WEST END UPDATED HISTORICAL VICTORIAN

Aspen House Rental Photos and Description

House, 7 Bedrooms, 4.5 Baths, (Sleeps 14)

Aspen. See it from a home almost as historic as the town.

To fully appreciate our home, go back to a time leading into America's gilded age. The valley known for its waters by the Ute Indians for countless years, the Silver Boom, the hunting and fishing, mountains to climb and trails to hike, and above all: the unmatched views. Before Interstate Highways. Before Commercial Air. And in Aspen, before skiing, this home bore witness to it all.

When the Roaring Fork Valley's excursion trains brought people from Denver, L.A., Chicago, Boston, who, drawn by the breath taking beauty of the mountains and the way the air, the streams, the peaks and the smell of the firs made you want to quit your job and make the burgeoning town of Aspen your home, our home rubbed shoulders with Ajax and Red Mountains. A witness to the boom/bust economies; a survivor to Aspen's most glorious days: today.

For the home's first owner who came to catch a few trout the summer of 1882, the decision was easy. The land he bought and the home he built in the best part of town remains today as one of the most classic and comfortable Victorians the mountains have ever overlooked.

Constantly updated, our house today has most every modern amenity necessary for a great vacation. In addition to those listed, you will find a separate 'kids' area with its own TV and VCR/DVD in the basement. On the main floor, adjacent to the kitchen, is a dining room where up to 20 may be seated at a table made of planks from a 200 year old Cape Cod barn. In the living room, the marble fireplace and wet bar make relaxing easy and entertaining convenient. The parlor offers cozy chairs in which to pull upa good book or a blanket for a nap. If you must work, High Speed wireless is in place.

The sleeping areas offer 3 bedrooms, upstairs in the original section of the home, and 4 more in the fully renovated north section.

From the front door, you are a 10-15 minute walk from the center of town. And just two blocks from RFTA, Aspen's free Mass Transit line which takes you easily to town, Aspen Mountain, Highlands, Buttermilk, snowmass, or just about anywhere you want to go. Click on the RFTA Link provided at the bottom of this page for a map and transit details. It’s a warm, historical retreat, in the heart of one of the country’s most exclusive mountain destinations. Our home. Comfortable. Classic. Convenient and close to everything.

Fantastic week in Aspen, floating the Colorado, riding bikes, hiking to Maroon Lake and of course amazing meals around that wonderful dinner table. We were able to walk a few blocks down to the music tent and sit outside and listen to a concert.

What a wonderful setting for a family vacation. Thanks very much

Great Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
The best home away from home ever. This is a beautiful home with 7 bedrooms for our extended, close knit family. This victorian has been expanded in such a way that there's lots of privacy AND family areas with lots of room for everyone. It felt like a home, not just a rented house. Top notch applicances. Enjoyed cooking Thanksgiving dinner. Even a supply of toys and games. Close to a great playground for the kids and walking distance to downtown. Or the local shuttle can be accessed just 1/2 block away. The owners were easy to work with and gave lots of helpful hints. I almost hate to say how much we enjoyed this house...don't want it to be booked the next time we want to come.

We've stayed here twice and hope to return

We've stayed here twice and hope to return
  • 5 of 5
Our extended family has a reason to go to Aspen to overlap with a relative who visits/works at the Aspen Center for Physics every summer. Consequently we have rented several different homes over 8 years. This is by far the best and a great value. We recently had our second stay here, and we had tried for another summer a couple of years ago but it wasn't available. We already hope to be able to return to this house in 2012. The location is lovely: easy walk to the Aspen Music Festival and the Center for Physics. Although it's not right in the commercial part of town, that is a manageable walk, including to the Main Street Bakery for a delicious breakfast and baked goods to bring home. The neighborhood is quiet and the neighboring homes, like this one, are attractive with lovely flowers. We bring bikes and it is easy to pick up the well established Aspen bike paths from here. The house is a home, not a vacation rental. It is well equipped with every thing you could need -- tons of dishes, pots and pans, towels, games and puzzles, note pads, Aspen bus schedules and maps, etc. The layout of the house allows people to spread out and not feel crowded together, but the rooms are spacious so all can gather together in the den/TV room, or around the giant dining table that is open to the spacious work area of the kitchen. There's a charming deck and garden, and a pleasant front porch to sit on. The four newer bedrooms are large (grandparents and parents slept there) and all the rooms are beautifully decorated -- bright, colorful, comfortable, charming. The whole house is sunny and light. The ceilings are high in most of the house -- only the older wing of bedrooms feels cozy with low ceilings (so younger generation slept there). My son is 6'5" and the shower head is even high enough for him. There's lots of space and storage for coats and gear. Our family feels so at home here; it just doesn't feel generic or like a ski condo, it has charm, warmth and character. Property is clean and well maintained and owner is responsive. Despite its antique charm, the home is updated and has all the modern conveniences. Being at this property will add a lot to the quality of your stay in Aspen.

Home Away From Home

  • 5 of 5
It is my pleasure to post my review of my experience leasing this house for my family and friends skiing holiday.
1. the house was fully furnished with care and warmth with homely feel.
2. kitchen utensils, silverware, crockery were well stocked.
3. every appliance was in good working condition and never pose any problem for us, which made our holiday much more pleasant and stress free.
4. the landlord was caring enough to ring up on our very first day we arrived and asked if everything was OK and if we needed anything we should call him.
5.The best experience was how quickly my security deposit was refunded.

Overall it was a wonderful holiday we had and the accomodation was a home away from home.

I have no hesitation in recommending friends to lease this place.

What a really great place to stay. We are already planning our return trip!

  • 5 of 5
We were a little unsure about staying here, but it turned out to be a real bargain. There were 11 of us and everyone agreed that it was just like being at home: if only for a week. There was so much room! Big bedrooms in the newer area of the house and the kids just loved having their own section (and we loved knowing that they were in one area of the house). Adults and older kids were in the other area. There was what Mom would call a rumpus room in the basement, a pinball machine that kept them occupied for days in rigorous competition, and a TV and DVD there for their use. A little short on DVD's, but next year we'll just pack a dozen and they're set!

Upstairs, a wonderful dining room and well appointed kitchen along with a great living room with a wet bar. Nice fireplace and a cozy reading nook in the parlor to just cozy up in when everyone else was skiing: I don't. Easy access to town on the cross town shuttle that picked us up in front of the house. Next year some of us will just fly in and skip the drive from Denver Airport.

The kids can't stop talking about it and we are planning for Spring break 2012. Thank you for making our stay so wonderful and relaxing. You were so helpful with everything and it really was a great vacation. Count on our return.

Really enjoyed our stay in this home. At the peak, there were twelve of us and very comfortable. It's a comfortable, charming home, not glitzy. Four of the bedrooms are in the "newer section" of the home and very suitable for adults. The three bedrooms in the original part of the house are basic and more suitable for younger folks if they can navigate up the stairs. Kitchen was well supplied. Large living room and dining room. We actually entertained twenty people seated at on table for dinner in the dining room! Good grill in back and pretty back yard and garden. Great neighborhood location. Owner very nice to work with.
