Guestbook comments from the owner

The house was/is very spacious and comfortable with fantastic views. Mobile signal not great in this part of the world which made the week even better!

Spotted dolphins off the harbour at about 7pm last night-fantastic!

Donna who looks after the house could not have been nicer and more helpful!

Great views over the harbour

  • 4 of 5
We were 6 adults plus 4 children and 1 toddler. It was cosy, but perfectly fine. the children loved the toys in the entrance hall - that was very helpful for a relaxing holiday, thank you. The mattresses in the twin room with the pull-out single were very worn out - even for the children. The cottage was not super clean, but ok.
The view from the house is stunning. It was quite stormy and the waves in the harbour were amazing. Portknockie is a lovely little village, lots of nice walks right from the doorstep, great playground for the children.
Great fish and chips shop in Portknockie, the pub in the Old Coach House Hotel in Buckie we can recommend - great pub food.
We certainly hope to come back again!

Clean, comfortable and welcoming

  • 4 of 5
The house was clean, comfortable and welcoming. It had everything ( and more) that we needed. It was roomy and beds were comfortable. Donna ( caretaker ) was superb, very helpful, went out of her way to make our stay comfortable. Communication with Craig, the owner, was excellent and again he was very helpful. We had a brilliant holiday. Thank you to both of you, we might see you again soon

A great place to explore the coast and relax!

  • 3 of 5
Our family (two adults, three children & one happy springer spaniel) had a great stay at the Old Post Office in Portknockie. The house was very spacious, clean and warm. The kitchen was very well equipped. We enjoyed the short stroll to Bow Fiddle Rock and had fun exploring the various pebble beaches, finding lots of sea glass & worn tile pieces. One of the many highlights was watching a young Peregrine Falcon hunting along the coastline and roosting on the Bow Fiddle. Lots of great walks just on your doorstep . . . was nice to leave the car and just go explore. Saw dolphins and lots of different birds. Had a great walk to Cullen along the coast & then down along the sandy Cullen beach. The boys enjoyed picking out some sweets at the Ice Cream Shop in Cullen which helped to keep them going on the walk back to Portknockie. Enjoyed finding & exploring around Findlater Castle just outside Cullen (ruin of a castle built into the cliffs), Portsoy Harbour (great ice cream shop in Portsoy), and Findochty. There are lots of great places nearby to eat out or get takeaways if you want a break from cooking! We are looking forward to coming back again!

Nice house with view over the sea

  • 5 of 5
The stay was very nice, with friendsly and good service from the housekeeper. The house was clean, well maintained, very well equipped, large, beautiful rooms and there is a cosy atmosphere in the house. The location was fabulous, just backdrawn from the harbour, with good view over the sea and the dolphins. Also, it is possible to enjoy the view from the benches, just across the street.

It is easy to cook even for a large family in the nice kitchen - if you don't visit the pub for a tasty dinner.

The village is beautiful and the nature around is astonishing. The walk to Cullen offers good views and a rough bath by the cliffs or from the sandy beach closer to Cullen.

We would love to return to this house!

exceptionally stay in a exceptional region

  • 4 of 5
We feld very well in your house.
Hints: pegs are missing. Ceiling in boilerroum is untight. There wept water from the el. light. One trop oil each would help to make the doors more silent. House was coverd by doghairs. We are not used to have animals in house. Dona was very kind to us.

Much space, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, in the kitchen is all what you need.
Even additional covers are there.
In the living room tv with sky.

All rooms were very clean; cleaning materials and hoover are available.
Service very helpful and friendly.
We enjoyed our visit very and recommend this cottage to everybody, who wants to spend his holidays in a quite atmosphere.
Restaurant in hotel nearby, in the area many other good restaurants; Lidl and Tesco and gas station in 4 miles.

The Old Post Office is situated at the harbour in Portknockie, which is an old fishing village on the coast of the Moray Firth. The area around the harbour is a conservation area and features traditional houses in North-South rows. Portknockie was voted 'Best Kept Village' several times in recent years in the 'Scotland in Bloom' competition.

• The village is ideal for cyclists and walkers who can enjoy the coastal walks along the Moray Firth and may be lucky to see the Bottlenose Dolphins. The famous Bow-Fiddle Rock, a wave-cut natural arch often teeming with Gulls and Cormorants, is a short walk from the cottage.

• All around Portknockie you will find various Whisky Trails and Castles to explore, as well as the Marine Aquarium at Macduff, the Scottish Tartan museum in Keith and the world famous Baxter's of Speyside.

• For those interested in golf, there are a number of very good courses nearby. Fishing, sea angling, scuba diving and sailing are all available nearby.

• Amenities within Portknockie include, 2 local hotels, grocers, newsagent, pharmacy, fish and chip shop, and not forgetting the children's sea paddling pool by the harbour.
