Falmouth Vacation Rental cottage

The cottage was very cute on the outside, needs some updating on the inside but was comfortable (Other renters exaggerating a bit about the condition of the house). Perfect location, walk to the beach and 5 min drive to Falmouth center. Bike ride to the ferry and go to Martha's Vineyard for a day...we had a great time!

While the owners were gracious and well intended, they don't have a clue about fair advertising and maintaining a dwelling in a reasonable home-like condition. Wallpaper was peeling off the wall in so called master BR. The shower curtain rod was broken and rusty, The floors were uneven and "disguised" with covering similar to sticky shelf paper or cracked linoleum in the bath room. The beds were worn out and appeared to be way past their useful life. 2nd bedroom and kitchen in basement were disconcerting at best. Drawers and cabinets were not lined or painted. Dehumidifier ran constantly. Some ceiling tiles appeared likely to fall. Egress from basement bedroom was not direct, but thru the kitchen. Too many extension cords for lights. Never got the internet connection to work. Could not endure the 2nd week so we left early for other accommodations. Owner's primary response was a) no prior complaints for 10 years and b) what do you expect, it's just a cottage." 'Buyer beware' applies. Our family has been renting cottages for over 25 years, the vast majority of which far surpass this experience.

This cottage is not what I expected. I feel that it is very overpriced. It is set up very oddly and is cramped for space. The kitchen and second bedroom are in the "basement" of the house which causes the entire house to smell musty (like a basement). The whole place was infested with earwigs. The beach that is advertised "a short four houses walk" is NOT one you would ever want to swim in so don't count on it. I wouldn't even call it a beach. When we arrrived at the rather late check in time of 3pm the owners were still occupying the house and proceeded to pack up very leisurely for the next HOUR AND A HALF! The only positive thing I can say about this property was that it is in decent location in falmouth. Good Luck with renting this one! Never again...
