Come relax on the deck, or my favorite spot, inside with my feet up on the window sill. Watch the sun come up. Then it's lobster boats, kayaks, canoes and sail boats. Bald eagles, ospreys, ducks, loons and gulls fishing. If you are alert you will see red squirrels, crows, deer and perhaps a fox or a seal. You can watch the tides change. Go down on the shore and look for crabs or beach glass. Take a walk or lie in the hammock. You can watch the islands turn red as the sun sets behind the cottage and then you can watch the moon come up and the stars come out. If you can't sit still that long there is so much to do in and around Owls Head. There is a beautiful light house. Stop at the Owls Head General Store for lunch or take it with you for a picnic. Go to the Transportation Museum for the special events or just the regular displays. Shop and eat out in Rockland, Camden, Thomaston or Port Clyde. Go to the Farnsworth Museum or any of the art galeries. This is a great spot for a vacation.

The mid-coast area offers all one could want. There is shopping in Rockland and picturesque Camden. Fine dining is available in both towns. The Farnsworth Art Museum and the Wyeth Center are in Rockland as is the Lighthouse Museum. the Owls Head Transportation Museum has special events most weekends in the summer and fall. There are several local fairs and the Lobster Festival. Rockland also hosts a Blues Festival, Windjammer and other types of day sails. The ferry to Monhegan is just a short drive away. There are several fine hiking trails nearby and more only a short drive away.

  • There is plenty of shelf space and lots of towels and nice sheets. All linens are changed after every guest leaves, including mattress pads, comforter covers and pillow covers. There a plenty of towels and the shower curtain liner is changed between guests.

Notes: The larger of the 2 bedrooms has a queen bed and a walk-in closet, the smaller bedroom has 2 twin beds. There is a large deck with a table and chairs for eating plus other chairs for enjoying the view. There are many nearby attractions so a lot of driving is not necessary. It's also a wonderful place to stay put in case what you really want is a peaceful, quiet time to relax and skip all the running around that we all have to do on a daily basis. The kitchen is well equipped with utensils, dishes, glasses, pots, [ans etc.

The view of Penobscot Bay is gorgeous and the cottage immaculate, comfortable and completely equipped. During 1 week stay in 8/09 we had every weather but snow and were perfectly comfortable. Sea breezes on the deck countered the humid 80s and a cozy fire (lots of wood provided) took away the chill of rainy 50s. (There's also heat but we were enjoying roughing it). Easy driving distance to all mid coast has to offer esp. Camden, Rockland and Rockport museums, galleries, seafood and sailing. Lots of very bikable roads. Evelyn is a perfect host. We hope to go back. Highly recommended!!
