South Londonderry House Rental Photos and Description

- 4 comfortable bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, sleeps 8

'Hidden Meadow' is a peaceful and private location on 11 acres along the West River in South Londonderry. If you like total privacy, this is the place for you! You cannot see another house from this location and you have your own private sunny meadow and woods to explore! Our house is on a quiet country road that connects to the West River Trail, a lovely path along the river that's great for biking and hiking. The home is immaculate, comfortable, cozy and equipped with every amenity. It's beautifully furnished and maintained. You'll enjoy the warmth of the Heathstone gas stove in the living room on chilly nights, and best of all, no lugging in the wood, just flip the switch! Enjoy Magic Mountain views from the dining and living rooms. The sun room is bright for reading or enjoying a meal overlooking the meadow and woods. We accept PayPal.

The home is sited with plenty of room for the kids and/or pets to play in the sunny meadow. The woods surrounding the property are fun to explore and will let their imaginations run wild. Hike or bike, or ski cross country from the house along the level West River Trail for about 2 miles beside the lovely West River. Drive to Weston to visit the Vermont Country Store or enjoy a play. . Enjoy the comfort of a fully equipped home that has just been remodeled and updated for your enjoyment. Shop, shop, shop in Manchester...only 20 minutes away! Okemo is just about 30 minutes North on Route 100.

July 3 through August 11, 2014, is the Vermont Summer Festival Horse show held at the Harold Beebe Farm in East Dorset. If you are a participant or spectator, we welcome you to stay in our home in 2014.

If you're lucky enough to be in Vermont in late July or mid-August, you're in for a treat! The Perseid Meteor Shower is always spectacular on a clear night.

South Londonderry is a great little village to spend the seasons. Although the home is situated on a quiet country road, it is town maintained all year. The supermarket is only 3 miles away as are numerous excellent restaurants. Cross country ski the West River Trail which can be accessed just a short walk from the house. Stratton, Bromley and Magic are all just a short drive away.

Don't miss some special events this summer and fall....

The Bondville Fair, at the end of August, features agricultural displays and contests, quilt show and contest, crafts, rides and games, music, bingo, truck, ox and horse pulling, antique tractors, clog and line dancing.

The 31st Annual Peru Fair, held the fourth Saturday in September, is rated by the state's Chamber of Commerce as among Vermont's Top 10 events. The homespun Peru Fair steps off with a 9:45 a.m. parade, followed by a pig roast, live music, dancing, hay rides and other entertainment. Dozens of local artisans and food vendors.

Our home is located on a quiet country road off Route 100, which 'has been called the most scenic in New England' by Yankee magazine writer Michael Blanding. 'In some circles, it's known as the 'Skier's Highway,' since it connects Vermont's giants - Mount Snow, Killington, Sugarbush, and Stowe - like knots on a whip.' Let's not forget Stratton, which is only 15 minutes from our door!

'But this road really comes into its own in autumn, hitting the peak of fall foliage not once but many times as it traces and up and down course along the unspoiled edge of Green Mountain State Forest.'

Guestbook comments from the owner
It's refreshing to find a home like yours that is so well taken care of and so very clean and inviting! It started our week off on a high note that only got better. We brought our two young grandchildren up to Vermont from South Jersey, which was very hot. It was lovely to be here in the mountains. The home is in such a perfect spot and your description of it was so true to your listing, so nice to have our own little private piece of Vermont for a little while...

It was nice to find such a well equipped kitchen and a great variety of books and games. Something we were particularly impressed with was the comfort of the beds!

We took hikes and bike rides on the trail at the end of your road...it must be even more beautiful in the fall when the leaves are changing. We took your suggestions for some of the local lakes and the children had a wonderful time in the water and so did we!

We appreciated your kindness in answering all of our questions before we arrived - we can tell you really did want us to enjoy every moment here.

It was nice to just sit on the deck and listen to the river down below in the late afternoon. The stars here are amazing at night and we brought the children out so they could see them too!

We even took them blueberry picking and made a homemade pie, and enjoyed blueberry pancakes. Thank you! We do that at home, too, but this pie tasted extra good!

