A few minutes in the car and you are in the centre of the historic town of Lagos with its maze of cobbled side walks and colourful market square offering a large variety of restaurants, bars, cafés, shopping and markets. Or stroll along the promenade to the Marina complex and admire the luxury yachts whilst relaxing with a drink over lunch at one of the marina bars or restaurants.
For those who don’t wish to drive, there is regular 30 minute bus service from Porto do Mos beach down to the town centre of Lagos and it also stops near the Marina, supermarkets and other amenities.

Lagos & Porto do Mos boast some of the best beaches along the Algarvian coast and chances are if you see a photo showing beautiful grottoes and rock formations they have been taken at the local Ponte de Piedade or Praia Dona Ana.
If hiring a car you can visit the natural Spa in the beautiful Monchique Mountains or visit the old Moorish capital of Silves with it's castle set upon the hilltop.
It's easy to keep the children entertained as there are various water parks offering exciting rides and a sea-life park that offers the opportunity to swim with dolphins.
If you are a keen golfer you will find some great courses nearby some with ocean views, such as Palmares, Boavista and Alta courses, plus the challenging Penina Championship Course which often hosts a Portuguese Open tournament.
Lagos itself is a beautiful historical town famous for its association with Portugal's 15th-century Age of Discovery. It was here that Henry the Navigator had his vessels built for the voyages of exploration along the coast of West Africa which ultimately led to the discovery of the sea route past the Cape of Good Hope to India.
The great thing about Lagos is that it has something for everyone from the historical quarter with its castle walls & fortress to the modern Marina with its fantastic yachts. The central square and narrow cobbled streets are an ideal place for strolling and people watching and in the evening street entertainers and buskers create a great atmosphere. A boat trip to the caves and grottoes is a must and there are some great water sports on offer, including deep sea fishing, plus dolphin spotting tours of the Atlantic coast.
