Photos and Description of the Wilmington vacation house rental
2/1.5 inside plus pullout and 2 screened summer bedrooms, sleeps 12

More details and 200 more pictures at the website that we built just for our house - they won't let us post the website here, but it's below in the notes to the rates.

Nestled among trees on 7 hilly wooded acres with 500 ft of shoreline, two waterfalls and two brooks, our house insulates you from the outside world with a 1000-foot driveway, but it's only 8 miles to Mount Snow. It's a summer paradise: pebbled beach, large dock, picnic areas, 2-level sleeping porch with deck, 2 campfire areas, gas grill, wood grill, house deck, and 5 boats. Half a mile to large public sand beach. Also a great winter hideaway! Fireplace, new deck in 2010, 6-burner dinner grill on one deck, two burner lunch grill on another, two campfire areas, boot room, full basement for storage, firewood, dishwasher, washer and dryer, linens provided.

Updates in 2011: Blu-Ray Player, HD Satellite with DVR, dishwasher, DSL, Ethernet, and WiFi, washer, Internet/iPhone Thermostats to remotely control heater, new hair dryers in both bathrooms, space heater in bathroom.

New update for 2012: 47' LCD TV

Why This House?: There are several rentals among the 40 houses on and near the lake. Apart from the number of bedrooms, how to choose? Here are some questions to ask:

- How far is the house from the road? (Our driveway is 1000 feet long, safer for kids)

- Do I need to cross a road to get to the lake? (No)

- If the house isn't really on the lake, do I have a private dock, or do I share the dock with other houses? (Two private docks)

- How close will I be to the lake? (The house is about 30 feet from the lake)

- Can I see the lake from the house? (Absolutely)

The House: Nestled among trees, overlooking the lake, our cozy home has 2 bdrms/1.5 baths, sleeps 8 with pullout couch, 6 otherwise. There are also six beds in the summer porch - great for kids, & four beds in the unfinished basement, which are great if it's a warm evening. The house has oil heat, fireplace in main room, front and rear decks, phone, large TV, VCR, DVD, tape player & stereo. Wood is provided. The well-equipped kitchen has a refrigerator, dishwasher, Keurig k-cup coffee maker, microwave, dishes, pots and pans, KitchenAid professional 600 series six-quart stand mixer, new 2011 washing machine, DSL, Ethernet, and WiFi.

Five boats:

Fiberglass 14' canoe

13' 3-seat, 5-person aluminum v-hull fishing boat w/electric trolling motor & two batteries

2-person kayak (Perception Keowee III, very stable)

Kids' kayak (1-seat)

Sunfish

Not too big, not too small, Lake Raponda is the ideal size for safe family fun. Large enough for a good water-ski run, the lake has plenty of nooks and crannies to be explored in a kayak.

The Summer Porch: The screened porch is the perfect place to enjoy a sunny afternoon by the lake. Well, the hammock is pretty nice too, but the porch holds more people. 1000 square feet on two floors, the porch has a 16x24 screened room downstairs, a 16x16 enclosed room upstairs, and two open spaces, one upstairs, one down. We've had dinners for two out there, and dinners for 27. About 10 feet from the lake, and near one dock and the beach, the porch accommodates books, games, napping, over-nighting, and general family togetherness. Have a look at the pictures and see if you can picture yourself there.

More about the Lake:

It's large enough to sail on, but not so large that the waves ever get more than a few inches high on the windiest days. Raponda's resident association enforces decorum among boat owners, and the state has banned jet skis after repeated incidents of unsafe skiing.

About Andrew Adams

I live in Houston with my pet people. I don't know why they never take me to this other house I let them buy.

Why Andrew Adams chose Wilmington

My great-great uncle managed the hotel that used to be on this lake in the 1920's.

What makes this house unique

We think the lake is the perfect size, and we own one of the largest lots on the lake. I like the sense of space.

Wow! Big, easy, right on the lake

5 of 5
Submitted: June 10, 2008 Stayed: May 2008
Memorial Day turned out to be a little cool for swimming, but my family thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Took us an hour and 50 minutes from Lowell (Boston), going kinda fast because we were glad to get out of town. He's not kidding about the long driveway - seems like we drove through the woods quite a ways before you get to the house. We were so far from the road I felt comfortable just letting the kids run. We saw a buck in the driveway, so don't go too fast. But then we saw the house and the screened porch and the docks and the boats and we knew we'd chosen the right house. My kids were constantly torn between the boats and the woods, and they had a great time sleeping in the porch. The key was in a lockbox, so we just let ourselves in and made ourselves at home - no manager there to count the children and make sure we didn't bring too many. The kitchen was ready to go, as was the grill. We enjoyed five days of campfires, fishing, canoeing, walking in the woods, sitting and listening to the waterfalls, etc. etc. etc. The satellite TV did come in handy when it rained, and there were some family staple movies left to watch (Pirates, Indiana Jones, that sort of thing). Andrew & Tammy sent us a customized Google map showing the area attractions, the best restaurants (they have good taste and didn't break the bank), the two markets nearby, and such); we though they were very easy to deal with, and we just got our deposit back. We'll definitely be back next summer, but maybe a little later in the summer when the lake's warmer.

Owner's Response: We're glad Craig and family had a good time; they also emailed some great suggestions on a few things the house ought to have, and we've ordered them from Amazon in time for the next renter. June's long days warm the lake up, and Wilmington has a great 4th-of-July fireworks display.

Wonderful getaway

Submitted: August 14, 2012 Stayed: August 2012
My wife and I and our dog had a wonderful time in the cabin. The cabin is well equipped and comfortable. The descriptions are completely accurate. The owners were readily available and were committed to ensuring that we enjoyed our stay. The setting is beautiful and peaceful. The main deck of the house overlooks the lake; perfect for sitting and reading or just relaxing. We found several hikes in the nearby parks that were scenic but not strenuous.
The main house has two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the second with two bunk beds making it good for one couple or a family with children. There is another structure on the property with a screened in porch and additional sleeping accommodations, but no bathroom.
Overall a great place to spend a week relaxing.

Wonderful Week

Submitted: October 12, 2010 Stayed: September 2010
My wife and I spent a week at the cabin to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and to get some much needed R&R. We had wonderful weather, the cabin, the porches, the privacy, and atmosphere were all top notch. Such a wonderful location. We loved all the local towns nearby. We hiked in the state parks, and at the local ski areas, and enjoyed kayaking in the morning and in the evening.

Thank you for sharing your wonderful home with us. We hope to rent again next year

Lake Raponda Getaway

5 of 5
Submitted: September 19, 2010 Stayed: September 2010
Our family has vacationed at many places up and down the eastern half of the U.S.
We like to go to new places every year but this one makes our places to return list.
From the minute we pulled in it had a feeling of a home not just a place to base camp
so to speak.
You could easily spend your time at the home enjoying the lake, and the surroundings.
Or you can enjoy the charm of Vermont, there are many places all within a 30 min.drive.
The hiking, sightseeing, and shopping was a great experience.
We hope to return someday.

Owner's Response: And we'd be glad to have y'all back! Thanks very much. Any ideas you have to make the house better would be welcome also - the outdoor speakers and the k-cup machine were both suggestions from renters.

We have stayed at this house before, but the new deck nearly doubles the square footage and makes for a much nicer experience.