Thank you for sharing your home. We're sorry we had to leave, but we'll definitely be back!

BEAUTIFUL HOME AWAY FROM HONE

  • 5 of 5
First we would like to thank the owners for the warm welcome when we arrived and found pancake mix and Vermont maple syrup on the kitchen table awaiting us. When we decided to take this vacation, we wanted to do a bit of traveling thru Vermont to visit its' many beautiful sites that we had not seen before and revisit some of our regulars. We have been frequent travelers to Vermont for many years and find it is more cost-efficient to rent a home than stay in a motel if you plan on staying 5 days or more.

This home is a beautiful, well-kept and well-organized home on a very private, yet accessible road in South Londonderry.

We were looking for a good location close to main roads and yet not far from a supermarket, stores, and restaurants. We were close to Rt. 100, Rt. 11 and very accessible to Rt. 7, Rt. 4, and other main roads (i.e. Rt. 89), taking you to all of your travel destinations.

We wanted to visit Weston-15 min., Manchester-20 min., Arlington-30 min., Ludlow-30 min, Woodstock-1 hr., Montpelier-2 hrs., Waterbury-2 1/4 hrs, Burlington-2 1/2 hrs., etc. We even traveled to visit our friends at the Monastery of New Skete in Cambridge, NY-1 hr., (not far from Arlington) with no travel problems due to our base in South Londonderry. This is a very convenient location to travel from.

Even if you got back late from your travels, there are two good places to eat within 10 minutes from the home (Jake's-good pizza and The New American Grill-also offering takeout) plus a supermarket in the same shopping center for picking up your last minute necessities. Travel Rt. 11 west and you will find a multitude of restaurants to enjoy. We celebtrated our 45th wedding anniversary at Johnny Seesaw's on Rt. 11 (great prime rib).

The house is a beautiful one level home. It is very clean and efficient. The basement has so many accomodations for children and adults, it is unbelievable (i.e. pool table, air hockey, basketball, ping pong table, tv with games, and a multitude of toys and games to keep the children occupied).

The property is a great place for pets and children to have fun and run and play outside. It is also a good place for seniors to rest, relax, and enjoy the beauty of the Vermont countryside.

We definitely plan on returning to this beautiful home-away-from home in the near future. Thanks so much for sharing your home with us.

Owner's Response: Joyce, we thank you so much for your kind comments about our home and appreciate that you and John chose our home for your visit to Vermont to celebrate your 45th anniversary! Johnny Seesaw's is a favorite restaurant of ours as well and we've also celebrated anniversaries there. We agree that their restaurant offers the best prime rib! We look forward to the opportunity of welcoming you back in the future.
Thank you.

FIRST WEEK OF AUG 2009

  • 5 of 5
My husband and I are both from New England, and neither of us had spent much time in Vermont.
The house is beautiful with the morning sun pouring in all the living room and dining room windows. Our little dog loved the house and checking out the lawn.
It was so great to open the front door and listen to the river through the screen door.
Beautiful house, we would recommend it to anyone.

We are a family of 7 with 5 kids between the ages of 8 and 13. This house was just perfect for us!!! I can't say enough how much we loved staying here during our winter ski season. We skied Stratton, Bromley and Okemo, they are all just around the corner and very convenient. An added bonus is the hospitality of the owners; they are just great people who are honest and attentive to your needs. I would highly recommend staying at this lovely home.

The home is equipped year round with Verizon wireless DSL broadband for quick and easy internet access. It is roughly 1500 square feet of living space, & economical to heat. We recently replaced the exterior siding with natural cedar shingles and have replaced all the windows with high efficiency argon-filled themopane windows. We also updated the home's decor. You'll find pocket doors and freshly painted walls; everything has been redone to make your visit enjoyable. A completely renovated second bath with double shower completes the bath remodel. A Hearthstone gas stove in living room makes a cozy living area. Ping pong; billiard table; darts; board games. Lots of kids' games and toys! Arcade style ball toss game in basement. Effective in 2008, all Vermont rental properties must be inspected and certified by the Vermont Division of Fire and Public Safety. Our home has been inspected and is in full compliance with state regulations.
