Overview

East Neuk of Fife Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Sleeps 6, 3 bedrooms, 2 bathroom

The ambiance of Bowhouse is beautifully captured in one of its five star reviews :-

"Lovely location with a homely feel

We arrived late at night and didn't really get to see the house until the following morning, when we were very pleasantly surprised by the charming location - horses coming up to chat over the garden walls - the wonderful views from almost every window, and the general homey-ness of the house.

It has clearly been a much loved home and remains a haven, with unexpected nooks, a warm, sun filled conservatory and lovely large open rooms. It was an absolute pleasure to spend a week there, big enough to accommodate our extended family and guests with ease, and a lovely entertaining space also. We enjoyed early morning in the conservatory just as much as late night chats, and the facilities overall entirely met our needs (definitely got value from the dishwasher too!). The children were delighted by a selection of interesting toys and games, and the adults tucked into a wonderfully random collection of books .It is a charming, tucked away location where there is a pervasive sense of peace and quiet which was a very much needed respite".

Bowhouse is a charming 300 year-old farmhouse set in beautiful Scottish countryside. An ideal family accommodation, it’s been tastefully modernised, yet still manages to retain its original character. The rooms are bright, well decorated with many homely touches and tasteful furnishing. All rooms, especially the sun lounge, offer wonderful panoramic views. The large stone walled garden is well maintained with lawns and shrubs and there is secure storage for sports equipment.

Accommodation comprises:

Ground Floor: Lounge with open fire, dining room, library, sun lounge, breakfast kitchen, utility room, bathroom with bidet and shower over bath. There is an electric cooker, oil-fired heating, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and microwave oven. Television, DVD, CD player and Wifi is also installed.

First Floor: One double and two twin bedrooms, spacious shower room.

Bed linen and towels are supplied to guests.

Bowhouse is a wonderful base for exploring the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, with its beaches and quaint fishing villages. There are plenty of golf courses too - St Andrews is about 25 miles away – and sports activities to enjoy. The farmhouse is within easy reach of Edinburgh, the Trossachs, and Stirling. Yet despite Bowhouse’s rural location, it’s less than three miles from the dual carriageway leading to the Scottish motorway system.

Whether you’re looking for a sporting, cultural or relaxing holiday, Bowhouse can help make your stay in Scotland one to remember.

Why Malcolm Dudson chose East Neuk of Fife

My wife and I moved to Fife in 1980, from Surrey. We wanted something completely different, yet convenient. She found this house, and as soon as I saw it, I knew we had to have it. If I had been asked to sketch her dream house, this was it. A serene stone house, set in a large walled garden, amidst rolling fields..

We lived there for 20 years, before circumstances forced a move back south. We could not bear to give up the house, and I still use if for vacations.

Exactly what we were looking for and more.

Although I was brought up within a few miles of Bowhouse I had no idea that this lovely property existed. It was just as described in the brochure and was well equipped with everything you could possibly require. Unfortunately our stay was a a relatively short one over the Easter weekend and we didn't have time to make full use of the facilities on the doorstep but we would not hesitate to return for a longer visit next time. We particularly enjoyed the beautiful garden and walks and it was lovely to wake up to the sight of fields and horses and the tranquility of it all. Our friends and relatives who still live in the area were able to enjoy visiting us there and we were blessed with lovely sunshine which made the place even more special. Thank you Malcolm for the time you took to speak with me before our visit and explain how everything worked. These personal touches are rare these days but go a long way to making you feel very welcome.

Lovely location, homely home-away-from-home

The children were delighted by a selection of interesting toys and games, and the adults tucked into a wonderfully random collection of books.

The gardener and handyman was great in helping with a minor issue and very responsive. The bedrooms were charmingly accessorised and the house overall was very clean and welcoming.

It is a charming, tucked away location where there is a pervasive sense of peace and quiet which was a very much needed respite.

Having said that, it was also a great base to explore St Andrews and the surrounding countryside, the south west end of the national park, a long scenic drive across Clackmannon to Stirling and an easy drive to Edinburgh, with the local village only five minutes drive away for any essentials you may need.

We would highly recommend the house and would love to go back again.

Ideal location, characterful, warm, comfortable.

  • 5 of 5

Our party of 6 – two grandparents, two parents and two children – found Bowhouse ideal for our week in Scotland. The weather was hot and sunny, and we were able to spend every day out and about in different places nearby, doing different activities, from nature parks and beaches to palaces and museums.

From the start we were impressed by the charmingly characterful Bowhouse, and especially with the style of the accommodation – the stylish bedrooms were just right for our needs, the large family bathroom ideal for fun bathtimes for the children, with plenty of hot water at all times, and the second bathroom was ideally placed and a real boon.

We loved the bright and warm conservatory, with its collection of intriguing family board games, and its views over the surrounding countryside.

Even with additional guests visiting during the day, there was ample seating in the large kitchen and in the dining room, sitting room and conservatory.

The kitchen has a 2 and a half sink – luxury! – and is very well stocked with kitchen paraphernalia.

Not only is there a wide range of activities available within easy reach – the Scottish Deer Centre, the beautiful East Neuk of Fife, St Andrews and much more - there is shopping of all kinds almost on your doorstep, from the Fife Retail Park just off the A92 ten minutes away, to Glenrothes less than 5 miles away.

We also loved the wide selection of books throughout the house, located at strategic points, and the intriguing collections of precious toys and memorabilia on display.

We really enjoyed the ambience of Bowhouse - many thanks for such a heart warming hub for our holiday.

Comfortable, Clean and homely

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in this delightful homely farmhouse (two adults, two teens). Within easy reach of Edinburgh we spent two days at the Fringe Festival with plenty of shopping and after much hustle & bustle it was a real treat to return to the tranquility of the farmhouse.

There is a shopping estate about 15 mins drive away which has a large supermarket and about 15 mins in the other direction we found a wonderful farm shop, with plenty of local Scottish goodies.

The farmhouse provided everything we needed from the facilities to eat in house if we wanted, to the clean homely comfort which was always lovely to come back to.

There are plenty of places to eat and some fab fish and chip shops in the lovely fishing harbours.

There is plenty to see and do and therefore we will most likely be looking to return in the late summer.

Fabulous home with traditional charm

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in Bowhouse and felt right at home. The cottage

is very comfortabIe with a great charackter and you will find yourself in a

very relaxing and peaceful area. Our party consisted of four adults and one

two years old child, but it never felt crowded. Having breakfast and BBQs

almost every day while sitting in the sun on the lovely terrasse was also an

unexpected great pleasure during the lovely warm weather in July. Our son

very much enjoyed the big and well maintained garden.

Bowehouse is very well located as you will find a big retal park near by for

all your needs. The cottage is also a good home base to do day trips or

short term visits to many attractions like Falkland (Palace), St. Andrews

(Beach), Stirling, Loch Katrine and many more.

Owner's Response: It is a pleasure to read reviews such as this, where the guests have obviously taken full advantage of the facilities offered by both the house and the location. It was my home for twenty years, and I appreciate all that it offers more and more every time that I return.
