HISTORIC HOME IN THE HEART OF DOWNTOWN BEAUFORT'S 'OLD POINT'

Beaufort House Rental Photos and Description

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 3 Baths, (Sleeps 11-12)

4 bedroom historic home in the heart of Downtown Beaufort.

This 4 bedroom, 3 bath historic home sits in the heart of Downtown Beaufort's prestigious 'Old Point'. Built in the late 1800's, this house is part of Beaufort's history, as it was once the Beaufort Aquarium. Unlike any other vacation homes in the area, our home is only 3 short blocks from the bay, as well as shopping, art galleries, restaurants and attractions of downtown. If you stay at 608 North Street, you will be in the perfect location to experience the best of Beaufort.

The home has been completely restored with a fully equipped kitchen, limestone tile, heart pine floors, new stainless steel appliances, and impressive antiques from Bali and Indonesia. The large master suite features a king bed, private bathroom with whirlpool tub, and a private sitting area. Two additional bedrooms have queen beds, and one bedroom has a pair of twin beds, and one double bed. Wireless internet and cable TV are included.

Three large porches provide great spots to admire the beautiful low country scenery and watch the horse drawn carriage rides pass. A short walk is Beaufort's newly renovated Waterfront Park which provides the perfect location for an afternoon of boat watching, fishing, and breathtaking sunsets.

For parents of Parris Island graduates, this house will provide a wonderful place for you and your family to relax and unwind before and after graduation. Located approximately 10 minutes from the Parris Island Gateway, our home offers a luxurious and spacious setting that is ideal for families of graduating Marines.

Hunting Island State Park, close by beaches and public boat ramps are all easily accessible, and Charleston, Hilton Head, or Savannah are close enough for day trips.

Staying at 608 North Street will truly be an experience that cannot be matched by a hotel, condo, or any other rental home. We appreciate your interest, and please email or call for more information!

Hello! We are a couple from nearby Columbia, South Carolina who fell in love with the Beaufort area a long time ago. We were lucky enough to come across this beautiful home in Downtown Beaufort in need of renovation! It took longer that we had anticipated to restore, but was well worth the effort. This is truly a one of a kind property that we love to share with other families!

Elizabeth Christmus purchased this house in 2003

Beaufort, SC has always been a place my husband and I would visit with our family. Our parents took us here when we were children, and we brought our children to Beaufort when they were young. We don't care for the 'touristy' locations that are so crowded in SC, and we love the beauty, history, beaches, etc. in Beaufort.

We chose to purchase this particular home because we love to restore historic homes, and this home we could not pass up! This home was built around the turn of the 20th century, once the old North Street Aquarium years ago. It was so beautiful and in a great location being within walking distance of the water, shops, etc.

We had to replace porches, walls, ceilings ..... this was quite the renovation project, but with a lot of work and time we were able to renovate the home to the beautiful state it is in now. This home is truly one of a kind and a part of Beaufort's history, and we are glad that we can share this with you!

Staying in our home, you will have a vacation experience like none other in Beaufort. Our home is different than any other home in the area and a part of what makes historic Beaufort special.

Our home has three porches where you can relax, enjoy the breeze, read a book, or watch the carriage tours pass by.

Our home is within walking distance of everything downtown. Our family loves to take walks around dusk and watch the sunset over the water. You can have morning coffee at one of the cafe's on the street as you walk to waterfront park. You can shop, eat at the restaurants, tour historic Beaufort... all without having to drive anywhere. This house is one that you will find truly special!

Great location for family reunion

  • 5 of 5
It had been 12 years since my brother, sister, and I had been together; the last time being at our mother's funeral. It was long past time for us to get together so on June 20th of this year the three of us with our spouses spent a week in Beaufort, SC in this historic home. This home was perfect for us. Location is fabulous, easy to walk to restaurants, shops, and several tours of the area. Private parking right across the street made it easy to get to our cars so we could head to the beach, museums, and remote restaurants.

House was very well kept and maintained; even had modern technology (WiFi, TV, kitchen appliances, etc. yet still had a historic touch to it. As we were driving to Beaufort we received a call from the owners advising that the house had been cleaned and we could arrive a little early if desired; and we did just that!

I would say the listing description and photos were accurate, yet we found the place to be even nicer. When I made a reservation I was contacted by email and phone by the owners who made me feel very comfortable about choosing this location. As the date of our arrival got closer they maintained contact with us to be sure we didn't need anything more, and they even contacted us after we checked in to make sure we were satisfied.

