Easy access to Stratton/Bromley

Four adults and three teens stayed here for a MLK weekend of skiing at Stratton. Stratton was packed, but we had no trouble (or traffic) getting there from this house. The nonskier spent a day happily wandering around Manchester Center, and another at Stratton village. The house is cozy, quiet, and well-maintained, and the owners are very helpful. The double bed mattress is firm, thank goodness - I've had weekends ruined by sagging mattresses. I didn't try the other beds, but heard no complaints. We moved the twin beds in the 2nd BR together for the other couple. Caveat for families with small kids: no railings on upper bunks at this point. The teens were fine.
It's an easy drive to get to the Shaw's supermarket. Cheap gas and good root beer at the Stewart's, which is like a Baskin & Robbins in a 7-Eleven store. We had a nice dinner out at Garlic John's, a couple of miles down the road.
It was about a 3 1/2 hour drive from the Boston area, leaving right at the 5pm rush hour, and including a stop for burgers in Brattleboro. Just under 3 hrs to get back home.
