Sandra and Peter Mollica are retired professionals from the Washington, DC area who enjoy the quality of life that Vermont has to offer. We love meeting people and making sure that they have a wonderful time.
Sandra Mollica purchased this cottage in 1978
We have a passion for restoring old buildings. The property has our own restored 1793 home as well as two charmingly restored vacation rental houses.
We bought the property as a second home but found that we loved Vermont so much both winter and summer that we retired here.
The charm of Springfield is that, while the village is not huge, it has every convenience and is not a tourist trap. You are just a few minutes from anything you might want or need. Springfield has its own hospital and Dartmouth-hitchcock Medical Center associated with the Dartmouth College Medical School is just 45 minutes away.
Our location on the river is beautiful in all seasons.
We like to ski different areas depending upon our mood, conditions of snow and the weather. This location is ideal for that.
There are many unique benefits that our guests love.
We have a petting zoo with ducks, chickens and cats. Young and old love this. We also have a large playground, bonfire area and fire pits for each house.
Some other benefits are as follows:
1 Peace and quiet are here but there is also so much to do that some guests never leave the property. It functions for them as a resort.
2. The beauty is incredible and the river, mountains, and surrounding historic villages are living postcards.
3. The two vacation houses plus Santa's House sleep a total of 23 persons. This makes it possible for large wedding groups, friends or family groups to stay on one property and have great times together. Catering is available.
Finally, we and our staff work hard to make sure that you have a good time. We are right here on site to help and advise you as well as to resolve any problems.
" I wanted to thank you for our evening in your home. We had so enjoyed our trip to the beautiful state of Vermont. Our last evening was so much nicer because of your hospitality. We both were thrilled to see your gorgeous home & listening to the history was an added treat. Desset was exceptional and my gift of VT cards was so thoughtful. I just want you to know we will always remember your little extras. We will see you again in a few years."
Our stay in the Christmas Cottage was wonderful. Our family included myself, my grown daughter, my 81 year old mom, and our dog. The cottage suited all of us beautifully. The foliage, views, and hospitality was spectacular. It was quiet, close enough to drive to other towns. Even a shopping trip for my daughter to Manchester outlets was only 45 minutes away. My mom enjoyed feeding the chickens. There were many craft fairs going on in neighboring towns that we visited. The Connecticut River Valley was just gorgeous. And Peter gave us a wonderful tour of his historic home. The house was lucky to get Peter and Sandra as homeowners, as they have restored it magnificently. I hate to tell too many people about this special place, because we surely want to return again soon. Maybe even venture up to pick out that special Christmas tree that my mom has her eye on!
We stayed in the christmass tree lodge this summer with our four young children. The hosts were extremely gracious and helpfull. The setting was idylic. My kids enjoyed the grounds, picking eggs from the barn and making fire pits in the evening. The cottage was spacious and well apportioned with three bedrooms and significant common area. There was a dock on a really pretty river and our hosts brought the boat down and out in the water for us. Also had kayaks and bikes available for our use which was great.
Only minor issue is the cottage was dusty which triggered my wife's allergies.
Best "girls weekend" yet! My very best girlfriends/longtime friends and I have been getting together every Memorial Day weekend for over twenty years. We try to choose a place that will accommodate 8+/- people, have at least 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. The Lodge provided us with all of that and more. It is spacious and quiet with spectacular views. The owners were wonderful and very gracious hosts offering helpful advice on places to visit, to eat, to shop and by suggesting fun/interesting activities. The ducks and chickens were entertaining to watch as we sipped coffee on the porch. The kayaking was great, as was sunning ourselves on the very private dock. The pool was inviting and the grounds well kept. This property is for everyone and I am already looking into a return visit with my family. Thank you for a pleasant stay.
My family and I spent a week at the Christmas Cottage and had a wonderful time. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The weather was beautiful! There was plenty of room for the 6 of us (4 adults, 2 children). The house was clean and had everything you would need. The location was ideal, on the beautiful Connecticut River, and the views of the Vermont countryside and rows of Christmas tress from the cottage was picture perfect. My daughter had the best time fishing with her granddad off their pier, and canoeing with dad on the river. The owners Sandra & Peter, were really great, making sure we had everything we needed. Thank you so much!
I took my wife, two small kids and mom here for the week and all of us, all ages, really found something to love. It's been newly redone and we were only the third guests to stay since the new addition was added on. It's a very relaxed, comfortable, open layout that suited us very well.
The kids loved chasing the chickens and getting up close to the alpacas and goats. We also went tubing, fishing and canoeing on the adjacent Connecticut River and had a blast. But for us the highlight was probably our son learning to ride a bike without training wheels. The street and property are so quiet and open he had plenty of room to practice his new skill, which he mastered on an old bike we found in the barn. The owner, Peter, who is the consummate gentlemen and very helpful with tips about activities, insisted we take the bike home with us as a remembrance of that moment.
Although the farm really feels "away from it all," there are a lot of fun things to do within an hour's drive from here. The kids loved the Montshire Museum of science, which is made for children and extremely well done. We also visited Hanover, home of Dartmouth, Woodstock, home of Billings Farm, and hiked down to Quichee Gorge which I'd highly recommend.
All in all, a great and unique experience. We wanted a relaxing week somewhere rustic, and we got it. You'll enjoy this place.
Hi, my name is Lacey I am 12 years old and I live in NJ. I enjoyed my stay at the cottage very much. The house was very cute, it has one full bed, a couch that has a pullout bed so two people can sleep. The cutest little kitchen, a nice size bathroom, and a flat screen TV. There is a little house next to the cottage that Peter built with a little porch. Inside there is a couch, TV, and a ladder to go up to the small loft where there are two twin beds. It would have been fun to stay in there. Also they have different kinds of animals that you can feed and pet, I really enjoyed that. I even got a chicken named after me, now how cool is that! The main owner’s house on the property was built in the late 1700’s and was owned by Lewis R, Morris that’s where Peter and Sandra live. They where nice enough to give me a tour and tell me about the history about the house. They where very nice, and helpful with information on things to do and places to visit. One of my favorite things was getting a great cup of hot coco, ask them about that. I really enjoyed my stay, and maybe we’ll get to come back. I hope the next tenants enjoy their stay also. :)
There are free tennis courts in the village and there is an excellent fitness center with indoor pools which offers daily rates A state fishing/boat landing is 2 miles south. There is a golf course in Springfield and about 6 other courses within 45 minutes which will welcome you.