Beaufort and the surrounding area is fabulous, strongly recommend you consider it for a vacation. The area has a fabulous history to it, a history to be proud of. The beach is a 15 minute drive away as are some great restaurants. We enjoyed the Dockside Restaurant so much we had dinner there 3 nights. Also enjoyed several in downtown Beaufort; one night had take out from Q on the Bay and another we grilled steaks on the grill outside. And the carriage ride through the city is well worth the cost.

My siblings had to leave a couple of days earlier than we did. As my wife and I left the house we both hated to leave. This is our second year in a row to vacation in the Beaufort area, would love to come back next year, and rent this house again.

A Family Tradition

  • 5 of 5
We've made staying at this lovely property a bit of a family tradition. My Son-in-Law's family stayed there for his wedding to my step-daughter in 2009, later that year my family stayed there for my wedding, and we recently stayed again for my second step-daughter's wedding.

I can't recommend this place highly enough. The owners are wonderful to work with - for our last trip they were incredibly flexible when we had to change our dates at the last minute. The location is fantastic, with shopping, dining, and the waterfront park all within a short walk. The house is roomy and comfortable. You have places to gather together or the upstairs veranda is perfect for slipping away to read or take a nap.

The listing and photos for this property are very representative, but don't really do the house justice. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stays and would definitely recommend this property to anyone planning a trip to Beaufort.

Marine Graduation

  • 5 of 5
We traveled to South Carolina to attend our grandson's graduation from Marine bootcamp. We stayed in this lovely home and it more than exceeded our expectations. The property was very clean and well-maintained. It was a treat to explore the house and just when we thought we had seen everything --- we came across another room or veranda! Truly suited the needs of our family!

The backyard is beautifully landscaped and a perfect spot to relax or grill out. Some of the days at the Camp are long and pretty emotional. Always nice to come back "home" and relax.

The house is an easy drive away from the Camp which was awesome. Tip to other graduation attendees --- get there early -- like 3 hours early to get the best seat, etc.

The Christmus family were extremely gracious and kind hosts. They went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our stay. They even retrieved and mailed a coat that we had forgotten!

We would highly recommend this house and hope to one day visit again. This was the perfect spot for our special Marine to relax and unwind after 2 days of activities and being on parade.

Thanks again for everything to the Christmus family!

Absolutely Wonderful!!

  • 5 of 5
Wow, what a home! The pictures are beautiful, but they just don't do it justice. We came down for a quick getaway, and are so happy we chose this wonderful house. The owners did a great job of renovating this property, and it shows. The location is spectacular, too. We were able to walk to the downtown restaurants and shops, and take in the beautiful views of the waterfront. We were debating on whether to rent a home vs. staying in hotel, and in the end, the historic charm of this house won out. I highly recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in a one of a kind property in an unbeatable location.

Renters beware

  • 1 of 5
Three ladyfriends rented this home for 4 days in September. We arrived 2 hours later than check-in time to find two men folding towels and linens. The interior of the home was very dark with all of the blinds and drapes drawn. We had to put our own sheets on the bed and had to search through many messy cabinets to find some pillowcases--nothing matched. We were unable to open windows or doors to enjoy the fresh air since there were no screens anywhere. The outdoor furniture was very musty smelling and the tables hadn't been cleaned which made it unpleasant to sit on the porches. Needless to say, we were very disappointed and felt that the present condition did not match either the pictures or the description of the home. After returning home, all 3 of us had bites on our ankles and feet that looked and felt like flea bites.

Owner's Response: We're very sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us. We do our very best to ensure that there are matching sheets for every available bed, but sometimes they get mixed up, so we apologize if that was the case. Our housekeeper accidentally left a load of sheets in the dryer, and she sent her sons back over to fold those, so that's the young men that were there when you arrived.

Regarding the lighting of the home, we ask that people shut the blinds to aid in keeping the house cool, so that's why the blinds were closed and the curtains were drawn. As for the lack of screens on the doors and/or windows, we do not advertise that we have that on any of our doors or windows. Being a historic home, we have to adhere to certain rules about what we can and cannot put on our windows and doors.

Lastly, the bites that you and your friends experienced were most likely mosquitoes, which are very prevalent in the Lowcountry of South Carolina during the later part of the summer. If they had been flea bites, we would be getting regular complaints from each and every one of our guests. We have never had another guest to complain of flea bites.

Once again, we apologize that you and your friends had an unpleasant experience at our home. We always encourage guests to call us immediately upon arrival if there is anything out of order or not to their liking. We cannot do anything about problems that are not brought to our attention until mid-way through, or the end of a trip. We have put a great deal of time and energy into restoring this beautiful home, and we have had hundreds of satisfied guests.
