old Cape Cod barn. In the living room, the marble fireplace and wet bar make relaxing easy and entertaining convenient. The parlor offers cozy chairs in which to pull upa good book or a blanket for a nap. If you must work, High Speed wireless is in place.
The sleeping areas offer 3 bedrooms, upstairs in the original section of the home, and 4 more in the fully renovated north section.
From the front door, you are a 10-15 minute walk from the center of town. And just two blocks from RFTA, Aspen's free Mass Transit line which takes you easily to town, Aspen Mountain, Highlands, Buttermilk, snowmass, or just about anywhere you want to go. Click on the RFTA Link provided at the bottom of this page for a map and transit details. It’s a warm, historical retreat, in the heart of one of the country’s most exclusive mountain destinations. Our home. Comfortable. Classic. Convenient and close to everything.
Fantastic week in Aspen, floating the Colorado, riding bikes, hiking to Maroon Lake and of course amazing meals around that wonderful dinner table. We were able to walk a few blocks down to the music tent and sit outside and listen to a concert.
What a wonderful setting for a family vacation. Thanks very much
