San Vito Lo Capo is a nice beach town located between striking mountains that surround the enchanting light-blue bay and protect it from sea storms. Its ever quiet crystalline sea and its long white sandy beach have made San Vito Lo Capo the most important bathing resort in Sicily, so that tourism has become its first resource. For this reason, the picturesque harbour village has increased its network of pubs, restaurants, bars, hotels, craft shops in the last years, enhancing its culinary traditions to the utmost, too. Couscous and “caldo-freddo” ( a special sweet which mixes cold ice-cream with hot chocolate cream) have become inseparable couples linked to the name of San Vito Lo Capo; everyone who comes here can’t go away without tasting them!
People who prefer rocks to sand can visit other beautiful places both to the east and west sides of San Vito beach, where a breathtaking sight waits for them with its uncontaminated sea bottom with coralline formation and colourful vegetation. Among these places, the most renowned one is the “NATURAL RESERVE OF ZINGARO”, which stretches along about seven kilometres of unspoilt coastline. Here you can admire a large variety of plants and a rich fauna which you will rarely find in other parts of the island. The natural reserve does not only encompass the clear blue sea and the coast, but also a complex network of paths, shelters and other amenities.
The most important event that calls a lot of people not only from Sicily is the 'COUS COUS FEST”, an international festival of culture and gastronomy of the Mediterranean where cookers from several countries defy each other in cooking couscous, according to their own traditions. The cuisine race is matched with shows, concerts and various performances. Since 1998, it has taken place in September.
Another interesting event is the “INTERNATIONAL KITE FESTIVAL” , which takes place in May. It is a unique event in its genre, an exciting show in which the limpid sea and the wonderful sandy beach of San Vito Lo Capo blend the colourful sky creating a suggestive scenery. Joining together creativity, play and nature contact, artists from all over the world meet here and perform their “soft-kites” in free flights and acrobatic exhibition.
