Chappaquiddick House Rental Photos and Description

Location... Location... Location!!! This is a privately owned and managed, destinctive- spotless contemporary home. The home is a reverse design which is popular for waterview homes on Martha's Vineyard. The bedrooms are on the first floor and the main living area (for maximum views) -kitchen, living room, dining room and den, are on the second floor. Located on the tip of Chappaquiddick Island our ' Bayview' faces both the Atlantic Ocean and Katama Bay separating Martha's Vineyard and Chappaquiddick Island. Ocean views and wonderful Bay views are our uniquically beautiful offering. We abutt much water! We also are steps from the natural, Wasque Conservation center.

Our non-Smoking home has a cathedral ceiling, glassed in 25'X30' living room, totally equipped gourmet kitchen, sky light open dining area with a slider to the private cable system, 2nd floor deck providing occupants with large glass table, chairs and lounges. The home has two and a half baths, an outside enclosed hot and cold shower, and sleeps eight. Every possible amenity is at the home. Truly unusual in comfort and generosity. Short walk to the wonderful nearby bay and ocean beaches and a short ride to other quiet Chappy beaches.

We have an exciting new 'view proof' deck on the second floor which is larger than our old deck and offers totally unobstructed and fabulous views. At sunset we see the sun fall over the water. This home is a View-person's paradise.

There are 3 bedrooms--the master bedroom is 32 feet long and has a sitting area and private T.V. and queen size bed with master bath with both shower and jetted tub. Another bedroom also has a queen size bed. The third bedroom has 2 lovely twin beds and T.V.for DVD's. Upstairs in the sun-room there is a quality queen size sofa bed and the third T.V. We also have high speed wireless internet service.

You will not find a better home. It is in a beautiful private location yet not far from beaches or town (Edgartown). For fishermen- and gals, we are near good surf fishing at Wasque reservation. Fishing rods can be rented in Edgartown. For those interested in clamming, we have rakes and can guide you to our favorite clamming spots right near our home on the tip of Katama Bay. Wasque conservation area also has canoe and kayak rentals plus 'over the sand' tours of this island.

**Choice Auto Ferry tickets are be offered to in-season renters at prime travel times (late June to the end of August).

*Call or e-mail for more information and personal considerations and requests. We try to work closely with our renters to insure a happy vacation experience.

About Cynthia or Tom Lally

We designed and built this wonderful home. It is our dream home. Tom, my husband, owned an insurance agency. I, Cynthia, taught high school and college mathematics in the Hartford, Connecticut area. We have 2 grown sons with their own special families and 5 grand children (4 girls and 1 boy). We personally manage this home and take pride in it. We do all our own renting, speaking with potential renters and getting to know their special needs and concerns. Each year new, exciting improvements are added to make our home a wonderful place to share with our great renters.

Cynthia or Tom Lally purchased this house in 1995

Why Cynthia or Tom Lally chose Chappaquiddick

We wanted something 'very special' and this home is 'very special'. The location is so fabulous! We watch sunsets each evening from either our great cable system deck or while eating dinner in our dining room. The setting is amazing! We border Katama Bay at it's tip and is parallel to the south beach of the Atlantic Ocean. It is just a short walk to the water. Plus being on Chappaquiddick Island is like being in one of the world's most beautiful islands.

What makes this house unique

This home offers total privacy, peace and quiet escape. You will not find a more wonderful place to relax and enjoy Views... Views and more Views. * Read our past renters' reviews and then decide if this home offers everything you want for your lovely vacation.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We appreciate the kind words of our guest. They rented for the first week in July as a family vacation. We are so lucky to share our home with such wonderful people. The new deck was a huge hit since it provides an unobstructive water view, complete privacy and total peace. Sitting on the deck at sunset is a treat. The best part of the vacation is the beauty that Chappaquiddick Island offers all those who are fortunate enough to spend time there.

Unbeatable view!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed in this wonderful home in August 2012. Cynthia was kind enough to arrange for our ferry tickets in advance, which saved us much worry. We had visited Chappy last year during our trip to MV, and decide that we would try a week there. We were definitely off the beaten path with this house, and were admittedly a little nervous when the pavement ended and we had to drive on a dirt road. We were so pleased when we saw the house! It is very spacious and the view is spectacular- just like the pictures! The deck was beautiful! Everything was perfect and clean. The owner, Cynthia, helped us figure out an issue we had with the DirecTV immediately. The beach is just a short walk or even shorter bike ride from the house. Wasque Beach (closed when we were there due to erosion) and East Beach are also just a bike ride (or short car ride) away. We loved the remoteness of the home, yet the proximity to Edgartown provided us with everything we needed. We also took advantage of the offerings at the Chappaquiddick Community Center- my husband and I took a yoga class, and my kids took sailing and tennis lessons. I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for a great place on MV.

