I spent eight weeks at this property as a post-retirement treat, and not only did I not run out of things to do, I still have a list of reasons to go back again.
The let is the upper floor in the home of Idoia, Donal (who is Irish) and their school age children. The family are charming and were unfailingly hospitable, suggesting options for sightseeing, shopping etc., and happy to help when anything went wrong (e.g. arranging treatment when I put my back out).
The apartment is simply but comfortably furnished and decorated but had everything I needed even for a longer-than-average stay, and a daily delivery of fresh bread and milk for breakfast was included in the rental.
Bera isn't touristy - it is an authentic Basque village that values its history and traditions (I managed to catch both the village fiesta in early August and events at the Puente San Miguel, aka "Cadoux's Bridge", at the end of the month) - but there was walking (and would be cycling) from the front the door, as well as a wider choice within a short drive. It also offers easy access to a range of beaches within 15-30 minutes drive - everything from family-friendly sands (at least one having a disabled access area) and rocky coves to well rated surfing zones, and those in resorts have lovely promenades, some with beachside cafes, etc.
If the beaches are too far or too full, in summer Bera has open-air pools within walking distance of the let, while there are 'wild swimming' options in lakes and smaller rivers in the area (I wouldn't risk it in the Bidasoa!). At the same time it is around an hour's drive from cities such as San Sebastian, Pamplona and Bayonne, or an hour and a half from Bilbao, for anyone who needs a regular urban fix.
I went mainly for the history - for a few months in 1813, Bera was close to the centre of European events as the Duke of Wellington and the Allied Army prepared to chase Napoleon's Marshal Soult and his troops back into France. The Anglo-Portuguese Light Division was quartered at Bera during July - October 1813 (the let is on the 52nd's camp ground), so to be on the spot for some of the bicentenary dates was an ambition realised for me. For anyone with an interest in the period but with family or friends looking for a more traditional beach/walking/cycling holiday, this let would be ideal.

If you are a family and I love the north, hiking, the beach and eating right, this is your place. We have great views of Mount Larun Peñas and Hague.
