Access to Ocean, Beaches: Bring your kayak or canoe and paddle over to Vaughn Island for a picnic or through Paddy's Cove when the tide is high! Temporary Goose Rocks Beach stickers are available at Kennebunkport Town Hall on Elm Street or at the Kennebunkport Communications Center/Police Station. (Goose Rocks and Kennebunk Beach are a mere ~5 mile drive from the cottage.) Goose Rocks Beach stickers ~$6/day; $25/week for 2008 summer season.

Restaurants and Other: For small grocery trips, Bradbury Brothers Market approx 1 mile away. (Wine, beer, deli and fresh meats). Bradbury Brothers also rents a limited selection of DVDs for a quiet night in. For a tasty breakfast, try The Wayfarer ~1 mile away on the way to Cape Porpoise Pier or All Day Breakfast in Kennebunk on Route 9 on the way out of town. For dinner try The Captain's only 1 mile away, or The Ramp or Pier 77 on Cape Porpoise Pier. For a quick dinner or sandwich, try Cape Porpoise House of Pizza right across the street from Bradbury Brothers. Also for famous fried clams, try The Clam Shack by the bridge near Dock Square, or for a nice sit down dinner, try Hurricanes in the Dock Square area as well.

Your home was beautiful an the kids and I truly loved the peacefulness and quiet. The beach was wonderful and safe, my children enjoyed going into the water and collecting shells. It was their first trip to Maine and they loved it. It is a great place for a small family to stay an visit.

Burnham Wood revisited

This is delightful, old school, vacation cottage that we would love to rent again.

It is just as represented in the photos and description, and is reasonably priced. It is clean, well decorated, and peaceful, with a lovely deck out front for dining ("in Burnham Wood"). Three adults, or two with two small children, is capacity in this writer's opinion. It has a small, adequately equipped kitchen, an indoor table, and comfortable seating. There is good ventillation throughout. The bathroom is clean and nicely decorated as well, and has a good shower (an outside shower would be a great addition but may not be allowed in the area). There are TVs in both bedrooms, and, while I don't watch much personally, it might be a problem for others as you must be lying down to watch. A separate radio/CD player in the living area would also be a welcome addition.

The Ramp and Captain's Table (byob) in Cape Porpoise are both highly recommended and occasional trips to Bradbury's Market are a hoot. Goose Rocks Beach (15 mins. by car) is a very fine, 3 mile long beach. Great for walking or just being there - the whole idea of a seaside vacation, no?

I would definitely recommend this cottage to a friend or realative, but not until I have reserved MY time next year!