A sparkling tapestry of sunlight

  • 5 of 5

I find that experiences often become distilled in memory into the most striking vignettes. Here are mine for our wonderful trip to this home in August of 2014: Our family getting together for a meal together in the upstairs dining room against the backdrop of early evening sunshine, grilling hotdogs and hamburgers together on the grill downstairs, getting up early for a sunrise over the eastern side of Chappaquiddick, hiking around Wasque point on a beautiful day, going on the trustees of the reservation tour which leaves from the Japanese garden out to Cape Poge lighthouse (learning along the way about local plant life and the migration of local birds), the multitude of windows providing great light into the upstairs living room, taking in the sparkling tapestry of sunlight which reflects off of Katama Bay, creating a spectacular view from the upstairs deck of this house.

Chappaquiddick is a special place and this is a special house. It features a really privileged location near Wasque point. You are walking distance to Katama Bay and Wasque point. True, it is a bit of a hike into Edgartown and the Ferry fee provides a slight disincentive to making the trip into town. You have to come supplied with everything you will need by way of groceries. But it is worth it because this home offers you a quiet, nature-infused experience that I do not believe you can have in many other rental offerings.

We got very lucky with the weather while we were there (it was warm and sunny every day). That was a lucky thing. But within the realm of reliable, positive, constants for your upcoming vacation, this home will provide one.

This was the first time that we stayed on Chappaquiddick. On our last trip we stayed at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown. That was a great experience and a very different type of experience (pool, bar, hotel amenities, proximity to restaurants). If you enjoy taking hikes, getting up early, quiet walks to the ocean, you will love this special offering.

Love this house!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just returned from a delightful week on Chappaquiddick, having spent it at a home we have rented several times in the past but have been unable to visit for several years (we are now empty nesters!). This house is a perfect get-away: it is very comfortable, well-equipped and well-maintained, with views that are lovely, spectacular sunsets from the deck, and an easy walk to Katama Bay. The island is quiet with lots of beach and woods for walks, and a very short ferry ride, by car to explore Martha's Vineyard, or as walk-on passengers if you just want a nice dinner and some fun shopping in lovely Edgartown. You can tell the owners love their home, and we are grateful that they rent this beautiful place, allowing us to create terrific memories of our vacation.

Chappy vacation

  • 4 of 5

We loved staying on Chappy. This house was clean, open and bright. This was our first time staying here. Last yr we stayed in Aquinnah. We bought the pass for our car so we were able to drive on the beach (you need to have 4wheel drive). The beach is 4-5 miles long on the ocean side and bay side. It is very desolate and just what we were looking for. I loved having Edgartown close by, the ferry is easy to use. We went out in town 3 nights for dinner and icecream. The other nights we cooked in. The kitchen is fully fictional and has everything you need. My only complaint about the house is that we showed up to no paper towels, hand soap, dish detergent or laundry detergent. We were able to buy these things in edgartown the next day but it is kind of a pain to bring your car across the ferry, much easier to park and walk on the ferry.

Fantastic welcome to summer

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cottage with our two grown daughters and their boyfriends during the third week in June. The house was a wonderful surprise, beautifully appointed and well maintained, with plenty of room to maintain everyone's privacy. The views from the living room and the deck are amazing any time of day. The island itself has wonderful empty beaches and all of Martha's Vineyard is a short ride and very short ferry ride away. Everyone we met on Chappy and the ferry was so friendly. We would definitely go back and recommend this cottage without any reservations. The owners are engaged and very helpful. We even used their clam permit to go clamming. The younger guests had so much to do that one week was not enough, and we felt so much at home that we could have stayed forever.

Great Chappy Experience

  • 5 of 5

My family has been coming to Chappaquiddick annually since 1990. We have rented several houses near the Wasque Reservation, but none better than this house. When you first walk in the house the feeling of the house is one of openness and light. All of the bedrooms are on the ground floor (where you enter the house), including a large master bedroom which, through a window at one end, gives you a hint of the great views that you get from the second floor. When you go up the stairs to the large open concept living space you are struck by the tremendous view of the salt marsh below, and then Katama Bay and the ocean and Martha’s Vineyard beyond. This spacious open living area is filled with light coming in through the large windows which line two sides of the house. If you want to get an even better view (and some sun), then you can step outside and relax on the large deck. My family likes to watch birds—this is a perfect spot to do so. We get to see ocean birds, shore birds and forest birds, all in one setting. We also are within walking distance of Wasque Reservation and the beaches of Katama Bay. We also go kayaking and windsurfing on Katama Bay. In short, this place can’t be beat. We can’t wait to go back!
