Capel-Cariad - a self catering cottage that sleeps 6 guests in 4 bedrooms
This unique self catering chapel conversion provides accommodation for up to 6 people in Llanystumdwy, a beautiful and friendly little village on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park here in North Wales.
I like to think that one of the advantages of a self catering holidays over more traditional hotel breaks is that you get the opportunity to stay somewhere that's a bit different. Quirky Capel-Cariad certainly doesn't disappoint on that front. The conversion of this chapel has obviously been a labour of love. Features like the huge gymnasium doors that shield the kitchen cant be found in a hardware store but hunted out, discovered and restored. It would have been easier to rip everything out perhaps and start again but original features like the pulpit and spindles have been retained and woven into the fabric of the new layout.
The high vaulted ceilings of the lounge give this space a sense of grandeur and history. As described, some huge and lovingly restored gymnasium doors subdivide the kitchen diner from the lounge. Their size and design ensuring the sense of space and light is maintained. A dishwasher, electric cooker and hob, microwave plus all the essentials are included. A washing machine and tumble dryer are located in a separate external porch.
Some curtains separate one small sleeping area on the other side of the ground floor. A second single bedroom is of a more conventional design. So older children or lighter sleepers should grab this spot perhaps. The family bathroom has a corner bath with shower over and the usual washbasin and wc facilities.
From behind the pulpit in this unique self catering chapel conversion, two staircases ascend to the left and the right to two more double bedrooms. So a maximum of 6 people can be accommodated. The larger bedroom on the left has additional seating in a more private space for relaxing perhaps.

Guestbook comments from the manager
We enjoyed a lovely week in Capel Cariad. The sun shone a lot of the time too. We found the old chapel very relaxing and so different and quirky. During our stay we attended a family wedding in the area. An excellent time had by all.
