Magical setting: My home is located facing miles of the ocean, sandy beach, the wildlife sanctuary and the Great South Bay where the sun sets every night over the water! It is private, quiet, serene and can be very romantic as well as very suitable for families. Wraparound decks and screen porch offer many choices of places to read, talk and gaze at the scenery in groups or in privacy. Watch peaceful, spectacular sunsets that you'll never forget as the sky turns pink and the sun disappears into the bay. Fire Island is a very special place like no other in the world. Yet, it is so close to New York City. A wonderful place for families to make memories and for children to build on them. My children treasure the time they spend here and return often to have their children experience the same. Drawing on the sidewalk with colored chalk, collecting seashells, painting on rocks, reading. All the pleasures of a simple and shared summer to make memories that last forever.
From a guest summer 2006--We had a great time at your house. Actually, a great time isn't really the right way to describe it. It was idyllic. It was exactly the kind of experience I always imagined for the kids--the freedom to run around and explore without visible parental interference. They made sand castles; they had water fights; they collected shells; they painted shells; they rode back and forth to the bay. They exhausted themselves in the surf. It was beyond my greatest expectations. How often in life does that happen? Unfortunately, I'm already back into the very busy fall schedule and Robbins Rest is just a beautiful memory. Really, thanks for sharing that incredible place with us.-Marie, NYC
The first floor has been totally remodeled after 'Sandy' with white shiplap walls, new white oak floor, ceiling, new laundry appliances, new furnishings, new shower, etc. See fireislandfrankel dot com for more photos.

About Ellen Frankel
I am a former home design editor of consumer magazines and my home reflects my taste in a beach house manner. It is casual in true beach house style but elegant. My family uses it between renters so I've based the design, furniture and amenities on what I think occupants might need, plus what they might want.
Ellen Frankel purchased this house in 1985
Why Ellen Frankel chose Robbins Rest
My home has a rare location with spectacular views of ocean, bay and wildlife sanctuary. Robbins Rest is a quiet, small community (36 houses) with a short walk to the nearest ferry, restaurants, groceries, etc. There is a good distance between our houses which offers privacy and peace.
What makes this house unique
Sunrises and settings convinced us to buy this house as we looked forward to using it for many generations. Now that it has been raised after 'Sandy' it has 'more than a million-dollar view!' fully renewed first floor where the bedrooms are. Every bedroom has sliding patio doors and opens to a deck or porch.
