This village sits above Calheta that has 2 sandy beaches and a new marina. In the marina there are big game fishing boats and also boats that provide whale and dolphin trips. The marina is 5 minutes away by car. There is a nice hotel providing Spa treatment with many restaurants and a supermarket. There is also Casa das Mudas an international art centre. Prazeres village is another 5 minutes away which has a small zoo and a 300 year old church.
In the mountains there is the famous Rabaçal levada walk that has the most waterfalls on the island and from the top of here you can see both sides of the island. There are the last 2 sea located villages on the south of this island namely Jardim do Mar and Paul do Mar.
Jardim do Mar has a new flat promenade to stroll or roller-skate and a few cafés and restaurants. Paul do Mar is nice and flat and not much has changed here for many years retaining it quaint charm appeal. Here you can surf and has hosted many competitions. This village also has a small harbour.
Driving 10 minutes towards Funchal you arrive at Ponto Do Sol a charming 200 metre long sea front promenade and worth a visit to sit for a coffee at one of the hotels or restaurants. 5 minutes away you come to a town called Ribeira Brava that connects the South to the North of the island on the via rapida. This town church has terrific chandeliers and when the sunlight shines on them they sparkle like diamonds. There is a new promenade with lots of coffee shops serving delicious pastries and everything a small town needs. Funchal is 10 minutes away with lots of attractions that make this island a pleasure to visit.
